Quick answer: Accelerated nursing is not one standardized Canadian route. It can mean after-degree entry, second entry after university credits, advanced standing, a compressed direct-entry calendar, or a practical-nurse bridge. Start with your completed study and intended regulator, then compare the exact credit threshold, prerequisites, campus, duration, application system, deadline status, clinical schedule, and applicant-category rule.
There is no universal two-year duration, GPA, prerequisite set, or deadline. Accelerated does not mean easier or less clinically complete. It changes entry position, calendar, or recognition of prior education; it does not erase the regulated education and clinical outcomes attached to the program.
Use the Canada-wide nursing programs guide for profession, regulator, accreditation, and national fit. Use the Ontario nursing programs guide for the complete current CNO RN inventory and 2027–2028 OUAC direct-entry finder.
Five different entry models hiding under “accelerated”
Degree-holder or after-degree
A completed undergraduate degree is the starting credential. The program may specify degree length or credits, minimum average, prerequisite subjects, interview, and continuous terms. University of Lethbridge is the clearest verified after-degree example in this guide.
University-credit or second-entry
The applicant has university study but may not need a completed degree. Programs can specify a credit threshold, course level, GPA window, prerequisite subjects, and a later entry point. University of Toronto and York illustrate different versions; neither rule can be transferred to the other.
Compressed direct-entry
A school can compress a direct-entry BScN into a shorter continuous calendar without giving advanced standing for an earlier degree. Lakehead's three-year compressed record accepts direct-entry and eligible postsecondary applicants. “Compressed” therefore does not automatically mean “degree holder.”
Advanced standing
Prior university education creates entry beyond the first part of the regular sequence. UBC, Dalhousie, Queen's, and other verified records use advanced-standing or equivalent entry logic, but the required credits, prerequisites, and duration differ.
RPN/LPN-to-BScN bridge
A practical-nursing credential can lead to a specific bridge or advanced-entry BScN. It is not interchangeable with an arbitrary set of university credits or a completed non-nursing degree. Confirm the required diploma, registration status, bridge curriculum, partner site, and CNO or other regulator listing. The detailed 12-row comparison below focuses on routes whose institution pages supplied complete enough current facts; use the regulator inventory for the wider bridge universe.
Verified current comparison: 12 program records
Every cell below comes from the shared source-controlled record reviewed on August 31, 2026. “Verify” is an evidence label, not a hidden assumption. A deadline shown from an older cycle remains visibly stale rather than being rewritten.

This table is not a ranking. A route with a shorter displayed duration can require more prior study, continuous summer terms, a narrower applicant category, or a different clinical geography. A program with a published current deadline is not automatically a better choice than a program requiring direct confirmation.
Program-by-program reading notes
University of British Columbia
The University of British Columbia record is an Advanced Standing Bachelor of Science in Nursing delivered in Vancouver in person. It runs 20 months over five consecutive terms and requires at least 48 non-nursing university-transferable credits. UBC publishes a human-anatomy-and-physiology recency window. The reviewed September 2027 intake used a December 4, 2026 initial deadline, a January 15, 2027 nursing supplement, a January 17 Casper date, and a January 31 transcript date. Those distinct dates should never be collapsed into one deadline.
University of Lethbridge
The Bachelor of Nursing After Degree route is designed around an approved undergraduate degree with at least 90 credit hours. It runs 24 continuous months over six semesters across Lethbridge Polytechnic and the University of Lethbridge. The reviewed page requires anatomy and physiology, statistics, minimum B− grades in required courses, and an interview. It lists January 5, 2027 for the application and January 15 for documents.
Memorial University of Newfoundland
Memorial's accelerated option is active at Western Regional School of Nursing in Corner Brook, while St. John's admission is paused. The verified record describes three years over eight consecutive semesters, at least 30 university credit hours, and a minimum 2.8 GPA. The January 20, 2027 application and February 3 document date are separate.
Dalhousie University
Dalhousie's Semester 3 route runs two calendar years over six continuous semesters in Halifax and Yarmouth. Both campuses use the same application process. Transfers between those campuses are not permitted. The route uses prior university study, a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA, named prerequisites, and published recency conditions. Dalhousie publishes course-recency rules, so applicants should compare course subject and completion date. This guide does not invent a deadline where the reviewed official record directs the applicant to the current portal.
St. Francis Xavier University
StFX's BSc in Nursing Accelerated Option uses at least 30 university credits, named prerequisites, and six continuous semesters over 24 months. The reviewed January 2027 intake had a December 9, 2026 application deadline and was domestic-only. That applicant-category boundary is program and intake specific, not a national rule.
Humber Polytechnic
Humber's current 2026–2027 official viewbook confirms Nursing Second-Entry Preparation code NR011, a degree or at least 60 university credits, and a minimum 75% average. The viewbook does not provide a complete current schedule or deadline, so the detailed row says to verify rather than supplying an unsourced duration or date.
Lakehead University
Lakehead's Three-Year Compressed BScN includes summer study and is available to direct-entry and eligible postsecondary applicants. It belongs in an accelerated-search guide because of the compressed calendar, but it should not be rewritten as an after-degree route. Verify the exact applicant requirements and current cycle directly.
Queen's University
Queen's Accelerated Standing Track runs two calendar years including summer terms. The reviewed admission record requires at least 60 graded university units, a 2.7 GPA, and named prerequisites. The 2027 application date is February 1 and required documents are due March 15. Apply through OUAC and follow the Queen's supplement instructions.
Trent University
Trent's compressed BScN runs 28 months and uses OUAC code RFN for the reviewed route. Eligible groups include applicants with prior university study and specified practical-nursing pathways. The reviewed Fall 2027 application deadline is January 15. Do not substitute the high-school direct-entry RCN code from the Ontario guide.
University of Toronto
The Bloomberg Nursing BScN is a two-year, full-time, in-person route at St. George. It requires at least 10.0 university credits, including 4.0 above first year, a minimum B average over the most recent five credits, and named subject prerequisites. Apply through OUAC by January 15 and complete the supplement by February 1. “Two years” does not remove the prior-study requirement.
Western University
Western's Regular Compressed Time Frame BScN runs 19 months over five consecutive terms. The reviewed page uses 10.0 university-level full-course equivalents for the admission-average calculation, a minimum 75%, and named prerequisite areas. Its current page still displays February 15, 2026. This guide preserves that date as stale-cycle evidence and tells Fall 2027 applicants to obtain the next deadline.
York University
York's 2nd Entry Nursing Program runs two years over six semesters at Keele Campus. The reviewed Fall 2027 page requires at least 60 university credits, an overall B average, B+ over the last 30 credits, and named prerequisites. It includes international applicants for Fall 2027. That evidence applies to York's route and cycle, not every accelerated program.
Eligibility decision tree
- Do you have a practical-nursing credential? Start with RPN/LPN-to-BScN bridges and regulator requirements. Do not treat the diploma as generic university credit.
- Do you have a completed non-nursing degree? Compare after-degree and degree-holder routes, then check whether second-entry programs also accept you.
- Do you have university credits but no degree? Compare exact credit thresholds, course levels, GPA windows, and advanced-standing entry points.
- Are you applying from high school? Limit the list to compressed routes that explicitly allow direct entry; most second-entry rows will not fit.
- Are your prerequisites complete and recent enough? Obtain written equivalency or recency decisions for ambiguous courses.
- Does your applicant category qualify? Check domestic, international, residency, campus, and intake restrictions.
- Can you complete the calendar? Count terms, summer study, placement travel, and periods when paid work is unrealistic.
- Can you meet each date? Separate the application, supplement, test, transcript, and document deadlines.
- Does the regulator recognize the pathway? Match the exact program and entry stream in the relevant jurisdiction.
If no row fits, do not force an application by relabeling credits or prerequisites. Investigate direct-entry BScN programs, prerequisite completion, practical-nursing education, transfer planning, or a later cycle.
Prerequisite audit
Create one line for every required course:

Do not decide equivalency by course title alone. A course called “human biology,” “health statistics,” or “developmental psychology” may or may not cover the required content because the receiving institution decides equivalency. Send the transcript, syllabus, calendar description, lab hours, credit weight, completion date, and grading scale that it requests.
Dalhousie publishes course-recency rules, and UBC publishes a human-anatomy-and-physiology recency window. Where another reviewed page is silent, silence means verify, not that a course never expires. This guide does not transfer one school's recency rule to another.
GPA audit
Record:
- whether the program uses cumulative, recent, prerequisite, degree, or selected-credit grades;
- the number and level of credits included;
- treatment of repeats, withdrawals, pass/fail, transfer, exchange, and graduate courses;
- whether in-progress prerequisites enter the calculation;
- the published minimum and its year; and
- whether the minimum only establishes eligibility.
Memorial's 2.8, Dalhousie's 2.5, Queen's 2.7, Western's 75%, Humber's 75%, York's B/B+, and Toronto's B evidence are not directly comparable. They use different scales, windows, and eligibility models.
A 12-month application timeline
Anchor this to the earliest current deadline on your real list.
Twelve to ten months before
- Identify your intended profession and regulator.
- Sort programs by completed degree, completed credits, RPN/LPN credential, or direct-entry eligibility.
- Order unofficial transcripts and audit total credits.
- Build the prerequisite and recency sheet.
- Ask programs how they assess ambiguous courses.
- Estimate continuous-term, relocation, and placement costs.
Nine to seven months before
- Request official transcripts from every institution attended.
- Complete or register in any permitted outstanding prerequisite.
- Ask permission from referees only where the current route requires them.
- Create application-service accounts and record program codes.
- Schedule Casper or another assessment only from the current route instructions.
- Contact accessibility services about lab, simulation, attendance, and clinical planning.
Six to four months before
- Submit applications before the earliest route deadline.
- Complete every separate supplement or test.
- Confirm transcript and document receipt in each portal.
- Save confirmation emails and screenshots.
- Correct program-code or applicant-type errors immediately.
- Continue checking whether a stale-cycle deadline has been replaced.
Three to one months before decisions or deposits
- Monitor portals weekly.
- Respond to prerequisite, residency, citizenship, or document requests.
- Recheck regulator status, campus, and active intake.
- Compare the full cost and clinical geography of actual offers.
- Confirm any accommodation process and lead time.
- Read deposit, deferral, and refund conditions before paying.
After accepting
- Complete immunization, screening, CPR, police-record, or fit-testing steps early.
- Confirm registration, timetable, and continuous-term calendar.
- Plan transport and backup travel for placements.
- Recheck all conditional-offer requirements.
- Keep source records until enrolment and program status are confirmed.
Workload and clinical-schedule questions
Ask the program and current students different kinds of questions. The program controls requirements; students can describe experience.
- How many consecutive terms are required, and which include summer?
- Can any term be taken part-time without losing progression?
- How are lecture, lab, simulation, independent preparation, and clinical hours distributed?
- How early can clinical shifts begin, and can they include nights or weekends?
- How wide is the placement geography?
- Is private transportation expected?
- Can a student decline or exchange an assigned site?
- What happens after a missed clinical day?
- Which health, immunization, record-check, CPR, and fit-testing dates apply?
- How do external sites implement disability-related accommodations?
- Which courses or progression rules most often delay students?
- Can a student repeat a failed course immediately, or only with the next cohort?
- Which terms leave realistic space for paid employment?
- Are placement travel and temporary housing reimbursed?
- Does a partner campus or hospital control any part of scheduling?
Accelerated does not mean fewer responsibilities. A compressed calendar can intensify the sequence and reduce recovery or remediation time. Build financial and caregiving plans around the published term calendar, not the marketing duration alone.

Apply hard constraints before preference. A route requiring a missing degree, credit count, prerequisite, applicant category, or clinical schedule is not made eligible by a shorter duration or preferred campus.
Source freshness and candidate audit
The baseline audit began with 15 candidates identified through current regulator or CASN evidence. Twelve received detailed rows because current first-party pages verified the active route and enough entry facts. Three remain in the audit without a detailed comparison row. This boundary avoids filling gaps from old aggregators.

University of New Brunswick's current evidence confirms an active accelerated route and a November 15 date but not one complete controlling prerequisites/admissions page. McMaster's current pages confirm an Accelerated Stream and Casper but do not expose a complete current duration and admissions fact set. These omissions are not rankings and do not say the routes are closed.
Recheck before applying, before paying a deposit, and before enrolment. Save the institution page, regulator record, application-service choice, and date checked. When two official sources conflict, ask the institution and regulator rather than selecting the more convenient claim.
