University of Waterloo Campus Locations

The main campus at 200 University Avenue West is home to most Waterloo programs and facilities. Architecture is at 7 Melville Street South in Cambridge. The Stratford School is at 125 St. Patrick Street in Stratford, and Health Sciences is at 10 Victoria Street South in Kitchener.

These are separate sites in different cities. Waterloo lists Cambridge about 30 kilometres from main campus, Stratford about 45 kilometres west of it, and Health Sciences about 6 kilometres away. Those distances describe geography, not a dependable commute time. Traffic, transfers, weather, class hours, and the exact starting point can change the trip.

The main campus concentrates the university-wide experience that applicants may picture when they hear “Waterloo.” Dana Porter Library supports arts, humanities, and social sciences, while Davis Centre Library focuses on engineering, mathematics, and science. The Physical Activities Complex is in the campus core and Columbia Icefield is at the north end. Waterloo's Campus Housing residences and the four affiliated university-college residence communities are also in Waterloo.

That concentration is useful, but it does not move a specialist program's scheduled classes. An Architecture or upper-year GBDA student can use eligible university-wide services, yet the journey to a main-campus appointment, club, library, or recreation session still has to fit around studio and class commitments. Review a sample weekly schedule and the live maps rather than treating the university name as one physical destination.

Waterloo's Architecture degree page says the program is offered at the Cambridge School of Architecture. The site includes studios, labs, exhibition galleries, and the Musagetes Architecture Library. Musagetes is inside the school and holds architecture and design collections, so Cambridge students have a discipline-specific library rather than needing the main campus for every research task.

Housing deserves an early, Cambridge-specific search. Waterloo's prospective-student housing guide tells Architecture students to start looking for off-campus housing early, and the university's off-campus housing resource covers Cambridge. Do not assume that applying for Waterloo Campus Housing places you near Architecture classes: the university describes its residence system in Waterloo, while its off-campus service separately supports the satellite-campus cities.

GBDA is the clearest reason not to choose housing from the program name alone. Waterloo says first-year GBDA study is on the main campus. After first year, almost all courses take place at the Stratford School, 45 kilometres west of main campus. A first-year Waterloo lease therefore solves a different problem from upper-year Stratford housing.

The Stratford building provides GBDA-specific advising and production facilities, including a media library, recording studio, video-editing suites, and a user-experience observation room. Waterloo Libraries offers book delivery to Stratford. Campus Wellness counselling provides in-person and virtual sessions to registered students living in Ontario, and Stratford advising directs students to Campus Wellness for non-academic support. Confirm the delivery mode and appointment location when access depends on being physically present.

Grand River Transit serves Waterloo, Kitchener and Cambridge. Waterloo places the Cambridge school less than 500 metres from the Ainslie Street terminal, while Health Sciences is close to ION and bus routes. Stratford Transit serves trips within Stratford; its local network is separate from GRT.

For Stratford–Waterloo travel, check the Stratford School’s current term-pass bus and the City of Stratford’s PC Connect schedules. The Fall 2026 school bus runs weekdays for pass holders between Hagey Hall and Stratford’s Cooper Terminal. It does not run during reading weeks, exams, holidays or university closures. Confirm the pass conditions and current timetable before relying on it for a class or evening activity.

Waterloo's official off-campus housing information covers Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge, and Stratford and includes renter rights, finances, maintenance, and safety support. Search in the city where most classes take place, then test the actual trip at the weekday and hour you expect to travel. If your program changes location by year, compare a shorter lease, a later move, and the cost of repeated intercity trips before signing.

A main-campus tour will not show an Architecture studio or the Stratford production spaces. Waterloo publishes separate Stratford tour information, and Architecture has its own future-student information. Pharmacy tours are typically offered during Fall Open House and March Open House and generally cannot be arranged at other times because the building is heavily used.

On a visit, check the route from likely housing to the teaching entrance, the library or material-pickup point, food options during your class hours, and the trip to any main-campus activity you expect to use. The useful question is whether the location supports your program week, not which campus looks best in isolation.
