A semester price needs a semester course load

Guelph charges flat-rate tuition when you register in 2.0 credits or more in one semester. The Arts and Science Ontario rate is $3,106.37. Our calculation for Fall and Winter is $3,106.37 x 2 = $6,212.74. A third semester would be another study period. This two-semester amount doesn't claim to cover a summer course or a program with a different schedule.

At 1.75 credits or less, tuition is charged per credit. The university changed its academic definitions of full-time and part-time in Summer 2026, but says that change doesn't alter tuition and fee calculations. Read the billing rule rather than using the words full-time as a shortcut. Your OSAP course-load category is another separate test and can matter even when the tuition plateau doesn't apply.

Domestic Ontario status has a published residency test. It considers residence before post-secondary study and has rules for dependent students or a spouse. OSAP eligibility is also one listed route. Moving into a Guelph residence isn't enough on its own to establish the cheaper rate. Check the fee status in your records and send the required evidence if you need a review.

Engineering has two non-Ontario price groups

Ontario Engineering tuition is $5,755.86 per semester in the 2026-27 table. For other Canadian residents, the amount depends on the listed major group. The BIO, ENV, WRE, ESC and UND row is $6,221.44. The BME, CIVE, COMP and MECH row is $7,202.10. Don't pick an Engineering amount without reading which row contains your major or undeclared route.

Computing is separate from both ordinary Arts and Science and Engineering. Its Ontario semester tuition is $4,340.37, while Commerce is $5,282.58. Some programs also have their own miscellaneous fees. Our Guelph Engineering requirements guide and Guelph Computing guide explain those entry routes. Their academic requirements don't change the fee category on your account.

International tuition also depends on cohort. Guelph defines cohort by first admission, or a later admission or readmission to a program. The 2026 entrant's Arts and Science semester price is $22,276.10. The older-cohort columns aren't alternative prices a new student can select. Ask about the fee effect before changing programs or returning after a break; the cheapest visible row may belong to another cohort.

Fall 2027 international starting tuition is approved

The Registrar says the Board has approved its 2027-28 international rates, effective from Fall 2027. New main-campus Arts and Sciences tuition is $46,780 for the academic year. Business is $57,112 and Computing is $58,807. Engineering is $66,099; Landscape Architecture is $57,124. Those amounts are published future prices, so they don't belong in a list of unconfirmed tuition.

Programs not separately listed at the main campus fall under Arts and Sciences in that table. Guelph-Humber has separate rows, as do diploma programs. Returning students also have cohort-specific increases. The table isn't a complete price for a first-year offer: it doesn't provide the new compulsory slate or next year's health premium. Add only charges with the same cycle when the detailed schedule appears.

The international recruitment page now displays these tuition figures, but its cost footnote still says 2025-26. Its opening expense range also differs from the total beneath the table. We use the Registrar's explicit approval for tuition and don't adopt either broad total as a verified Fall 2027 budget. That keeps an approved tuition price separate from an inconsistent living-cost estimate.

Add the student fees, then the charges for your own route

At the flat-fee course load, compulsory fees are $969.82 for Fall 2026 and $673.71 for Winter 2027. Our calculation is $1,643.53 for the two semesters. That slate includes the bus pass and the listed student medical and dental plans. The larger fall amount reflects annual charges collected then. It isn't a reason to charge the same annual insurance again in winter.

The fall medical plan is $174 and dental is $120. For the main campus, Guelph says you can't opt out of medical. Dental permits an opt-out with proof of equivalent coverage and an on-time form. Ridgetown's separate health and dental wording differs, so don't apply it to the main campus. A new winter entrant has a separate annual-plan assessment rule rather than the continuing student's winter slate alone.

UHIP, the University Health Insurance Plan, adds basic medical cover for international students. Fall-start single coverage is $948 for 2026-27. It sits in the miscellaneous list rather than the ordinary compulsory total above. Orientation is another first-year fall charge, at $92.54. College levies and co-op fees also depend on your registration. The fee list shows $405 for an academic co-op semester and for a registered work term.

The room bill leaves food and an activity fee outside it

Guelph labels its Fall 2026/Winter 2027 room rates tentative and subject to change. A North/South triple has a printed annual total of $8,387. A standard North/South double is $9,092. Room fees include the mandatory insurance premium and laundry. The separate Interhall Council activity fee is $28.84 per semester. IHC means the residence student government, whose fee supports hall activities.

Traditional residences require a campus meal plan. Minimum costs $5,750 for 2026-27; Full costs $7,050. Those are annual plans paid in two instalments. Kitchen-equipped East and West residences and East Village townhouses have optional campus plans. Choosing no plan there still leaves food to buy. The Guelph residence guide compares the rooms and application rules.

The housing table has a Winter 2026 heading beside the Fall 2026/Winter 2027 title. Its two triple-room instalments also don't add to the printed annual total. The example uses that annual total and keeps the issue visible. Get the actual semester bill before paying. A holiday stay or approved early arrival can add charges outside the standard contract; neither is assumed in this budget.

A meal-plan price isn't all spendable food dollars

Guelph deducts capital and fixed overhead components before loading Basic and Flex food dollars. The advertised annual price already includes those components. Don't add them as another fee beside the plan. Basic purchases receive the stated discount at eligible campus outlets, while Flex purchases don't. The two accounts pay for different kinds of purchases, so a remaining Flex balance doesn't promise the same value as Basic.

Half of your food dollars load in September and half in mid-December. You can monitor the balances through the meal-plan account. The campus plan isn't cash refundable. Its current change deadline is September 30, 2026; that isn't a confirmed deadline for a Fall 2027 plan. An optional textbook add-on is separate from the food plan, and no textbook allowance is hidden in our meal amount.

The worked example includes small fees that are easy to miss

The example selects an Ontario Arts student who is billed the College of Arts Student Union fee, with no co-op or distance courses. It uses two flat-rate semesters, a North/South triple and Minimum meals. The college fee is $8 each semester. Our calculation is $16 for both. The residence activity fee adds $57.68, our calculation from $28.84 in each semester.

Our calculation for all listed lines is $6,212.74 tuition + $1,643.53 compulsory fees + $16 college fees + $92.54 orientation + $8,387 room + $5,750 meals + $57.68 IHC = $22,159.49. The room rate remains tentative. Another college or program changes the extra charges. We haven't reduced the figure for an unawarded scholarship or an opt-out that hasn't been approved.

Books, travel and personal spending remain outside the total. The older Canadian recruitment budget estimates $1,400 for textbooks, but explicitly bases its cost table on 2025-26. It isn't a new quote for your reading list. The cost calculator has an Arts/triple starting preset. Its academic amount includes ordinary compulsory fees; check orientation, college fees and IHC separately when making a complete comparison.

Three deposits serve two different bills

The international deposit page explicitly makes the domestic $500 registration deposit due June 15, 2027. It credits first-term tuition rather than adding a fee. Standard Fall 2027 international entry instead requires $2,000 by June 15, 2027. Paying that deposit removes the separate $500 requirement. Transfer applicants pay within two weeks of accepting; late offers have offer-specific windows. Count the deposit against the academic bill once.

Housing has a separate $750 deposit due June 1, 2027 for fall entry. The housing fee page now says it will credit Winter 2028 residence fees. It doesn't reduce the next fall payment. Guaranteed-room deposits are generally non-refundable under the published conditions; the page lists exceptions, including a wait-listed applicant's cancellation. Read the room offer and cancellation policy before relying on a refund.

The international tuition deposit also has a limited study-permit-refusal refund process. You must request the refund, drop registered courses and submit the refusal letter within fourteen days of its date. The university warns that bank charges and currency changes can affect what comes back. A housing cancellation is separate. Don't assume that an academic refund request cancels the room or meal plan for you.

An instalment plan needs approval before the payment date

Guelph posts charges in WebAdvisor and bills by semester. The checked financial calendar makes Fall 2026 payment due September 18, 2026. Its winter section still covers Winter 2026. We don't turn that old January date into a Winter 2027 deadline. Confirm the current amount due in Account View and leave time for the bank payment to arrive, rather than treating the send date as receipt.

You can request an instalment plan before the semester payment deadline. Approval requires no unpaid earlier-semester balance and at least 33% of the current amount initially. The current fee list gives a $60 payment-plan fee. For Fall 2026, the instalments are due September 18, October 18 and November 18. Those dates explain the current plan; they aren't a Fall 2027 offer.

Awards reduce the balance but don't count toward your first instalment. Guelph asks you to wait for awards to post before calculating the plan when possible. If an award is still pending in payment week, you can apply using the current balance and pay the first instalment. A later credit adjusts the remaining two payments. Check that approval appears in WebAdvisor before relying on this arrangement.

Refund dates arrive well before the last academic drop

The main-campus twelve-week Fall 2026 schedule allows a full tuition refund through September 20. It then steps down through the bands in the table, reaching no tuition refund on October 12. Compulsory fees have their own full-refund window through September 30. Medical, dental and miscellaneous charges have additional rules. Use the main-campus undergraduate block, rather than a Guelph-Humber or graduate schedule.

A timely drop doesn't reduce tuition if you remain registered in 2.0 credits or more. You're still paying the flat rate. Simply stopping attendance or telling your instructor also doesn't count as an official withdrawal. Guelph says academic drops without penalty can extend to the last day of classes, but the tuition-refund window ends earlier. A later academic date isn't a refund extension.

Undergraduates request a refund after the tuition-refund schedule has ended, unless an eligible unchanged-registration overpayment rule applies. Credits can instead carry to the next semester. OSAP recipients may need funds returned to the loan service centre, and international payments have separate limits. The university can review or deny a request. A negative account balance isn't a promise that the same amount is available as cash immediately.

Confirmed entrance awards still arrive by semester

Guelph now explicitly labels its domestic automatic bands Fall 2027. Eligible Canadian citizens and permanent residents entering post-secondary study for the first time receive $1,000 at 90.0% to 94.9%, or $2,000 at 95% or higher. The award is first-year only. Guelph assesses eligible admission files and can reconsider the value in May and August. You don't submit a separate scholarship application for these bands.

The scholarship is paid in equal fall and winter credits. Full-time registration in both semesters is required for the full value. It can't be combined with the named President's, Lincoln Alexander Chancellor's or Board of Governors' awards. The entrance-award instructions say offers are communicated before the end of May. A bursary also needs a financial assessment; applying doesn't establish how much you'll receive.

International scholarship pages disagree. Recruitment shows first-year President's amounts of $10,000 to $20,000, followed by $7,500 in each of three years. Its linked E1479 record still lists competitive $2,000 to $7,500 awards, while the central table labels the smaller bands Fall 2026. Ask Awards which terms apply to your entry year. Neither package is deducted from the example. Our Guelph financial-aid guide owns the wider award choices.

OSAP confirmation and payment aren't the same day

OSAP is the Ontario Student Assistance Program. Guelph starts confirming enrolment about ten days before the study period. Your course load must match the application. The school estimates another five to ten business days from confirmation to receipt of funding. For a fall/winter application, the standing split is 60% in fall and 40% in winter. Clear the fall balance so winter confirmation can proceed.

Funding goes to the student account first, with any eligible excess going to your bank. If confirmation is complete and your aid covers the term balance, Guelph says you don't need to pay that amount again while it posts. You must pay a shortfall. The school recommends completing the application at least eight weeks before study and also gives yearless June 30 advice. Neither fixes a Fall 2027 opening date or guarantees your release day.

What remains unconfirmed for the next cost cycle

The checked sources don't publish 2027-28 domestic tuition, the full compulsory-fee slate, UHIP, room rates or meal-plan prices. Fall 2027/Winter 2028 account payment and tuition-refund schedules and new plan terms also remain unconfirmed. Winter 2027 payment/refund dates aren't in the returned dedicated tables either. Recheck February 1, 2027 and again before paying or accepting a room contract.

Keep the confirmed future pieces: approved international tuition and the June 2027 deposit dates. The domestic automatic scholarship bands also have a Fall 2027 label. Remaining international award differences need a direct answer from Awards. Our Guelph university hub links the broader planning pages, and the Ontario application-deadlines guide keeps admission tasks separate from the fee-payment calendar.
