Is the University of British Columbia hard to get into?

UBC can be competitive, with degree, campus and personal-profile review all shaping admission. Its 2025-26 report gives an average entering grade range of 89-91% at Vancouver and 85-87% at Okanagan across senior academic courses. A Fall 2027 applicant should check the chosen degree's subjects and selection steps before treating a percentage as a target.

The published grade profile describes the entering group

UBC's 2025-26 annual report gives an average entering grade range of 89-91% for Vancouver and 85-87% for Okanagan. It covers academic courses from the senior high school years. Keep that definition with the figures. That is a broader group of courses than an Ontario student's Top 6. Do not assume the two averages match.

The report also publishes campus Admit Rates: 60% for Vancouver and 76% for Okanagan in 2025/26. Table 1 covers all undergraduate year levels. It divides offers to the preferred program by completed applications. Our UBC acceptance-rate guide explains the report's figures and limits. Neither campus total tells you your chance for a specific degree.

These figures show a group with strong marks. Next, check the actual entry choice. Choose the campus and degree you want. Check whether your courses qualify. Find out what extra review your file needs. One school-wide percentage cannot answer all three. It also cannot settle a later major. Some majors need a further decision after you start.

Check degree-relevant courses as well as the overall record

UBC reviews Grade 11 and Grade 12 academic courses. It pays attention to subjects that relate to the degree. It also reviews course choices, including their breadth and challenge. Look at the whole record. Do not inspect only the six highest marks. A strong unrelated elective does not erase a weak required subject.

Use the Canadian high school requirements tool with Ontario, the intended campus and the correct degree selected. Read both the general rules and the degree's own course list. If the page provides a basic minimum, preserve that minimum label. A basic minimum is not a promised winning mark. It does not guarantee entry to every program in every cycle.

A student interested in Science, Applied Science, Commerce or Arts needs to check that degree's own subjects. Do not carry a business maths rule into Engineering. Science routes can also have different later choices. Check before you change or drop a course. It may be needed for more than one of your degree choices.

The personal profile adds context but no fixed grade-point bonus

Most high school applicants need the personal profile, with the exceptions set out in UBC's instructions. The profile adds a different part of the review from your marks. The report says UBC looks at what you have done and learned. Your experiences and challenges matter alongside your course work. Meeting the course list does not make a required profile optional. Sending a profile does not replace a missing required course.

The checked sources do not publish a rule that a profile recovers two, three or five percentage points. Do not build a plan around that exchange. Read the official criteria. Complete the requested responses yourself. Use your own words for your own experiences and circumstances. Follow UBC's stated process and limits.

UBC's education-agent policy is explicit: agents cannot write or assist in writing a personal profile. The planning offered through this page concerns public courses, degree choices, dates and costs. It does not include profile writing or answer help. Keep that boundary clear. Buying a response package cannot promise an offer.

A Vancouver Science offer leaves a later specialization choice

For the Vancouver BSc route, first enter the degree. Entry to a specialization comes later. Science students start without a specialization. They apply later, once they meet the course and year-standing rules. Computer Science is one goal that needs this second check. The high school offer alone does not assign the major.

Science first checks whether you can apply. It then uses ranked choices, the relevant Winter Session average and space. The course page has two different lists. One lists what you need to apply for a specialization. The other lists all first-year courses needed to finish that degree plan. Read both when you choose courses. Not every first-year course is needed at the same entry stage.

The detailed list is labelled Spring 2026, and the site says the application will reopen in May 2027. That reopening is for current university students. It does not confirm every later rule or threshold for someone who first enters UBC in Fall 2027. Use the instructions for the cycle when you can apply. Keep more than one subject plan you would accept.

Which UBC programs are hardest depends on the selection stage

The campus averages and Admit Rates do not rank every degree. Each route has its own demands. Check required courses, grade review, the profile and any later selection. A Science applicant planning for CS should include later specialization entry in the plan. For Commerce or Applied Science, read that degree's own rules instead.

UBC allows first and second degree choices, with campus and program options explained on its degree-choice page. Use that space for choices you would actually pursue. Read the courses and later options at each campus. Choose a second degree that fits your interests and course record. Do not treat it only as a route to another offer.

Treat an Okanagan choice as an Okanagan degree plan. Read the transfer rules before you rely on changing campus later. Okanagan's higher broad Admit Rate is not a promise for every program. It also does not promise a later Vancouver place.

A workable plan when you are below the reported grade profile

If your marks are two to five points below a reported profile band, first check whether you are comparing the same measure. UBC's report uses senior academic course work. Your school or another university may select six courses instead. Then check the actual degree requirements. An old entering average cannot tell you whether you meet today's entry rules.

Identify the required subjects and relevant course groups that need improvement. Review the Grade 12 work still in progress and the official reporting dates. Ask the school and UBC about any unusual course history before relying on a repeat or a changed curriculum. Make a plan from the courses UBC reviews. Do not create an average that hides a weak required subject.

Keep a genuine mix of degree or campus choices that you can qualify for and would want to study. Read the first-year subjects, later major rules and costs for each one. An alternate does not solve the problem if it only works through an unconfirmed future transfer. Consider another school too. Check that its program and course rules suit your goal.

Send all needed information, on time and without errors. Write the personal profile yourself. UBC can review your context. That does not give one experience or profile style a set value in grade points. Keep real alternatives while UBC reviews the full file. The campus totals cannot supply your personal chance of an offer.

Keep the application date separate from later documents and awards

UBC's named Fall 2027 calendar gives January 15, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. PST as the general application deadline. The time zone matters for an Ontario applicant. Put that date beside the actual degree choice, then read the calendar's separate document, award and program-specific rows. Sending the application is one task. It does not finish every later condition or request.

Use the UBC deadline guide to organize the public schedule and verify the instructions for your school system. Follow any document request UBC sends you. This page cannot see your private checklist. It cannot confirm that UBC has received and accepted your transcript or profile.

Allow time for school reporting and technical issues. If a degree has another assessment or document requirement, record it separately. Keep proof of what you submitted and use the official channel for questions. A complete file gives UBC the facts it needs for review. It does not guarantee a place or reserve a later major.

Budget by campus, degree and fee status

The Vancouver 2026-27 calendar lists domestic Arts and Science tuition at $206.69 per credit. That is a credit rate, not a complete annual cost. Your program and course load determine how it applies. Add student charges, books, housing and food. Other programs and fee groups can have different rates.

Ontario high school study does not itself decide whether someone pays domestic fees. Check the eligibility category and campus before using a number. The UBC tuition guide keeps those differences visible. Approved Fall 2027 prices remain pending in the current reference, so refresh the budget when the relevant new schedule is published and before paying.

Use the UBC residence chapter and financial-aid chapter for the rest of the decision. Co-op entry, work sequences and employer offers vary by faculty and campus. An entry offer does not include a paid job. Do not assume it includes enough funding for the full degree. Confirm those parts of the plan separately.
