Ontario universities with a 90% average for 2027
For Fall 2027, a 90% average meets McMaster Health Sciences' published consideration minimum and sits within several Waterloo Engineering ranges. Queen's Commerce lists 90+ in its prior-year guidance. Waterloo Computer Science's low to mid-90s range and Ivey AEO's low 90% profile need closer program review.

Key facts
- A minimum is a floor
- McMaster Health Sciences' 90% minimum establishes consideration, not an offer.
- Program ranges differ
- Waterloo Engineering groups disciplines under different minimum competitive averages.
- Keep the measure
- Queen's prior-year consideration figure isn't an entering-class mean or a final 2027 cutoff.
- Finish the process
- Required subjects and supplements remain separate checks even with a 90% average.
What a 90% average meets and what still needs review
Keep the university’s exact grade label beside its subject and selection rules.

Use your 90% to compare the right kind of requirement
A 90% average can open a wider comparison, but the label beside a grade still matters. A consideration minimum sets an academic floor. A competitive range describes the marks the school tells you to plan around. A historical figure describes an earlier group or selection cycle. None of those labels automatically becomes your personal chance of an offer.
Start by writing down the named degree and campus. Then copy the official label beside its grade. McMaster Health Sciences and Waterloo Computer Science illustrate why this helps: one prints a 90% minimum, while the other uses individual selection from the low to mid-90s. Use the Ontario averages hub to compare bands. Keep your detailed program notes separate. You'll make a stronger list if each choice has a reason beyond the fact that its number looks close to your average. Compare your own calculated admission average with that program's rule. Don't use an average that leaves out a compulsory subject.

Waterloo Engineering has more than one competitive range
Mechanical, Computer, Biomedical, Mechatronics and Systems Design Engineering share a high 80s to low 90s minimum competitive range. Electrical and Software Engineering show low to mid-90s. Other listed disciplines, including Civil and Environmental Engineering, show mid- to high 80s. These groups let you compare subjects you actually want. They don't rank your ability or promise an outcome at a precise mark.
For Ontario entry, check English and the required mathematics and sciences. The table asks for Physics, Chemistry, Advanced Functions and Calculus as well as English, within six Grade 12 U/M courses. It prints a 70% minimum in each unless otherwise stated. A 90% overall mark can hide a weak prerequisite. Read the Waterloo Engineering requirements guide for the full discipline detail. The faculty also reviews the Admission Information Form and interview, so meeting a grade description doesn't finish the application.

Check what you want from a Waterloo computing choice
Waterloo Computer Science calls its admission average individual selection from the low to mid-90s. It doesn't print an exact 90% cutoff. Ontario requirements include Advanced Functions, Calculus and Vectors, a Grade 12 U English and another 4U course. You need those within the six-course qualification. The AIF is required, and the faculty-specific form checklist still applies even when your marks look strong.
Don't choose a different degree only because it shares the university name. Accounting and Financial Management lists mid-80s, with 75% in English, Advanced Functions and Calculus. It's an accounting and finance degree with a co-op-only route. The AFM requirements guide explains that choice. If you want CS, use the CS and Software Engineering comparison to understand those distinct programs. An application to one degree should not depend on an assumed future move into another. If you're comparing two programs, make a separate course checklist for each one. A shared campus doesn't make their subjects interchangeable.

McMaster Health Sciences uses 90% as a consideration minimum
McMaster Honours Health Sciences sets a minimum secondary school average of 90%. It says meeting the academic requirements doesn't ensure admission. Final or interim Grade 12 marks are reviewed with the supplementary application. At exactly 90%, the useful conclusion is that you've reached the printed overall floor. You still need the full subject set and the required supplement.
The Ontario set includes English, Biology and Chemistry. You also need one of Advanced Functions, Calculus or Data Management. Another required credit must sit outside maths, science and technology, with one further Grade 12 U/M course. Don't overlook that outside-subject condition when picking your strongest marks. The McMaster Health Sciences guide has the program detail. Its supplement rules prohibit discussing responses with others, using admissions consultants for answers, or using generative AI. Write your responses independently and follow the school's current instructions. If you need help understanding a course requirement, ask about that rule. Keep the supplementary responses out of that discussion.

Queen’s Commerce needs its prior-year label kept intact
Queen's central competitive-average page lists Commerce at 90+. It describes the table as the minimum average for admission consideration for September of last year. That sentence doesn't name the year of the September cohort. Treat it as a prior-year figure, not a confirmed Fall 2027 cutoff. The page says minimum averages can change and may be higher than published.
The Ontario prerequisite page adds a separate check. Commerce requires English and Calculus, plus another Grade 12 U mathematics course. Each of those three courses needs at least 80%. A mandatory supplementary application is also part of selection. Your overall 90% can't replace a missing course or that form. Use the Queen's Commerce requirements guide. If your interest is Computing or Engineering instead, return to those named program requirements rather than carrying the Commerce figure across the university.

Ivey AEO combines an academic profile with a separate decision
Ivey describes a competitive AEO application as including a low 90% average in your best Grade 12 courses, with English included. It also asks for a Grade 12 university-preparation maths or provincial equivalent. Leadership matters: Ivey says academic performance and leadership experience carry equal weight. The published profile doesn't turn a 90% average into automatic AEO status.
AEO is conditional pre-admission to the HBA program. You first enter Western or an eligible affiliate in a program for your initial university years. The AEO application is separate, and Ivey says it makes a separate decision from Western admission. Progression requirements still apply after you receive the status. Read the Ivey AEO application guide and Queen's Commerce versus Ivey comparison. Choose a first university program you'd be willing to study while you work toward those later conditions. AEO status doesn't replace the admission requirements of the Western program you first choose. Check those independently.

Don’t turn an entrant average into a cutoff
An entering-class mean answers a different question from a minimum for consideration. A mean describes the grades of a defined group that enrolled. It doesn't tell you the lowest successful mark, every offer made, or what the next applicant needs. If you see an entrant figure elsewhere, keep its year and population beside it before comparing it with your own marks.
The figures in this table keep the measures their sources actually publish. Queen's 90+ row is a prior-year consideration figure. Ivey's low 90% is a competitive profile. Waterloo Engineering publishes discipline ranges and says there's no absolute cutoff. Don't rename any of these an entering average or an acceptance rate. You can use them to build a sensible list without calculating personal odds. Record what remains uncertain and ask the admissions office about your exact course situation when needed.

Finish the required forms on the program’s own calendar
For Fall 2027, Waterloo lists January 15 for Engineering applications and February 1 for documents and required forms. Its main first-year row for other programs lists February 1 applications and February 15 documents. If you apply to Engineering and Mathematics, the earlier Engineering form deadline applies. Use the Waterloo deadline guide to keep the rows straight.
The AIF page's detailed Engineering instructions say the interview is required. A related-article teaser on that page still calls it optional. Follow the detailed program checklist, which says the interview is required. Queen's Commerce lists February 1, 2027 for applications and February 15 for its supplement. Ivey AEO lists January 15, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. EST for its separate application. Strong grades don't submit any form for you. Leave time to read the instructions and complete your own work. Save each submission confirmation and check for missing tasks. A saved draft isn't the same as a completed form.

Keep an affordable choice you would actually attend
Build your list around degrees you want and costs you can carry. A program with a lower published range can remain a good choice at 90%. Read its first-year classes and later structure before deciding. For AFM, for example, co-op is part of the study route. Don't assume every business or science degree uses the same work calendar.
Use the Waterloo tuition guide alongside Waterloo financial aid and its residence information. Keep the price year attached to each figure you use. Explore the Queen's university hub for another full-campus comparison. When an offer arrives, read its academic conditions and costs together. Your final choice needs to fit the course you'll take and the resources you can use, not just the highest admission label on your list. Discuss the final bill with whoever will help fund it before you make a deposit or commit to housing.
