Overview

Entity answer

A primarily undergraduate university in North Bay, Ontario

Nipissing University combines small-campus undergraduate study with the Schulich School of Education, competitive Nursing and Physical and Health Education, Arts and Science, Business, Criminal Justice, Social Work, and collaborative pathways with Canadore College. Independent since its 1992 charter, its roots reach back to the North Bay Normal School.

Fall 2027 deadlines are published—residence and fee cycles are not

Nipissing's deadline calendar already lists Fall 2027 application dates, including the February 17, 2027 equal-consideration deadline for Nursing and other competitive programs. Residence guarantees, rates, and tuition are still published for 2026–27 only, so budget with labelled figures and re-verify each page as the next cycle posts.

Fall 2027

Fall 2027 cycle status

Confirmed

Nipissing has already published its Fall 2027 undergraduate deadlines: full-time September 2027 applications close April 1, 2027 with documents due April 9, 2027, and part-time applications close August 4, 2027. The deadlines page also states applications will continue to be accepted after the stated deadlines if room remains in the program, with late Fall-intake applications and documents accepted no later than July 31.

Unusually for the smaller-Ontario cluster, this is a published Fall 2027 calendar, not a recurring-pattern estimate. Competitive programs still close earlier—see the equal-consideration claim.

Programs and Pathways

Nipissing University programs and pathway decisions

Compare the actual credential and progression structure, not only the program label. Education is a dual-degree route with announced changes forthcoming, Social Work has a professional-years gate, and BBA co-op is an internal application rather than guaranteed direct entry from high school.

Schulich School of Education

Concurrent Education pairs an eligible honours BA, BSc, BBA, BFA, or BPHE with a BEd over six years, including approximately 85 practicum days—19 weeks of practicum—in the professional years. A Consecutive BEd with a May intake serves degree holders. Nipissing warns that changes to the Teacher Education program are forthcoming.

Nursing: BScN and RPN pathways

The four-year Honours BScN (Fall intake, CNO approved, CASN accredited) starts clinical placements in first year at the North Bay Regional Health Centre. RPNs can bridge through a three-year full-time program in North Bay or the RPN to BScN Blended distance option over three to five years.

Business Administration

The BBA offers concentrations chosen at the end of first year in Accounting, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Leadership, Finance, Human Resources, International Business, and Marketing, with an optional co-op application after first year and the iLEAD Business Experience Certificate.

Computer Science and Data Science

Students can pursue BA or BSc Computer Science routes, while Data Science combines calculus, advanced functions, science, computing, and analytics. Program-specific tuition differs from general Arts and Science.

Social Work, Criminal Justice, and collaborative pathways

Nipissing offers a BSW with a separate professional-years admission and a BA in Criminal Justice with four streams—Policing (a Canadore College collaboration awarding a diploma and degree in four years), Corrections with required field placements, Criminology, and Criminal Justice Studies.

Schulich School of Education: Concurrent BEd

The Concurrent Education route pairs a BEd with an honours BA, BSc, BBA, BFA, or BPHE over a six-year pathway—four years of undergraduate and foundational education study, then two professional years with approximately 85 practicum days (roughly 19 weeks) in schools. Divisions available are Primary/Junior, Junior/Intermediate, and Intermediate/Senior. The program is accredited by the Ontario College of Teachers.
