Start with the program and its unit load
McMaster uses units to charge undergraduate tuition. A common course is three units. The Registrar describes a typical full year as five courses in fall and five in winter, or 30 units. That is the load behind the arts and science figure. Your program's actual course list controls the charge, so check it before turning a per-unit rate into a budget.
The 2026-27 Ontario Humanities row lists $205.44 per unit and $6,163.20 annually. Our calculation is $205.44 x 30 = $6,163.20. Engineering is a useful warning against using 30 for everyone: its Level 1 annual figure uses 37 units. Computer Science is also a higher-price group. It doesn't use the ordinary Science tuition rate just because its name includes science.
Our McMaster Life Sciences requirements guide explains the gateway entry. The McMaster Engineering guide explains that separate first year. Use those pages to identify the offer, then use the matching fee row here. A published first-year amount doesn't predict every upper-year charge in the same degree.
The workbook has two different iBioMed Level 1 rows. International Biomedical Engineering is $69,353.54; Health, Engineering Science and Entrepreneurship, or HESE, is $73,284.42. We keep both visible. Confirm which row applies to your offer with the faculty. We don't choose a stream's price for the shared entry year on your behalf.

Ontario and other-province domestic fees differ
McMaster has more than one domestic price. Its workbook separates Ontario from other provinces. The 2026-27 Humanities rows list $6,163.20 for Ontario and $7,715.70 for other provinces. International tuition is $45,158.40. Choose your column first. Comparing two schools with different fee categories can make the price gap seem much larger than it is.
The Registrar first looks at your legal status and where you finished high school. Its Ontario rules also cover family and spouse cases. Receiving OSAP is a stated basis for Ontario status. You can appeal a wrong fee category, but you may need documents. An appeal isn't retroactive. Ask before the fee deadline if your bill uses the wrong column.
An international-fee exemption can change the rate you pay. An award has a different purpose: it gives you funding towards the cost. It doesn't by itself make you domestic. Keep that distinction when you read your offer. Check the school's fee-status rules instead of choosing a rate from your mailing address alone.

What supplementary fees pay for
Tuition pays for academic study. Supplementary fees fund other university and student services. The Registrar says these are normally assessed once in fall, with both flat and per-unit parts. Enrol in fall and winter courses together where instructed, so the assessment reflects the year. Don't assume that two equal tuition terms create two identical supplementary bills.
The McMaster Students Union, or MSU, publishes an actual 2026-27 appendix. It lists health and dental alongside transit and university services. It also lists three capped per-unit amounts. For the 30-unit example, their arithmetic is ($0.81 + $1.90 + $9.32) x 30 = $360.90. The fixed components add to $1,419.27. Together, those published appendix lines total $1,780.17 in our calculation.
That sum retains every printed appendix charge, including the Level 1 orientation fee. It isn't a claim that each component is compulsory in every circumstance. Approved opt-outs and special course charges can change your actual bill. The appendix is a source for these named components; Mosaic remains the place to see the charges assessed to your own program and load.

Health, dental and UHIP are different plans
Full-time undergraduates registered in at least 18 units across fall and winter join the MSU health and dental plan. The 2026-27 appendix lists $114.33 for health and $141.03 for dental. Those amounts are already included in our supplementary total. Adding them as fresh lines to that total would count the same insurance twice.
McMaster's 2026-27 undergraduate plan uses GreenShield for services from September 1, 2026. The MSU explains the early-year processing period, when you should keep claim receipts. Coverage under a parent's plan can matter for an opt-out, but follow the insurer's actual instructions. The Registrar's standing opt-out window is September 1 to 30. A planned refund isn't money already removed from Mosaic.
International students must also consider UHIP, the University Health Insurance Plan. McMaster publishes a $948 single-member premium for September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2027. That is basic health cover, separate from MSU extended benefits. A shorter-start-date premium has its own published row; don't halve the annual premium just because you're looking at one term's tuition.

Residence requires food and extra charges
McMaster's current room page ranges from a $6,550 traditional quad to a $13,990 Lincoln Alexander Hall pod suite for eight months. It doesn't print an academic year beside that table. We show it as the latest available room list in the 2026-27 context. We haven't relabelled those rooms as approved 2027-28 prices.
Hospitality's meal table does label 2026-27. Traditional plans cost $7,280 to $7,960 for the full academic year. Apartment plans cost $4,590 to $5,310, but only eligible rooms can choose them. Each printed full-year price already includes the $235 fixed cost. The separate four-month co-op/exchange column isn't a full first-year food price.
Rooms also have a $45 wellbeing charge and $85 property/liability insurance premium, plus applicable insurance taxes. The checked room page gives no exact tax total, so we don't invent one. Our McMaster residence guide compares the rooms and contract. Keep all these items separate from tuition when deciding whether a residence offer fits your budget.

The commuter example has a clear boundary
Our example is a first-year Ontario Humanities student taking 30 units. It keeps the MSU appendix charges and uses the school's $1,215 book-and-supply default. The arithmetic is $6,163.20 tuition + $1,419.27 fixed fees + $360.90 per-unit fees + $1,215 books = $9,158.37. That is an academic-cost example for 2026-27, not a university quote.
The books figure comes from McMaster's cost estimator. The university calls its 2026-27 results unofficial estimates and asks you to change its defaults for your needs. We preserve that label. We haven't invented a books allowance for each faculty or turned the default into a required purchase. Your actual reading list and equipment needs can differ.
Commuting doesn't make your living costs zero. This example leaves housing, food and travel outside the sum because the student is comparing academic charges. Add your own sourced or personal amounts in the university cost calculator. The existing Queen's and Guelph presets aren't McMaster data. Scholarships also remain outside our total until an actual award is confirmed.

Pay by the term deadline or enrol in a plan
McMaster's standing rule makes full payment due on the 25th of the first month of a term: September, January or May. Those months are payment timing, not admission deadlines. Your Mosaic account shows the amount due. The university warns that charges can be added during the term, so review the balance after you've made your first payment.
The current plan lets you split a term's fees into four monthly payments. You have to enrol for each term separately. The plan opens after add/drop and closes on the 25th of that first month. It adds $80 to the first instalment. We treat these as current standing rules, not independently confirmed Fall 2027 prices or plan-opening dates.
A missed instalment can default the plan and trigger regular interest or late charges. The payment page currently states 1.2% monthly interest and a $102.20 late fee once per term, subject to change. Don't assume that joining a plan removes all penalties if you then miss its dates. Check the accepted payment method's processing time so the money arrives when needed.

OSAP timing doesn't remove an unpaid balance
OSAP means Ontario Student Assistance Program. McMaster recommends applying early and says it must confirm enrolment before funding is released. Your courses in Mosaic must match the assessed load. Aid normally arrives in early fall and early winter instalments. An incomplete document or course-load change can affect that timing, so don't treat an application as an already-paid fee.
McMaster sends approved aid to eligible university charges first. That can include tuition, supplementary fees, residence and meal plans. Any remaining funding goes to your bank account. The school says you're still responsible for a shortfall. It also warns part-time students that funding may not arrive before the fee deadline, because their enrolment is confirmed after add/drop.
The dated 2026-27 deadlines page recommends completing the application and documents by June 30, 2026. Some winter rows still say 2026 even though their printed dates fall in 2027. We retain the year attached to the date and disclose that mismatch. Neither text confirms a June 30, 2027 target. Our McMaster financial-aid guide and OSAP guide cover the separate funding steps.

Deposits aren't an extra copy of the residence bill
Guaranteed residence applicants currently submit $600 to complete the housing application. McMaster separates it into a $500 deposit and a $100 non-refundable application fee. The deposit is credited to the first residence charge. Don't add the entire deposit again to an eight-month room total as if it were another room expense. The application fee is a separate cost.
The room page divides residence charges into two equal instalments, due September 25 and January 25. Meal-plan charges also go to the student account. These rules explain the current payment structure; the page doesn't publish a full 2027-28 housing price list. Your future offer and contract still need a new-cycle check before you make a commitment.
An international admission deposit is separate from housing. McMaster says it is generally non-refundable once an attestation letter has been issued. A study-permit refusal can receive full-refund consideration with the required documents; that isn't a guaranteed refund. The policy gives no universal deposit amount. Use your offer's amount and deadline, then read our Ontario offer-acceptance guide for the separate response step.

Refund dates are earlier than academic withdrawal dates
The 2026-27 schedule gives a full tuition refund through September 16 for fall. The winter date is January 12. Later refund bands fall week by week. The 50% bands are October 10 to 16 and February 6 to 12. Tuition refunds end on November 14, 2026 for fall and March 13, 2027 for winter.
You can still withdraw after refunds end. The academic table lists November 27, 2026 for fall and March 29, 2027 for winter. Those are the limits for withdrawal without failure by default. Protecting your course record doesn't mean you'll get money back. Check both tables. Multi-term and summer courses have their own refund rows; the fall row doesn't cover them.
The cancellation PDF says fall/winter supplementary fees stop being refundable after September 16. The general withdrawal page uses broader non-refundable wording, then explains the add/drop boundary. We state the dated PDF boundary rather than guessing a second January reset. Credits first offset other university debts. A remaining negative balance can be refunded through McMaster's request process; residence follows separate rules.

Use confirmed Fall 2027 awards to reduce the gap
McMaster has published automatic award bands for September 2027 entrants. Humanities pays $3,000 at 94% or higher; Science pays $3,000 at 97% or higher. Social Sciences starts its $3,000 band at 94%, a change from the prior 93% row. Arts & Science requires 98% for its $3,000 award. These are faculty-specific rules, not one campus-wide cutoff.
Lower faculty achievement bands have different values. The current Social Sciences band is 91% to 93.99% for $1,000. The school says you can receive either its university entrance award or the faculty achievement award, so don't add both for the same grades. Our scholarship application guide helps separate automatic consideration from forms you must submit.
The 2027 entrance bursary is $1,000 to $5,000 for eligible incoming domestic Level 1 students with financial need. Its AwardSpring deadline is February 19, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. It isn't guaranteed by an admission average. Apply through the actual form and keep the result separate from our 2026-27 example. A confirmed 2027 award date doesn't confirm 2027-28 tuition.

Source limits and the next fee recheck
The Registrar labels its linked schedule 2026-27. That SharePoint file asked us to sign in on October 13, 2026. We took no fee values from the login page. The public Financial Affairs workbook gives the tuition rows shown here. Its heading still says proposed. The table keeps that source limit visible.
The same workbook has 2027-28 columns. We don't call them approved bills or promise a proposed increase. The room list has no year. The checked meal table has no next-year prices yet. Our next source check is planned for February 1, 2027. Check again before paying fees or accepting a room.
The McMaster university hub keeps the broad school overview. Its tuition examples use these same 2026-27 reference amounts. This page owns the detailed fee and payment comparison; the financial-aid page keeps scholarships and bursaries. Our Fall 2027 Ontario deadlines guide keeps application closing dates, so a fee deadline here doesn't replace an admission deadline there.
