How Does the Ontario University Application Process Work?

OUAC collects the central biographical and academic information, program choices, payment, and offer responses for participating Ontario undergraduate programs. It then forwards the application data to the selected universities. The universities—not OUAC—evaluate applicants and make admission decisions.

A university acknowledgement email starts the second checklist. Use its applicant portal to confirm that the application was received and to find transcripts, language evidence, supplementary forms, portfolios, interviews, references, or other requirements. A paid OUAC application can still be incomplete at the university.

The Undergraduate application automatically assigns Group A or Group B based on the applicant information entered. Group A generally applies only when every current Ontario high-school criterion is met. Applicants from outside Ontario, international students, transfer students, mature applicants, and others who do not meet all Group A criteria are generally assigned Group B.

The distinction matters because deadlines, grade reporting, transcript requests, program availability, and supplemental fees can differ. Do not choose a legacy OUAC 101 or 105 form; those labels were replaced by Group A and Group B inside one smart application.

Start researching programs, prerequisites, campuses, costs, and competitive requirements before the application opens. Build a deadline list for the applicant group, university, program, documents, supplementary assessments, scholarships, and residence. The earliest applicable date should control the plan.
