Fall 2027 applicant update

University of Waterloo admission requirements for 2027

Ontario high school applicants generally need an Ontario Secondary School Diploma and six Grade 12 U/M courses, including every prerequisite for the chosen program. Waterloo calculates the admission average from the required courses plus the highest remaining eligible 4U/M grades needed to make six. College-level, open, and co-op courses are not included. Program ranges can change with the applicant pool and available space, and an individual selection program also reviews required supplementary material.

Engineering deadline

January 15, 2027

Engineering applications, excluding Architecture, are due on this date. The Engineering document deadline is February 1, 2027.

Most other programs

February 1, 2027

Waterloo lists this application deadline for most programs outside Engineering. Their general document deadline is February 15, 2027.

Decision timing

Most offers arrive in May

Decisions can be released from December through May. Waterloo says all remaining Ontario high school offers are sent by mid-May.

Waterloo prerequisites and current admission averages

Waterloo publishes program-specific prerequisites and ranges rather than one university-wide cut-off. The examples below were reviewed on July 29, 2026. Treat them as current planning evidence and recheck the exact program before applying because requirements and ranges can change during the 2027 cycle.

Does Waterloo require the AIF or another supplementary form?

Every applicant must complete the short Declaration of Academic Experience in Waterloo's applicant portal. The Admission Information Form and supplementary information form are required for Engineering programs other than Architecture and for Faculty of Mathematics programs. Computing and Financial Management also uses the required forms. Geography and Aviation and Science and Aviation require the AIF.

Most programs in Arts, Environment, Health, and Science do not use the AIF. Accounting and Financial Management, Sustainability and Financial Management, and Architecture also do not use it. Architecture instead has a separate selection process that can include a portfolio and interview. The personalized applicant checklist—not an older guide—is authoritative for the forms and documents attached to an individual application.

How to apply to the University of Waterloo

1.Choose the exact Waterloo program and confirm its Ontario prerequisites, current admission range, co-op option, and supplementary requirements.
2.Submit the undergraduate application through OUAC by January 15 for Engineering or February 1 for most other Fall 2027 programs.
3.Follow Waterloo's email instructions to create the applicant-portal account and complete the Declaration of Academic Experience.
4.Use the personalized checklist to submit transcripts, language results, the AIF, supplementary forms, interviews, or other documents by the applicable document deadline.
5.Monitor the applicant portal and official email through the admission rounds, then review every condition before accepting an offer through OUAC.

Does the University of Waterloo require SAT or ACT scores?

No. Waterloo's current American-system admission pages state that SAT and ACT scores are not required for undergraduate admission. That does not make the application test-free in every other sense: applicants still need an accredited U.S. high school diploma, the senior academic or AP prerequisites for their exact program, the required grades, and every document shown in the applicant portal.

Waterloo's current Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering U.S.-system pages all say these scores are not required for admission.

AP prerequisites still matter

Test-optional SAT and ACT treatment does not waive an AP subject requirement. Waterloo Computer Science currently requires AP Calculus with a minimum score of 4, plus Algebra, Grade 12 English, and its published overall Grade 12 minimum.

U.S.-system documents

Upload the high school transcript, available midterm grades, proof of next-term enrolment, and any AP results. Waterloo's College Board AP institution code is 0996.

Check the current Waterloo Computer Science U.S.-system requirements or search the official requirements tool for the program you actually plan to enter. Engineering, Mathematics, Arts, Health, Environment, Science, and Accounting programs do not share one prerequisite list.

When does Waterloo send admission offers?

Waterloo does not have a separate early-admission application. Decisions are made from December through May as grades and required materials arrive. A limited number of earlier offers can be issued, but Waterloo says most offers are made in May after Ontario schools report second-semester midterm grades. Its Fall 2027 timeline says all remaining offers will be sent by mid-May. Check the Waterloo applicant portal for the actual decision and conditions.

Repeated, online, night, and summer school courses

Waterloo accepts accredited day, summer, night, online, and private school courses. For most Arts, Engineering, Environment, Health, and Science programs and for Architecture, a repeated course is not penalized and Waterloo uses the highest grade. Faculty of Mathematics applicants should avoid repeating required Grade 12 courses because a repeat may reduce competitiveness.

An accredited online or night course taken through the regular school or board during the school year does not affect an application. Engineering and Mathematics applicants should avoid taking a required course outside the regular day school or school board when possible; Waterloo says the admission average may be adjusted to reflect earlier performance in that subject.
