Programs and Pathways
Dalhousie programs, the Truro campus, and the King's question
Dalhousie publishes 13 faculties and 300+ programs across two teaching campuses that feel nothing alike: an urban Halifax footprint across Studley, Carleton, and Sexton, and an almost 1,000-acre working farm campus in Bible Hill near Truro. Several routes also carry a second selection point after admission, so an offer is not always an offer to the thing you actually want to study.
Engineering
Two years of the Core Engineering Program build a shared foundation in math, engineering, science, and design. At the end of first year students apply to one of seven disciplines: Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Environmental, Industrial, or Mechanical.
Selection: Discipline entry is a second selection point after admission, and third year is when students transition into the discipline and can add co-op. Two years can also be spent on the Truro Agricultural Campus.
Medical Sciences
Dalhousie describes Medical Sciences as the first of its kind in Atlantic Canada, spanning sciences, medicine, and arts and social sciences, with subjects such as human anatomy and physiology, neuroscience, epidemiology, and medical ethics.
Selection: The 80% published minimum is the highest direct-entry threshold on the requirements table. It is a bachelor's degree, not an admission to medical school.
Nursing
Semester 1 is direct entry from high school. Semester 3 advanced standing exists for applicants with post-secondary study, requiring a 2.5 GPA and core prerequisites in anatomy, physiology, statistics, microbiology, and English writing at a minimum grade of C.
Selection: Advanced-standing prerequisites cannot be more than 10 years old, electives not more than 15, and all newly admitted students must obtain CPR-Health Care Provider certification in their entrance year.
Ocean and marine science
The Department of Oceanography states plainly that Dalhousie is Canada's premier location for ocean research and education, and the university's ocean campaign names the Ocean Frontier Institute, the Ocean Tracking Network, the Aquatron, and the Beaty Centre for Marine Biodiversity.
Selection: Ocean-facing study normally enters through the Bachelor of Science with its 75% minimum and pre-calculus requirement rather than a separate ocean admission route.
Agricultural Campus degrees and diplomas
Truro delivers BSc Agriculture and Bioveterinary Science, BSc(Agr) majors including Agricultural Business, Agricultural Economics, Animal Science, Aquaculture, Environmental Sciences and Plant Science, the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, an International Food Business dual degree, a Bachelor of Technology in Small Business Management, and technology diplomas.
Selection: Diploma minimums start at 60%; degree minimums are 75%. The campus also runs Pre-Veterinary Medicine and an Indigenous Student Access Pathway.
Truro Start
Students begin first year in Truro and then move to Halifax for the rest of the degree in Arts (BA), Science (BSc), Recreation Management, and — new for 2026 — Medical Sciences (BSc).
Selection: Dalhousie markets it on smaller class sizes and one-on-one advising, with a Halifax campus visit each semester and a new academic advisor from the second semester of first year.
Architecture and Community Design
Community Design is a direct-entry 70% route inside the Faculty of Architecture and Planning; the Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies (Architecture) runs on its own application track.
Selection: Architecture's published deadline sits earlier than the general cycle — March 1 in the 2026 sequence — so it is a separate calendar, not the standard one.
Joint and cross-registered study with King's
Dalhousie's own account of the 1923 Agreement of Association says facilities at both universities exist independently but are available to students at both schools, and that a student ID from one school is essentially a hall pass to the other.
Selection: Many King's students take courses at Dal and upper-year Dal students can enrol in courses at King's. Admission to King's programs such as the Foundation Year Program runs through King's, not through this application.
Engineering admission is not discipline admission
Dalhousie admits to the Core Engineering Program, which runs for two years and covers math, engineering, science, and design. At the end of first year students apply to one of seven disciplines — Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Environmental, Industrial, or Mechanical. Third year is when the discipline begins and when co-op can be added. Applicants aiming at a named discipline should plan for that second selection, not just the 70% entry minimum.

Canada's premier location
The Department of Oceanography states plainly that Dalhousie is Canada's premier location for ocean research and education, and that it attracts more than $100-million in research grants and awards annually.

Almost 1,000 acres
Bible Hill near Truro, about an hour from Halifax: research fields, greenhouses, a working farm with the Ruminant Animal Centre and dairy barns, and industry-leading education since 1905.

Four degree streams
Arts, Science, Recreation Management, and Medical Sciences (new for 2026) begin in Truro with smaller classes and one-on-one advising before moving to Halifax.
Dalhousie and the University of King's College
They are two separate universities on adjacent Halifax campuses, bound by articles of association signed on September 1, 1923. Dalhousie writes that facilities at both universities, like libraries and athletics departments, exist independently but are available to students at both schools, and that a student ID from one school is essentially a hall pass to the other. Many King's students take courses at Dal, and upper-year Dal students can enrol at King's.
What that does not mean is a shared admission route. The Foundation Year Program, the Bachelor of Journalism (Honours), and the King's entrance scholarships run through King's own application with their own averages and deadlines. In the third year students transition into the discipline and can choose to combine the degree with co-operative education.

Agricultural Campus in Truro
The Agricultural Campus in Bible Hill near Truro has almost 1,000 acres of research fields, gardens and greenhouses and a working farm including the Ruminant Animal Centre, poultry labs, equine facilities and dairy barns. Dalhousie cites a proud history of industry-leading education and research since 1905, calls the campus the single largest employer in Bible Hill, and publishes 11,000+ Faculty of Agriculture alumni.

The Faculty of Agriculture publishes that 90% of graduates are employed within six months of graduation and 95% of employed graduates have careers in their field.
The faculty page does not attach a survey year or cohort to these percentages, so treat them as marketing figures rather than dated outcome data.

Students begin first year in Truro and complete the rest of the degree in Halifax. The published streams are Arts, Science, Recreation Management, and Medical Sciences (New for 2026!). Dalhousie markets smaller class sizes and one-on-one advising, connects students to a Halifax academic advisor going into the second semester of first year, and schedules Halifax campus visits once per semester, typically in November and late February.
