Western's annual program fee depends on your course load

Western publishes tuition and a separate total that includes student fees. For ordinary full-time programs, the 2026-27 schedule applies at 4.0 courses or more over fall and winter. Cohort-based degrees have the stated 3.5-course threshold. A lighter load can use the per-course schedule. Check the billing rule before assuming that removing one course will reduce a full program fee.

The Ontario first-year Arts and Humanities total is $8,197.46. Science and Social Science total $8,222.46 even though their tuition is also $6,171. Their faculty donation differs. This is why a search result can show two valid Western totals for the same tuition rate. Keep the degree name beside the figure. Our Western Science guide explains the broad first-year entry.

Computer Science and MOS share $8,077 domestic tuition, including the same amount for Ontario and other provinces. Their international rates differ. Engineering uses a separate higher fee group. Medical Sciences belongs to the ordinary Science tuition band in this first-year table. The name of a subject isn't enough to decide its price; the published program row is what matters.

Ontario status requires the right evidence

Most first-year arts and science tuition is $7,719 for other-province domestic students in 2026-27. Western allows eligible students to request the Ontario rate with documents. The rules include a dependent student's parent living in Ontario. For an independent student, the 12-month residence period excludes time as a full-time post-secondary student. Renting a room in London for classes doesn't alone meet that test.

Other cases include a spouse's Ontario residence and eligible government-aid or status rules. Submit the actual exemption application and supporting evidence by the university's deadline. A scholarship is funding; it doesn't itself change your tuition group. If you think the account uses the wrong category, contact Student Financial Services while there is still time to correct it.

The international fee guarantee limits tuition increases after first year to no more than 4% annually for eligible first-entry students staying in their program. It has exceptions for switching programs, repeating first year and returning after leave or internship. It doesn't cover second-entry degrees in the same way. It also doesn't publish the starting fee for a future Fall 2027 entrant.

Required services and opt-out items sit inside the total

Western's student charges pay for more than classes. The 2026-27 list includes $567.44 in university services and a $323.55 transit pass. The full program table also carries student-organization charges, extended health and dental, and first-year orientation. Some components are required. Others follow a limited opt-out process. Keep the published slate in a budget until the account confirms a valid removal.

The orientation charge is $150.39 in the first-year rows, with the stated tax included. Upper-year rows aren't first-year budgets because they omit that charge. Faculty donations also vary, so the cheapest faculty total isn't the default for everyone. Don't add the ancillary breakdown to a program total again. The table total already contains those listed components.

The first-time Western ONECard is the exception: its $50 charge is outside the schedule totals. Add it once when planning your first year. Program equipment and other listed course charges can also be separate. The Ivey Business Year 1 row refers to the HBA stage, not the first year after high school. Read the Ivey HBA guide if that later path is in your plan.

Extended health and dental don't replace basic international cover

USC is Western's University Students' Council. Its 2026-27 undergraduate health fee is $257.26 and dental is $223.39. Both are already in the program totals. The USC page links the plan provider and claim-registration instructions. Graduate coverage uses another plan. A quoted graduate premium therefore won't give you the right cost for first-year undergraduate study.

A plan opt-out needs the provider's actual rules and deadline. Other extended cover can matter, but don't remove the charge just because you're insured elsewhere. Wait for the account adjustment. The virtual-doctor service also has a separate line within the student fee list. Keeping the plan, transit and orientation lines visible helps you see what an opt-out would actually change.

UHIP is the University Health Insurance Plan, a separate basic medical plan for international students. Western's 2026-27 international PDF has a conflict. The fee rows show $948 and their totals include it, but the note says $792 for the same printed year. We retain both statements. Our international totals use the row basis; ask Western for your assessed premium before treating them as a personal quote.

Residence food credit is only part of the meal-plan price

Western's 2026-27 eight-month rooms range from $8,900 for a Delaware bunked double to $13,620 for an Elgin or Essex single. Those prices include utilities, internet and tenant insurance. Food is separate. Most first-year residents must take a meal plan. Bayfield and Lambton are exceptions. Our Western residence guide compares the rooms and application rules.

Meal Plan 2 costs $7,700, with $3,500 in food credit. The remaining published components are $4,050 overhead and $150 capital improvements. Our calculation is $3,500 + $4,050 + $150 = $7,700. The plan price isn't a balance you can spend entirely on meals. Meal Plan 1 has $4,100 food credit and a total of $8,300.

The housing page calls room charges, meal overhead and the capital fee non-refundable. Food credit has separate refund treatment. These are different from tuition refund percentages. An optional meal plan also doesn't mean food costs disappear. If you choose Bayfield or Lambton without a plan, use your own realistic food budget. Don't add an insurance allowance when the selected room rate already contains the published coverage.

Build the first-year example from a named room

Our example uses a full-time Ontario Science entrant, excluding Computer Science. The student takes a Medway-Sydenham double at $10,260 and Meal Plan 2 at $7,700. The annual Science fee total is $8,222.46, plus $50 for ONECard. Our calculation is $8,222.46 + $50 + $10,260 + $7,700 = $26,232.46.

The result covers the listed academic fees, one eight-month room and its meal plan. It doesn't cover books, travel or personal spending. We haven't used a market rent estimate or a promised scholarship. We retain health, dental and faculty charges in the printed program total. An approved opt-out or a different room selection can change the bill, so the example is a comparison tool rather than an offer price.

A commuter should remove the residence choice and enter actual housing and food costs. Living at home can still involve transport or other expenses; we don't price those without evidence. The university cost calculator lets you enter your own figures. Check each input's year and fee scope before deciding which school appears cheaper.

The standard plan starts before first-year classes

Western automatically puts undergraduates on the standard payment plan. For first-year 2026-27 students, the first payment was due August 4, 2026. The stated rule is 50% of the balance plus the listed non-refundable charges. The rest is due December 1, 2026. Don't simply divide the headline annual total into equal halves and assume that is your August amount.

Housing and tuition appear on one Statement of Account. Use its instalment amount and due date. The $900 residence prepayment is a separate earlier step made through the housing portal. It is a prepayment towards housing rather than another annual room charge in our example. Check that your account shows the payment before using its remaining balance as your budget.

The admissions calendar confirms June 3, 2027 for the Fall 2027 residence questionnaire and prepayment deadline. The detailed future housing offer still needs a check for its amount and cancellation terms. The current refund policy also lists a $2,500 non-refundable admission deposit for new international students under a 2026-27 heading. That separate deposit credits future charges; we haven't labelled it a confirmed Fall 2027 amount.

The flexible plan has a fee and an enrolment cutoff

The 2026-27 flexible undergraduate plan costs $120, which isn't refundable. It required enrolment by August 19, 2026 and is now closed for that cycle. The first payment was 30% of the year's balance plus the plan fee. The remaining 70% is split into five instalments, due at the end of September, October, November, December and January.

You need current-year registration, a balance owing and no old unpaid term balance. If you'll live in residence, wait until housing charges appear before applying. A plan arranged too early won't include charges added later. Western says confirmed instalments won't be adjusted for new fees. Watch the statement for those extra amounts as well as the plan itself.

The plan doesn't remove late penalties. Western currently states 1.5% monthly on an overdue balance. Aid arriving later doesn't refund the plan fee. Nor does an application automatically enrol you in a future year's plan. These are published 2026-27 terms. No 2027-28 fee, opening date or enrolment cutoff is confirmed in the checked page.

Refund schedules depend on program-fee or per-course billing

Western has separate tuition refund tables for full program fees and per-course fees. The full-program 2026-27 PDF shows 53% on October 16 and 25% on November 27. It says zero after December 1. Those are tuition percentages, not refunds of every charge on the account. The withdrawal date must be authorised by your faculty's academic counselling office.

There is a boundary wording difference at the start. The annual refund PDF says before September 17 for 100%, then shows September 18 at 88%. The academic page says September 17 is the last no-fee-penalty drop day. The ordinary per-course fall and full-year rows also show September 17 at 100%. Confirm the correct billing table and date rather than filling the gap in the annual PDF yourself.

For a Fall 12-week course, the academic withdrawal limit is November 30, 2026 for WDN, meaning withdrawn without academic penalty. After that, the page says an F applies. A WDN protects the record under that rule; it doesn't promise a full refund. Quarter courses differ. The checked academic page stops in December 2026, so we haven't guessed a winter 2027 withdrawal deadline.

International refunds go to the original payment source under Western's policy. A tuition credit also doesn't cancel your residence contract. Ask housing about its separate terms before assuming that leaving the degree returns the room payment. Deal with the academic withdrawal and housing cancellation as separate tasks, with both confirmations saved.

Automatic award headlines include study-abroad money

Western's standing automatic award bands begin at a 90% final admission average. The Admission Scholarship headline is $2,500, but only $1,500 is for first year. The other $1,000 is for an eligible optional study-abroad experience. At 92% to 100%, the Distinction headline is $3,500, made up of $2,500 for first year and $1,000 abroad. Budget the first-year share, not the headline.

The competitive Scholarship of Excellence is $8,000: $6,000 for first year and $2,000 for an eligible international experience. There are 250 awards on the current page. Selection uses the top admission averages; it isn't a fixed percentage promise. Students entering full-time first year at main campus directly from secondary school are automatically considered. The standing guaranteed-consideration date is March 1, with no year printed.

Distinction and Admission scholarships are normally confirmed after the first instalment is due. Western says they post before the end of September and can support the second instalment. You can't assume they pay the August bill. The housing page separately allows Excellence and some named awards to reduce the first instalment. Our Western financial-aid guide explains those funding routes and award exclusions.

OSAP timing and bursary dates need separate checks

OSAP means Ontario Student Assistance Program. Western says processing generally takes six to eight weeks. It recommends applying by June 30 so funding can arrive at the study period's start. That target has no year, and the usual May opening isn't a confirmed 2027-28 launch date. The school confirms enrolment before each payment, usually around September and January.

Your assessed aid may cover only part of the first instalment. Review the amount expected on your statement and pay the remaining balance by its due date. Report course-load or income changes so the assessment stays correct. Western reports its own scholarships to OSAP. You remain responsible for reporting outside funding under the stated rules. Our OSAP guide covers the application steps.

Western's dated admissions calendar says July 9, 2027 for the admission bursary application. The housing page still recommends July 10 with no year. We preserve that difference and use the explicitly dated 2027 deadline for that cycle. The National Scholarship deadline is February 14, 2027 on the same calendar. Neither date means an award is guaranteed or already available for a tuition payment.

Recheck new-cycle prices before accepting the cost

The newest linked tuition and residence schedules read on October 16, 2026 cover 2026-27. The fee PDFs retain draft wording, while the housing page says rates can change or need approval. We show the printed amounts with those limits. We couldn't confirm 2027-28 tuition, ancillary premiums, room or meal prices, plan terms, or refund dates. Recheck February 1, 2027 and again before a non-refundable commitment.

Fall 2027 admission dates are already published separately. January 15, 2027 is equal consideration, and the June 3 residence deadline is confirmed. The Western deadline guide owns that calendar. The Western university hub keeps school-wide context. This page is the detailed owner for annual tuition, fee scope and payment choices.
