The George at a glance

The George is at 80 Cooperage Street. George Brown says it houses over 500 students and is a short walk from St. James and the Waterfront health sciences building. Casa Loma is under 40 minutes away by transit. A TTC streetcar stops in front of the building.

The 2026-27 housing agreement names Campus Living Centres as the residence manager for George Brown. Its rates are a special rate for full-time George Brown students.

What's in your suite

  • In the building: community kitchens with full-sized stoves, lounges, a study room, a fitness area and over 150 indoor bike spots.

2026-27 rates and payment options

The academic-year term runs September 5, 2026 to April 24, 2027. You can pay it in one, two or three instalments. The split plans add an administration fee, so they cost more in total.

How to pay, and what not to rely on

Pay by card through My Housing Portal, by online banking to the payee George Brown Polytechnic Residence, or by couriered certified cheque or money order. Don't use the George Brown Polytechnic payee; that one is for tuition. International students can email info@georgebrownresidence.ca for wire details.

The residence doesn't accept promissory notes against future OSAP funds. If you miss a payment deadline, your spot can go to someone on the waitlist.

How to apply

Apply through My Housing Portal. Your residence application is separate from your program application, and you can submit it before you're accepted to George Brown. Each application costs a non-refundable $100.00 fee, and an application without the fee isn't considered.

Spaces go first come, first served. George Brown says Winter 2027 applications open October 13, 2026. Winter spaces depend on how many students leave after the fall, so contact the residence if you're starting in January.

  • First acceptance emails for the academic year go out in April. After that, the residence updates applicants every 10 business days.
  • Your acceptance email asks for contact, health and payment details, roommate-matching answers and your signature on the Student Housing Agreement.
  • Room numbers are given on arrival, not before.
  • Summer needs a new application. Current residents who are taking spring classes can apply as a Returning Student and skip the $100 fee.

Cancelling costs more the later you leave

If you cancel or withdraw, you pay for the days you lived there plus a cancellation fee based on your total housing fees. Declining your George Brown offer doesn't cancel your residence application; cancel it separately in the portal.

For off-campus housing, George Brown partners with Places4Students for free listings and roommate matching. Its housing page adds a warning: Ontario's Residential Tenancies Act doesn't cover student residences such as The George.
