Burman publishes no undergraduate application deadline for any cycle. Its live academic-dates page still runs only through the 2026–2027 year. That page ends with a Winter 2027 last day of classes on April 12. Its current calendar edition is the 2026/27 Academic Calendar. The only Fall 2027 date Burman prints anywhere is on the offer-of-admission page. That page lets an admitted student defer to September 2027/28.
Do not wait for a Burman deadline announcement that may never come. For most applicants, the binding Fall 2027 date is the February 1 Early Admission Tuition Scholarship cut-off. International applicants should assume an early-May document and financial-clearance date. This is by analogy with May 8, 2026.

The Academic Calendar states Burman is authorized by Alberta's Minister of Advanced Education. This is on the recommendation of the Campus Alberta Quality Council. The authorization covers one-year certificates. It also covers two-year Bachelor of Education after-degree programs. It covers three-year BSc and BA degrees. It also covers four-year BA, BBA, BEd, BMus, and BSc degrees. These are under the Post-Secondary Learning Act. The Adventist Accrediting Association separately accredits programs.
The authorisation is degree-type by degree-type. It is not a blanket approval. It says nothing about professional licensure. This covers nursing, teaching, or psychology. Check each regulator separately.

Third-party sites quote Burman enrolment and acceptance-rate figures. None trace back to Burman. Use the published course-and-grade criteria to judge your chances, not a scraped percentage.

From Alberta Industrial Academy to Burman University

The Academic Calendar traces the institution to a Seventh-day Adventist school. It was founded near Leduc in 1907 and moved to the Lacombe hilltop in 1909. A junior college was authorised in 1919. A four-year theology program followed in 1947. It operated as Canadian Union College from 1947 to 1997. It ran a Partner Campus Agreement with Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska from 1979 through the 2007/08 academic year. It became Canadian University College in 1997. It was renamed Burman University in 2014 after the province allowed the removal of 'College'. This honoured founders Charles and Leona Burman.

Lacombe, Alberta and the physical campus

Burman sits at 6730 University Drive in Lacombe, Alberta. It is on a hilltop with more than 1,200 acres of surrounding farmland. The university identifies this land as the hereditary Indigenous land of Treaty Six Territory. The original secondary school still operates on the same site as Parkview Adventist Academy.
Lacombe is a small central-Alberta town between Edmonton and Calgary. There is no urban transit network. There is no large employer base within walking distance. There is no second university in town. Plan transport and part-time work accordingly.

Burman describes its general admission policy as non-competitive. Students who meet the published criteria can expect admission. Program prerequisites still matter. An applicant should not treat a minimum as an offer before the file is reviewed.

Fall 2027 deadline status
A complete Fall 2027 application-deadline table is not yet published. Burman publishes no undergraduate application deadline for any cycle. The February 1 date belongs to the Early Admission Tuition Scholarship. That date is what actually forces the timeline. The May 8, 2026 document and financial-clearance date belongs only to non-US international applicants for Fall 2026. The only Fall 2027 date Burman prints anywhere is the September 2027/28 deferral option on its offer page.

Apply through ApplyAlberta. Alberta transcripts can move through the provincial system. If you were educated elsewhere, you may submit an unofficial copy for review. But final official transcripts must be sent directly by the issuing institution before classes begin.

Both nursing articulation agreements in the 2026–2027 Academic Calendar require no grade lower than 65% in the listed subjects. Burman's Ontario page repeats that all nursing prerequisite courses need a minimum 65%. These are English 4U, an approved advanced mathematics course, Biology 4U, and Chemistry 4U. Burman 100-numbered courses may not be substituted for high school prerequisites. Applicants must present the high school courses or equivalents at the time of admission.

For Fall intake, international students other than United States applicants must have all documents submitted by 08 May 2026. They must also have financial clearance arranged by 08 May 2026. That is a Fall 2026 date. The Academic Calendar adds that United States applicants must meet all admission and financial requirements before an official letter of acceptance is issued. They must present proof of acceptance, identity, and financial support at the border.
Burman has not published the Fall 2027 equivalent. Treat early May 2027 as the working planning date and confirm with Admissions before booking anything.

English proficiency scores, and one score that cannot be right

Burman lists IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 83 internet-based or 560 paper-based, CAEL 70, Cambridge B2 First / C1 Advanced / C2 Proficiency 176, PTE Academic 58, and Duolingo 110. The same page then states that tests written after January 21, 2026 must have a minimum score of 4.50—a figure that matches no published TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo scale.
The 4.50 line sits directly beneath the TOEFL 83 line and contradicts it. Get the requirement for your test date in writing from Admissions before you book a sitting.

Burman waives the test for official transcripts showing English 30-1 or a provincial equivalent at a minimum 60%; for an English literature course completed at an accredited Canadian, American, British, or Australian post-secondary institution with a grade of C or higher; or for one year of full-time study at an accredited secondary or post-secondary institution where the language of instruction is English, achieving a cumulative 60% or a minimum 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, in a designated English-speaking country. What happens when you miss a prerequisite

Applicants with one or two deficiencies can receive Probationary Admission. The rules are a maximum 12 credits in the first term and a minimum 2.00 GPA (2.50 for some programs). You must clear the missing high school prerequisite within the first year. You can clear it by a high school course at 60% or by a Burman 100-numbered course at C- or better. Probationary students may not withdraw from any course in their first semester. Failing a course or missing the Admissions Committee's conditions may lead to academic dismissal. The alternative is regular admission into a program whose prerequisites you do satisfy, such as General Arts or General Science.
Probationary Admission may extend your graduation date. It is a real second chance, but it is not a soft landing—the no-withdrawal rule removes the usual escape hatch from a course that is going badly.

Mature and home-schooled applicants

Mature applicants must be 21 or older. They must be out of high school for at least two years. They must present either English 30-1 or equivalent at a minimum 60%. Or they must present a GED with an average score of 150 and no individual score below 145. They must still meet program-specific prerequisites. They may be required to complete upgrading courses. Home-schooled applicants with a provincially issued diploma from an accredited program are evaluated like any high school graduate. Others present standardized test scores such as Alberta diploma exams, SAT, ACT, or a GED. Unaccredited programs are reviewed case by case.

Transfer, AP, and IB ceilings

Burman caps transfer credit at 60 credits into a four-year program. It caps transfer credit at 45 credits into a three-year program. It also caps transfer credit at 50% of the credits required for any major, concentration, or specialization. Advanced Placement needs a minimum grade of 4 before transfer credit is considered. International Baccalaureate needs a minimum of 5. The minimum grade accepted for transfer is whatever the receiving degree section requires for that course.

Burman states there is no deadline to accept your offer of admission. Canadian students pay a confirmation deposit invoiced by Student Financial Services. International students pay full first-semester fees. The Academic Calendar allows deferral for up to one full academic year from the term of original admission. The offer page currently offers deferral to January 2026/27 or September 2027/28. New students then complete CUE Quest Complete University Experience. That is the orientation week before classes begin.

Burman's site currently marks English and Outdoor Leadership as suspended, so they are not presented here as active application choices. Degree names and tracks should be checked against the academic calendar for the entry year.
Arts, society, and faith
Behavioural Science (BHSc), General Arts (BA), International Studies (BA), and Religious Studies (three- or four-year BA routes).
Science and health
Biology is a three- or four-year BSc with multiple tracks. General Science is a BSc. Psychology is a three- or four-year BSc with certificate options. Wellness is a BSc. The Health Sciences certificate is used for the Kettering Nursing transfer route.
Business and Education
Business (three-year BA or four-year BBA with Accounting, Human Resource Management, International Management, Management, or Marketing tracks) and Bachelor of Education or BEd After-Degree routes.
Music

Nursing is not a direct Burman University BSN
Admission is to the Certificate in Health Sciences. Students complete a Fall–Winter–Fall sequence at Burman and then transfer. The 2026–2027 Academic Calendar publishes two agreements. Kettering College in Ohio has 127 credits total and 46 at Burman. It requires a cumulative 2.80 with no grade below C. It gives a 25% Kettering tuition discount for two years. Southwestern Adventist University in Texas has 125 credits total and a minimum 3.0 GPA. Burman's public nursing pages show only the Kettering route. They state 45 Burman credits where the calendar says 46. The BSN is awarded by the American partner, not Burman. Study authorization and Canadian licensure require separate planning.

Burman's academics listing marks English (BA four-year and three-year) and Outdoor Leadership (BA three-year and four-year) as Program Suspended. They still appear in the catalogue, so they can be mistaken for live application choices.
With 35 full-time professors, program suspension is a live risk rather than a rare event. Ask Admissions in writing whether your intended major is guaranteed to run through your graduation year.

The 2026–2027 Academic Calendar publishes two articulated BSN agreements from the Certificate in Health Sciences: one with Kettering College in Kettering, Ohio, and one with Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas. Burman's public nursing pages describe only the Kettering route. Neither BSN is awarded by Burman.
If you are choosing Burman for nursing, ask about the Southwestern option explicitly. It exists in the calendar but not on the website. Its terms differ from Kettering's.

Kettering route: the credit count does not match

The Academic Calendar says the Kettering nursing program requires a minimum of 127 credits. It says 46 of them are taken at Burman across a Fall, Winter, Fall sequence. It says a student needs a cumulative 2.80 GPA over those 46 credits with no grade lower than C. It also says no grade lower than C and a GPA of at least 2.8 across BIOL 111, 112, 216 and CHEM 102. Students normally transfer in the Winter term of second year. They receive a 25% Kettering tuition discount for two academic years after transfer. Burman's public transfer-agreement page states 45 credits, not 46.
A one-credit discrepancy between the website and the calendar decides whether you transfer on time. Get the sequence confirmed by the Program Advisor in writing.

Southwestern route: a higher GPA bar

The Southwestern Adventist University BSN requires a minimum of 125 credits. 42 credits of the sequence are taken at Burman across a Fall, Winter, Fall sequence. The calendar's same paragraph also states 46 credits at Burman including BHSC 215 and UNIV 110. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required, with no grade lower than C. Automatic admission to the SWAU BSN needs a cumulative 3.0 or higher. Prerequisite courses must be passed at C or better. All SWAU admission requirements must be met. Completing the Burman certificate and meeting SWAU's criteria brings a 25% tuition discount and eligibility for merit and general scholarships.
The calendar states both 42 and 46 Burman credits for the same agreement in the same paragraph. Treat the credit total as unconfirmed until the Program Advisor resolves it.

The BSN listing is a transfer pathway, not a Burman degree

Burman's academics page lists 'Nursing — BSN (9 Semesters)', and its nursing page describes a year and a half of prerequisite arts and science courses at Burman followed by two years of full-time study at Kettering College. Admission is to the Certificate in Health Sciences. The degree is conferred by the partner institution in the United States.
To practise in Canada, a BSN earned in Ohio or Texas needs separate US study authorization. It also needs a separate registration process. The calendar's only financing warning is about Canadian student loans and foreign study. Licensure planning is on you.

The residence-costs page states a required meal plan minimum of $2,100 per semester for Lakeview and Maple. The 2026–2027 Academic Calendar prints $2,175 billed in the first month of each term for Option 1, describing roughly 10 meals a week at an average of $9 each, with unused amounts carrying over from Fall to Winter but not refunded at the end of Winter. Riverton has a shared full kitchen and no required meal plan.
Budget the higher $2,175 figure. The no-refund-at-year-end rule matters more than the $75 gap: money left on the plan in April is gone.

Burman's offer page says students under the age of 22 with fewer than 60 credits should plan to live in dorm residence. This applies if they are not living with family. What it takes to keep the money

Renewal requires a minimum combined GPA across the two terms. The GPA must be 3.60 for the $3,500 award, 3.40 for the $2,000 award, 3.20 for the $1,000 award, and 3.00 for the $500 award. You must also take a minimum 80% course load of 12 Burman credits in each Fall and Winter term. This load excludes PLAR and audit. A three-year degree carries up to six terms of eligibility. A four-year degree carries up to eight. Spring and summer courses are excluded from the GPA and credit-load calculation. The renewal period will not be extended for any reason.
A 3.60 renewal bar on the top award is meaningfully harder than the 90% admission average that won it. Model your budget on losing a tier, not on holding one.

Awards are split equally between the two terms. They are applied in September and January. So a recipient must attend and complete both Fall and Winter to get the full value. Entrance and renewable scholarships require at least 12 Burman credits per term. This excludes PLAR and audit. The President's Award for Superior Academic Achievement requires 15 credits and a cumulative 3.90 for the year. Remaining awards require at least 9 credits. Dropping below 12 Burman credits reverses all entrance and transfer scholarships for that term. It also affects renewability afterwards. Burman Advantage is open to all students in any degree at any level and recognises seven skill areas: interpersonal communication, problem-solving, creative and critical thinking, personal responsibility, leadership, adaptability, and teamwork. Each year students register through the Record of Hours form, attend a semester informational meeting, accumulate a minimum 20 cumulative hours in volunteer, leadership, team, certificate, or outreach activities, document participation, obtain supervisor verification, and submit a reflection by mid-April. Graduates receive a Burman Advantage Certificate and pin.
Twenty hours a year is a low bar. The certificate is Burman-issued rather than externally recognised. Treat it as a structuring device for your own record. Do not treat it as a credential employers already know.

Transferring credit out into the Alberta system

Burman maintains course transfer arrangements with other Alberta post-secondary institutions. Courses marked with a dagger symbol in the calendar's course descriptions appear in the current Alberta Transfer Guide. That guide is at transferalberta.alberta.ca. The calendar states that institutions will generally evaluate any Burman course for transfer. But only courses listed in the Alberta Transfer Guide receive automatic transfer. Burman uses the Alberta Common Grading Scale. It is also called the Alpha 4.00 scale.
Check each intended course against the Alberta Transfer Guide before you register, not after. 'Will be evaluated' is not the same as 'will transfer'.

Burman students may transfer credit to other accredited Seventh-day Adventist colleges and universities in the United States. This is under the Adventist Accrediting Association and the Association of Adventist Collegiate Admissions Officers and Registrars. Adventist Colleges Abroad is a consortium of thirteen Adventist institutions in Australia and North America. It also has six in France, Austria, Spain, Argentina, Italy, and Germany. It is open to students with a GPA of at least 3.00 in the official-language courses. They also need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.50. Applications are due April 30.
The calendar clearly advises against ACA participation. This is for Bachelor of Education students or anyone planning to transfer credits outside the Adventist system. It cites Alberta Teacher Certification and Alberta Transfer Guide criteria.
