Program application guide
McMaster Health Sciences Requirements 2027 | BHSc
McMaster's Honours Health Sciences Level I program requires a minimum 90% average for consideration, six specific Ontario Grade 12 U/M courses, and a mandatory supplementary application. The official page reports more than 8,000 applicants annually for 240 places, but a high average alone does not guarantee admission. For Fall 2027, the prompt PDF and McMaster-specific dates still say “Coming Soon,” so this guide separates confirmed requirements from unpublished details.

Fall 2027 applicant update
McMaster Health Sciences requirements and supplement status
Fast answer: Ontario applicants need at least 90% for consideration, six specific Grade 12 U/M courses, and the mandatory Honours Health Sciences supplementary application. McMaster's official 2027 prompt PDF, application deadline, supplement window, and offer date currently say “Coming Soon.” OUAC separately lists January 15, 2027 as the Group A completed-application deadline.
Academic threshold
McMaster publishes a minimum 90% secondary-school average for consideration. Reaching 90% does not guarantee admission.
Current demand and capacity
The official Level I page reports more than 8,000 applicants annually for 240 places. Do not turn that snapshot into a guaranteed personal probability.
What is assessed
Final and interim Grade 12 results are considered together with the supplementary-application score after the academic and course requirements are satisfied.
Who reviews
Faculty, staff, and Level IV students score applications. Each submission has multiple reviewers, with another reviewer assigned when scores differ significantly.
What students study in McMaster Health Sciences
The program decision is broader than its supplementary application. Compare McMaster's inquiry-based learning model, first-year structure, elective room, and alternatives before treating BHSc as a fit.
Degree and entry
Direct Level I entry to McMaster's interdisciplinary Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences program. Upper-year and transfer routes use separate rules.
Learning model
Inquiry, interdisciplinary problem solving, self-directed learning, collaboration, and reflection sit alongside foundational health and science study.
First-year planning
Read the current course structure and elective space before applying; the BHSc learning model is materially different from a conventional lecture-heavy science gateway.
Medicine boundary
The degree can support many future paths, but it is not a required pre-med credential and does not guarantee medical-school admission.
Ontario prerequisites for McMaster BHSc Level I
The six courses below are McMaster's current published minimum for Ontario secondary-school applicants. Co-op courses cannot be used. Applicants from another curriculum should use McMaster's jurisdiction-specific requirements or ask the admissions office for a written course ruling.
| Requirement | Ontario course | Planning note |
|---|---|---|
| English | One Grade 12 U English course | Required within the six Grade 12 U/M courses. |
| Biology | One Grade 12 U Biology course | Required program prerequisite. |
| Chemistry | One Grade 12 U Chemistry course | Required program prerequisite. |
| Mathematics | One of Advanced Functions, Calculus and Vectors, or Data Management | Only one of the three is required for the published Level I minimum. |
| Breadth course | One Grade 12 U/M course that is not math, science, or technology | Use McMaster's live course-code search if eligibility is unclear. |
| Additional course | One additional Grade 12 U/M course | Completes the six-course academic set. |

- 06Supplement portalSubmit inside the assigned window. McMaster states that portal access is time limited and extensions are not granted for a missed deadline.

McMaster's supplement integrity rules
These rules materially limit what an adviser, consultant, peer, or AI tool may do. Stellar's public guide and planning workspace can organize requirements, dates, portal checks, and alternative programs; they must not discuss, draft, rewrite, or edit an applicant's responses.
- Responses must be entirely the applicant's own work.
- McMaster says discussion with other people, including current program students, is not permitted.
- Paid admissions consultants, generative AI, plagiarism, and posting draft or final answers online are prohibited.
- Do not put your name or enough identifying detail in a response for a reader to find you through a web search.
- Informal narrative attribution is acceptable when using another person's words or a specific fact; a formal academic citation style is not required.
- Reviewers are told to overlook occasional minor typos unless errors impede understanding or reveal a pervasive communication problem.
- A résumé, CV, activity list, or other additional material is neither required nor accepted for Level I selection.
What the supplement is designed to show
McMaster describes the supplement as a way to see critical thinking, self-examination, experiences, thought processes, and information that grades do not reveal. It is not an extracurricular competition or a request for every answer to be about medicine. The official page says grades and the supplement score are the selection elements, and it does not accept extra résumés or activity files.
Keep the degree decision separate from medicine
McMaster BHSc is one undergraduate curriculum, not a medical-school prerequisite or guaranteed route. Compare it with other programs by courses, assessment style, flexibility, cost, research, and backup careers using the Canadian health sciences and pre-med guide.
Compare Queen's Health Sciences
Queen's uses different prerequisites, routes, deadlines, curriculum, and a Kira written-and-video supplement. Review the Queen's Health Sciences requirements guide with the same source-first decision criteria.
Use only the live 2027 questions and limits
McMaster's current 2027 question PDF contains a “Coming Soon” placeholder. Prior-cycle prompts, question counts, response choices, and character limits are historical examples—not confirmed 2027 instructions.
The program says questions are posted in September and Level I applicants receive submission instructions by email in January. Monitor the official Level I page, prompt PDF, applicant portal, and the email address used on OUAC.
Understand the selection boundary
McMaster describes the supplement as an opportunity to demonstrate critical thinking and self-examination and to share experiences or thought processes not visible in a transcript. Grades and the supplementary score are the selection elements.
No CV, résumé, activity list, reference, or other additional material is required or accepted. Do not force a medicine theme into an answer or treat extracurricular prestige as an unofficial selection category.
Keep responses entirely independent
McMaster says applicants may not discuss responses with others, including current students, and may not use paid admissions consultants, generative AI, plagiarism, or online answer sharing. The final work must be entirely the applicant's own.
Planning support should stop at public requirements, dates, portal checks, technical readiness, and alternative-program comparison. It must not extend to interpreting a live prompt with the applicant, suggesting answer content, drafting, rewriting, or editing.
Prepare the submission process without touching the answer
Use an applicant-controlled checklist for OUAC submission, acknowledgement email, portal access, course and grade verification, prompt release, instruction email, technical checks, and submission confirmation. McMaster says portal access is time limited and does not grant extensions for a missed deadline.
If a technical problem occurs, contact the program helpdesk before the deadline. Do not identify yourself inside a response, and avoid details that would let a reviewer discover your identity through a web search.
Compare undergraduate alternatives on their own merits
McMaster BHSc is not a required pre-med degree or a guaranteed route to medicine. Compare health sciences, life sciences, integrated science, medical sciences, nursing, kinesiology, social science, and other options by curriculum, assessment, flexibility, cost, research, and viable non-medical careers.
Medical and professional schools publish their own course, GPA, test, experience, and eligibility rules. Work backward from those requirements instead of choosing an undergraduate title on reputation alone.
