Ontario universities with an 80% average for 2027

An 80% average gives you Ontario options such as Carleton Commerce, Laurier Computer Science and TMU Biology. For Fall 2027 planning, Carleton's current Commerce cutoff label is 80%; Laurier CS says high 70s; TMU Biology lists 75-80%. Your required subjects still decide which choices fit.

Work out the average for the program you want

Start with your actual Grade 12 course list. Mark each course as required or optional for the degree you're considering. Carleton and TMU require six Grade 12 university or university and college preparation courses. You'll see those shortened to 4U and 4M. A school report that averages every subject can give a different result from a program's admission calculation.

Laurier says all prerequisite courses count in the admission average for the programs shown here. You can't remove a required science because an elective has a higher mark. Carleton also applies its published grade range to the prerequisite average. Write down both the overall result and the relevant subject marks. Use the Ontario admission averages hub to compare bands after you've checked this course set. That keeps your 80% attached to the right question. Keep school course names beside their codes. A similar name doesn't mean two courses satisfy the same prerequisite.

Read Carleton Commerce at the subject level

Carleton's current Ontario selector gives Commerce an 80% Cut off Range. It requires English and Advanced Functions. You also need Calculus and Vectors or Mathematics of Data Management; Calculus is recommended. The page sets a 60% floor for an individual prerequisite, while saying the range applies to both the overall and prerequisite averages. Those are separate checks.

If your overall result is 80% but your required subjects sit lower, don't assume you've met the full academic benchmark. Ask Carleton how it will assess your file. Its page says entry depends on the program and available places, and admission isn't guaranteed. The Carleton Commerce requirements guide has the detailed program checklist. Keep it beside your course plan. Carleton's BA has a different published label, 75%, so choose between these degrees by what you want to study. If you have both accepted mathematics options, ask which course the calculation will include. Don't choose the answer that makes your result look best.

Compare the two Laurier degrees by their science requirements

Laurier's Waterloo campus Computer Science page lists high 70s for both the BA and BSc. Both require English and Advanced Functions at 60%. The BSc adds one of Calculus and Vectors, Chemistry or Physics at 60%. Laurier includes those prerequisites in its average. Check the campus and degree on your application rather than borrowing a requirement from a different Laurier route.

Biology has another subject pattern. Its current average admission range is mid 70s. For the BA, the page asks for English at 60% and Biology at 70%. The BSc adds Advanced Functions and Chemistry at 60%. An overall 80% doesn't make those science requirements optional. Read the course choices in the Laurier program section. Both pages describe applying to co-op after first year. You still face that later selection even if you receive a degree offer. The BA and BSc can lead to different timetables. Compare their first-year science load before choosing the credential on the form.

At TMU, don't confuse the range with the floor

TMU's Business Management page shows a 70-75% grade range. Biology shows 75-80%. Each page explains that the range reflects previous years, while 70% overall establishes consideration. That doesn't make the lower number the mark needed for every future offer. The page says competition and available spaces can change the result. Keep both figures on your comparison sheet with their correct labels.

The subject checks differ too. Business Management needs English and one accepted mathematics course at 70% each. Its choices include Data Management, with Calculus preferred. Biology needs English and Advanced Functions plus two of Biology, Chemistry or Physics, all at 70%. A strong elective can't replace one of those required marks. Use the TMU university hub to reach the right program information before deciding which route fits your timetable. For Biology, list the two sciences you're presenting. Check each mark against the published floor instead of checking only their average.

Make a separate choice about Guelph co-op

Guelph Environmental Sciences publishes an estimated cut-off range of 75-80%. It says the estimate comes from admission averages in previous years. You need English and Advanced Functions, with two of Biology, Chemistry or Physics. The page recommends Biology and Chemistry, but it doesn't print a percentage floor for each subject. Don't add a subject minimum from another university.

The regular and co-op options deserve separate decisions. Guelph says co-op averages often exceed its estimated range. If you aren't admissible to co-op, you'll receive automatic consideration for the regular program. That is consideration, not an automatic offer. Read the Guelph Environmental Sciences requirements guide for the full route. Decide now whether you'd accept regular study. It prevents a later offer from forcing you to make that choice in a rush. Guelph notes that Environmental Sciences has a common first year, with major selection in second year. Read those later options before treating the entry name as your final choice of subject.

Keep your boundary choices clearly marked

At exactly 80%, Guelph Zoology sits at the lower edge of its 80-85% estimate. York Commerce says people in the low 80s or higher may be considered. Its separate 80% final average is a condition for keeping an offer. That figure doesn't replace York's admission guidance. If you include these choices, keep programs with lower published ranges on your list too.

Waterloo Honours Science says low 80s, without defining an exact numerical boundary. It requires English, Advanced Functions and Calculus at 70% each, plus two subjects from its published list. It's regular only. Don't rename it an 80% co-op option. The Waterloo university hub has the wider program context. A verbal band is useful for planning, but it can't establish your result in advance. A boundary choice can stay on your list if you want the course. It shouldn't become your only option.

Choose the next useful improvement in your marks

Find the requirement that's stopping you before choosing how to improve. You might lack a required course, fall below a subject floor, or sit near a program's estimated range. Those situations need different plans. Ask your guidance counsellor which courses are still possible in your timetable. Take the exact program requirement to that discussion so the advice matches your goal.

If you meet the course set, protect the marks that count in the assessed average. Keep studying for required subjects even when an elective feels easier to raise. Carleton says it reassesses conditional offers using final grades. Read your own offer carefully if one arrives. The target then becomes meeting its written conditions, not keeping a number from a general guide. Put those conditions where you can check them with your next school report. When you contact admissions, include the course code and degree. A general question about an 80% average can miss the issue.

Compare a real degree and a real budget

Your application list should contain courses you'd be willing to take. Open the first-year course list for each degree. If you want computing, a business program with a convenient range may still be a poor fit. If you prefer a broad arts degree, you don't need to choose science just because your marks meet its requirements.

Then price the places you could attend. The TMU tuition guide and Guelph tuition guide separate the main charges. Check your own travel and housing plan. Read Guelph residence information and Guelph financial aid where they apply. Use the year printed on a fee table. Don't treat a possible co-op job or an award you haven't received as money already available. Work through the same living arrangement for each option. Comparing one university with residence against another without housing won't show your real cost difference.

Give each Fall 2027 choice its own task list

Save the exact program name and campus beside your course check. Add the application date and any separate document tasks. Carleton's current Ontario page gives January 15, 2027 for the fall application. Its application deadline guide keeps the remaining dates together. A grade range doesn't excuse a missed application step.

Revisit your list when updated marks arrive. Keep any higher target you can justify, but retain choices you'd accept at your present result. Ask the university about a rule that remains unclear. Save the answer with your application notes. You don't need to predict every admission decision to make a sound plan. You need correct subjects and a list of degrees you would actually attend. Tell a parent or other supporter where the list is saved. Ask them to check the dates with you while you keep control of the application.
