Dalplex Guide: Dalhousie's Gym, Pool, Sexton Gym, Intramurals and the Langille Centre

Dalplex is Dalhousie's largest athletic facility, on South Street on the Studley Campus in Halifax. If you're a full-time Dal student, your student services fee already covers Dalplex and Sexton Gym downtown, so there's nothing extra to buy. Part-time and co-op students pay a term rate. On the Truro campus, the Langille Athletic Centre plays the same role.

Who gets in free and what others pay

Full-time students have Dalplex and Sexton Gym memberships in their student services fee. Access runs by term: September 1 to December 31, January 1 to April 30, and May 1 to August 31. Full-time students on a co-op term who don't pay the student services fee lose access until they return, unless they buy a co-op membership.

Separately, full-time students on the Halifax campuses pay a fitness facilities renewal fee of $90 a term, up to $180 a year, which Dal says supports Dalplex upgrades. You can't opt out of it.

  • Part-time and co-op prices don't include HST. Memberships expire at the end of each term.
  • You need photo ID to buy a membership or pass, and purchases are in person only.
  • Visitors can buy a day pass for $13.16 plus tax for adults, or a 10-visit pass for $100 plus tax.
  • If you forget your card, you get 15 grace entries a calendar year. A lost student card is replaced by the DalCard office.

Fitness classes, intramurals and clubs

Group fitness classes are included in a Dalplex membership, and Dal encourages booking ahead. Spin classes hold 18 people and need a bike booking. Cancel at least an hour before, or you lose advance booking for 7 days.

Intramurals are recreational leagues and tournaments at competitive, semi-competitive and recreational levels. You register in the Fusion Play app, as a team or as a player asking to join one. Many residence halls enter teams, so ask yours. Bring your student ID to every game.

  • Fall 2026 registration opened September 2 for soccer and flag football, September 8 for basketball and volleyball, September 9 for inner-tube water polo and dodgeball, and September 10 for ice hockey and golf.
  • Fall leagues started the week of September 13. Most leagues run by term; ice hockey and men's basketball run from late September to March.
  • Part-time and co-op students need a Dalplex membership to play intramurals.

Sexton Gym and the Oulton-Stanish Centre

Sexton Gym is at 1360 Barrington Street on the downtown Sexton Campus, home to Dal's engineering and architecture faculties. It has a renovated weight and cardio room, a stretching room, a fitness studio with group classes and a gymnasium. Full-time students get in as part of their fees.

The Oulton-Stanish Centre at 6191 South Street is a 60,000-square-foot ice facility on Studley Campus. It's home to the Dal Tigers hockey teams, intramural hockey, and the ringette and figure skating clubs. Dal's membership page says Dal students get into Dal Tigers varsity games free.

The Langille Athletic Centre in Truro

On the Agricultural Campus, the Langille Athletic Centre at 20 Cumming Drive has a gymnasium, weight and cardio rooms and squash courts. Dal says it's included in student fees, with free fitness classes such as yoga and pickleball and recreational leagues. It's home to the Dal Rams varsity teams.

It's open 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Sunday. It's closed on Thanksgiving Monday, Christmas Eve through Boxing Day, New Year's Eve and Day, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Natal Day and Good Friday.
