How Does the Ontario University Application Process Work?

OUAC collects the central biographical and academic information, program choices, payment, and offer responses for participating Ontario undergraduate programs. It then forwards the application data to the selected universities. The universities—not OUAC—evaluate applicants and make admission decisions.

A university acknowledgement email starts the second checklist. Use its applicant portal to confirm the application was received. Use it to find transcripts and language evidence. Use it to find supplementary forms, portfolios, and interviews. Use it to find references or other requirements. A paid OUAC application can still be incomplete at the university.

The Undergraduate application automatically assigns Group A or Group B. It uses the applicant information entered. Group A generally applies only when every current Ontario high-school criterion is met. Applicants from outside Ontario are generally assigned Group B. So are international students, transfer students, and mature applicants. So are others who do not meet all Group A criteria.

This difference matters. Deadlines, grade reporting, transcript requests, program availability, and supplemental fees can differ. Do not choose a legacy OUAC 101 or 105 form. Those labels were replaced by Group A and Group B inside one smart application.

Start researching programs, prerequisites, campuses, costs, and competitive requirements before the application opens. Build a deadline list for the applicant group, university, program, documents, supplementary assessments, scholarships, and residence. The earliest applicable date should control the plan.

Ontario undergraduate applications usually become available in the fall. But exact dates change by cycle. You do not usually need to apply on opening day. If you submit well before the earliest deadline, you leave time for payment processing, corrections, portal activation, and missing-document checks.

Open status changes at the program level. So no reliable permanent list exists of whole universities still taking applications. One school may keep some programs open. But competitive, capacity-limited, portfolio, or interview programs may be closed.

Other applicants should check the live OUAC program search and contact the university. Verify the deadline and late-consideration policy before paying for an additional choice.

Read the offer deadline and every condition before you respond. Compare tuition, scholarships, residence, program progression, co-op, campus, and any required deposit. Accept the preferred offer through OUAC by the deadline shown in the offer. Accepting does not erase the conditions.

After accepting, keep using the university portal. Use it for final transcripts and study-permit or status documents. Use it for residence, deposits, and course registration. Use it for orientation and fee payment. The university's offer letter and portal remain the controlling sources.
