Read the credit load before the annual price

A tuition total only makes sense beside its credit load. UBC Vancouver's published Arts and Science examples each use 30 credits. Engineering uses 37 in its first year. The domestic per-credit rate is the same for these first-year routes, but the larger Engineering load produces a larger bill. Our arithmetic checks are $206.69 × 30 = $6,200.70 and $206.69 × 37 = $7,647.53.

Okanagan Engineering has a different first-year timetable. Its calendar lists 36 credits. Using the published domestic rate gives $206.69 × 36 = $7,440.84, our calculation. This is why a Vancouver annual Engineering price shouldn't be copied into an Okanagan budget. Check the courses you'll actually take before you decide that one campus is cheaper.

Commerce also changes with year level. Vancouver domestic Year 1 uses $206.69 per credit. Years 2 to 4 use $306.28 in the current schedule. That gives $306.28 × 30 = $9,188.40, our calculation matching UBC's full-load figure. See the UBC Sauder requirements guide and UBC Engineering guide for the academic routes.

Choose the right citizenship band and entry cohort

UBC assesses domestic fees for Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Its policy also lists refugee status and certain other exceptions. An Ontario address doesn't create a separate tuition band in the checked UBC schedule. If your status changes, report it to Enrolment Services with the required documents. The date of the change and the document deadline affect which term can receive domestic rates.

International prices in our main table belong to the cohort starting in 2026 Summer or 2026-27 Winter. They are not the prices for every continuing student. The calendar has separate columns for earlier entry years. Select your start year before multiplying the rate by your credits. A friend's older fee assessment may be accurate for that friend and still be wrong for you.

For the 2026-27 entering cohort, UBC caps annual tuition increases at 3% for the subsequent four years or until graduation from the current degree, whichever comes first. This doesn't fix your whole bill. A change in credits or program can alter tuition, and housing has a separate schedule. The UBC hub helps you compare campuses. The BIE guide explains the higher-priced International Economics route.

Add student fees and keep health plans separate

Tuition is only the course charge. Student fees fund services, societies and transit. Some are annual, some are charged each term, and some change with your degree or course load. Our fee table shows the latest calendar amounts. The general tables don't state an academic year, so their October 13, 2026 check date isn't proof of a 2027-28 price.

The Vancouver Alma Mater Society (AMS) collects its membership and service fees. Okanagan's Students' Union has a different fee list. Don't carry a Vancouver union total into Kelowna. For the Arts example, the other annual AMS charges add to $236.20, our calculation: $12 + $5 + $21 + $0.36 + $1.37 + $18.58 + $0.87 + $0.47 + $1 + $6.96 + $13.16 + $100 + $1.74 + $1.18 + $25 + $1.18 + $2.14 + $4.52 + $7.12 + $4 + $8.55 = $236.20.

Extended health and dental coverage is separate from basic medical insurance. New international students also need to plan for iMED and the later basic coverage that applies to them. Having a parent's extended plan may let you opt out of the student plan with proof. It doesn't automatically remove basic-cover requirements.

The published change-of-coverage dates are September 28, 2026 for September entrants and January 25, 2027 for January entrants. These aren't Fall 2027 dates. Follow the plan's rules and pay assessed fees while an opt-out is pending.

Compare a room with the food it requires

The checked Vancouver first-year room-and-meal examples run from $12,153.32 for Totem Park compact shared to $18,137.32 for an Orchard Commons single with a private bathroom. The room makes most of that difference. Both include the same full-session $7,712.32 meal plan. At Totem, its published parts are $7,210.56 in all-access dining and $501.76 in Flex Dollars.

Okanagan's traditional fee pages publish a package with mandatory meals already inside it. Similkameen lists $14,178.02. Traditional semi-private areas list full-session packages from $15,367.02 to $16,841.02 across their room types. Adding another meal allowance to those packages would count food twice. Monashee's listed $8,164 to $12,010 room range excludes meals. Its lower room-only price therefore doesn't answer the same budget question.

Room availability and eligibility still matter. Read the UBC residence guide, Vancouver first-year residence comparison and Okanagan residence options. The checked fee tables don't publish 2027-28 room or meal prices. Their instalments are parts of the contract total, not extra charges on top of it.

Use the worked example as a priced subtotal

The example above assumes domestic Arts tuition, a Totem Park single and two Winter terms of eligible Vancouver transit. It includes the listed annual student fees without an opt-out. The $23,230.30 result is our sum of published lines, not a total quoted by UBC. No scholarship is assumed. Choosing another room, course load or degree changes the result.

The student-fee arithmetic combines athletics, AMS membership, health and dental, transit, the other annual AMS fees, and the Arts society and building fees. A final-year graduating fee doesn't belong in a first-year example. The $500 domestic acceptance deposit is credited to tuition, so adding it to the annual tuition again would overstate the cost.

Books, equipment, travel and personal spending are outside this subtotal. UBC's budgeting page directs you to its cost estimator and Bookstore for textbook planning. We couldn't fetch the linked Bookstore page, so no flat book allowance is inserted. Price your actual course list and any required access codes. Save that separate amount beside the subtotal before you decide how much funding you need.

Plan deposits and tuition payment dates

The checked campus calendars give September 9, 2026 and January 6, 2027 as the 2026-27 Winter tuition payment dates. Most student fees fall in the first instalment. Term 2 course tuition falls in the second. Housing has its own payment schedule, so a paid tuition balance doesn't settle a room-and-meal bill.

The current standard acceptance deposit is $500 for a new domestic undergraduate and $3,000 for a new international undergraduate. Both are credited toward assessed tuition. Your offer letter gives the acceptance deadline. UBC's Fall 2027 calendar lists May 1 or June 1, 2027 for most offers, but directs you to your assigned date. A deposit is usually non-refundable. The international study-permit refusal exception refunds it less a $150 processing fee when its conditions are met.

Online banking takes two to three business days to appear in Workday, and UBC says it honours the payment date. Credit cards carry a 2.65% convenience fee, with a $3 minimum. Visa Debit or Mastercard Debit carry 1.65%, also with a $3 minimum. These fees are non-refundable. Compare the payment method before sending money. UBC processes tuition and fees nightly, so a registration change may appear the following day.

Check refunds before dropping a course

For standard credit-based courses, UBC refunds 100% of the tuition for credits dropped by the last day to drop without a W standing. A W records a withdrawal on your academic record. The next seven calendar days refund 50%. Days eight to fourteen refund 25%. After that, the standard schedule gives no tuition refund.

A shorter course can have a shorter refund timetable. Some programs pay instalment-based tuition and use a different refund ladder. Look up the exact course and its dates before acting. A deadline to withdraw academically can be later than the deadline to get money back. Treat those as separate decisions.

An acceptance deposit doesn't become refundable because you later leave a course. Student fees also have their own adjustment and opt-out rules. Review both the academic effect and the financial effect with UBC before changing your registration. The date UBC records the drop or withdrawal controls the tuition calculation.

Separate awards from the amount you owe

Ontario students apply for government aid through their home province. The OSAP guide explains the Ontario Student Assistance Program. UBC's other-provinces page gives eligible full-time loan applicants a one-month tuition deferral after the fee deadline. Its complete-application cut-offs are July 31 for September loans, November 15 for January loans and April 15 for May loans. Confirm the deferral on your account.

For Fall 2027, UBC recommends July 25, 2027 for Canadian and provincial loan applications. That earlier planning date supports funds arriving for September and bursary eligibility. The admissions calendar gives September 15, 2027 as the general bursary deadline. The detailed bursary page still shows the 2026-27 opening window, so a Fall 2027 opening date remains unconfirmed.

To get a bursary, you need an eligible full-time government loan for at least 12 consecutive weeks. Your loan enrolment must be confirmed by the deadline, and you must show unmet need. This doesn't promise that every cost will be covered. For Presidential Scholars consideration, Canadian citizens and permanent residents apply by December 1, 2026 and opt in. The UBC financial-aid guide and Presidential Scholars guide explain the full award rules.

Two merit awards have automatic consideration for eligible international entrants who apply by the admission deadline. IMES means International Major Entrance Scholarship. OIS means Outstanding International Student. IMES lists $10,000 to $25,000 a year for 2026-27. The OIS range still says 2025-26. At Okanagan, the Global Elevation Award is $8,000. The $5,000 Welcome Award needs a first-choice Okanagan degree and 24 Winter credits. The $6,000 Commerce Launch Award covers September 2027 entrants. These aren't approved tuition prices. Wait for your award letter before you deduct an award.

What still needs a Fall 2027 recheck

On October 13, 2026, the checked approved tuition schedules still cover 2026-27. UBC's 2027-28 engagement publishes proposed changes subject to Board approval. Approved 2027-28 tuition, housing prices and the bursary opening date remain unconfirmed. Recheck these on February 1, 2027 and before accepting an offer. The UBC admissions page and Canadian application deadlines cover application timing.

One source difference also matters: UBC's general budgeting page quotes a $43.35 monthly U-Pass, while the Vancouver calendar lists $191.40 per term. Our fee table uses the calendar charge and keeps its unit visible. Direct downloads of several Student Services pages were blocked, but their official page content was read through web fetch and calendar pages were fetched directly. The linked Bookstore page remained blocked. No book price is inferred from it.
