When do Ontario university residence applications open and close for Fall 2027?

A residence application asks for a place to live. It isn't the same form as your university application or your academic offer response. Some schools first ask you to register interest. Others need a questionnaire and payment together. Later, a room offer can require another reply. Write down the name of the task beside each date. That helps you tell a first-year guarantee deadline from a room-selection appointment or the last date to accept a contract.

The older calendars show why the opening month varies. uOttawa's 2026-27 calendar opened for newly admitted students in December 2025. TMU's Fall 2026 application opened in February 2026, while Queen's opened in March 2026. These are dated examples of the last published cycle. They aren't forecasts for Fall 2027. Don't wait for a shared Ontario opening announcement: use the university's own housing page and check which academic year the heading names.

A guarantee also has conditions. You may need an eligible admission offer, an accepted academic place and a complete housing application. Rotman's dated housing guidance requires the StarRez interest application by March 31, 2027 and accepted U of T admission by June 1, 2027. It also requires you to meet later deadlines and deposits. That is evidence for those 2027 milestones, not an exact date the form opens. Read the campus and college instructions that apply to your choice. The central first-year guarantee page still labels itself 2026-27 and says March 31 interest with June 2 acceptance. We show that older wording instead of silently treating it as Fall 2027. Rotman's June 1, 2027 statement is the explicitly dated new-cycle source here. Ask your own campus to resolve a mismatch in its personal instructions. An old central date doesn't justify ignoring a current date in your application or offer documents.

The central page also explains that you don't need an admission offer to register interest by its March deadline. Applying at that stage doesn't itself commit you to paying a housing deposit. This is the practical reason to read housing instructions while admission is pending. Waiting until every academic decision has arrived can leave an earlier interest step behind you. Treat that process as current published guidance, while checking the exact new-cycle terms for your campus before you act.

Queen's admitted-student calendar gives June 1, 2027 at 4 p.m. ET for the residence application and deposit. It says the deposit must be received by then. That wording matters if you're planning a payment that takes time to reach the university. Sending it isn't the same as receipt. The detailed first-year application page still says the Fall 2026 form opened March 5, 2026 at 2 p.m. ET. It also carries 2026 guarantee conditions. The same page has different May 30 and May 31, 2026 wording for some groups. These aren't published 2027 eligibility cutoffs. A confirmed 2027 application closing date doesn't establish that the old guarantee terms roll forward. Read your offer letter to learn whether your place is guaranteed, and recheck the new-cycle housing update.

Queen's also distinguishes applying for a room from later choosing it. Its older guide describes room selection and roommate steps after the application stage. Don't confuse an early housing application with a promise of a particular building or room. If an offer arrives later, the school's instructions may direct you to a lottery or waitlist. Waterloo's welcome page confirms June 8, 2027 at 11:55 p.m. for the housing form and deposit. It doesn't name a time zone. Its admissions timeline gives the same day. Campus Housing still lists a February 9, 2026 opening and June 8, 2026 close. That older page prints both 11:59 and 11:55 p.m. ET. Keep those 2026 details separate from the confirmed 2027 cutoff. Ask housing which zone applies before making your payment.

The Waterloo residence guide explains the participating housing communities. The older official process has a first application stage, followed by preferences and a later contract. A guaranteed space doesn't mean your first room choice is guaranteed. Leave time for those later replies after you've met the initial deadline. Use the Waterloo hub for academic planning, and treat the housing office as the owner of your room and contract questions.

Western's calendar has a distinct 2027-28 entry: June 3, 2027 for the first-year prepayment and Residence Placement Questionnaire. The checked calendar doesn't publish the new application opening day. It is therefore useful evidence for the closing task without a complete opening schedule. Read the Western residence guide and your personal instructions together. Don't assume an academic offer response automatically submits the questionnaire or makes the required housing payment.

McMaster's application page names June 2, 2027 at 4 p.m. ET for guaranteed students to complete the application and required payment. It says more 2027-28 details will be updated as confirmed. The page also warns that its residence admission average can change before the deadline. We don't convert a displayed average into a fixed Fall 2027 guarantee threshold. Check whether your offer includes the guarantee, then read the current instructions for maintaining it.

Missing the deadline can change your route. McMaster says guaranteed students who miss it forfeit the guarantee and can apply to the waitlist. Its description orders waitlist applications differently before and after the deadline. That is a reason to keep the housing task visible even while you're comparing academic choices. TMU's checked page has a February 2, 2026 opening and June 4, 2026 initial application deadline. Later applications remain possible but go lower on its priority list. The initial cutoff isn't a promise that every on-time applicant receives a room. Fall 2027 opening and initial deadline dates aren't published there yet. uOttawa's latest calendar is also 2026-27. It opened December 9, 2025 for newly admitted Fall 2026 students and listed June 1, 2026 for the Canadian housing guarantee. For all seven schools, save the housing submission confirmation and check later messages for a room offer or contract.
