Université de Montréal Acceptance Rate: What Official Data Shows

For Fall 2024, Université de Montréal's Law program received 1,133 applications for 264 places, and Medicine received 1,655 for 201. UdeM publishes those counts, plus the R-scores of admitted Quebec college students, for every program with limited capacity. It doesn't publish offers, so the numbers show competition, not an acceptance rate. Here's how to read them.

The short answer

  • For Fall 2024, UdeM Law had 1,133 applications for 264 places, and Medicine had 1,655 for 201.
  • UdeM publishes applications and places, not offers, so it does not give an acceptance rate.
  • Places divided by applications understates your chances, because schools can make more offers than places.
  • Law had about four applications per place in Fall 2024, and Medicine about eight.
  • R-scores apply to Quebec CEGEP students (a Quebec college most Quebec students attend before university), not to Ontario high-school applicants.

UdeM's admission statistics list, for each program with limited capacity, the number of applications, the number of places, and the lowest and average R-score of students admitted from Quebec colleges. The table shows 13 of the busiest programs.

R-scores keep UdeM's decimal comma, so 33,168 means 33.168. For Medicine, UdeM gives the R-scores of applicants invited to interview, not of those admitted. Kinesiology and Nutrition take part in UdeM's Profil global approach and publish no minimum R-score.

Why applications per place isn't an acceptance rate

An acceptance rate is offers divided by applicants. UdeM gives places, not offers. A program can make more offers than it has places, because some admitted students go elsewhere. So places divided by applications understates your chances, and we don't publish it as a rate.

The counts are still useful. They show which programs are crowded: Law had about four applications per place in Fall 2024, while Medicine had about eight.

What the R-scores mean for you

The R-score (cote de rendement au collégial) ranks Quebec college (CEGEP) students. UdeM's footnotes say the R-scores describe people admitted on the basis of college studies, as of July 11, 2024. An R-score equal to or above last year's lowest admitted score doesn't guarantee admission the next year.

If you're applying from an Ontario high school, the R-scores don't apply to you, but the applications-per-place counts still show how competitive each program is. Check your own route in the Université de Montréal admissions guide.

Programs without a cap

Many UdeM programs don't limit enrolment. For those, the Fall 2024 statistics give a minimum R-score for college applicants instead of application counts. Computer science (Informatique) asked for at least 25,000, and most arts and social science programs asked for 22,000.
