First-year residence guarantee
UCalgary states that all students who apply by May 1 will have a spot in residence. Residence applications open November 1, and the 2026/2027 application is open.
The guarantee secures a space, not a specific building, room type, or roommate.

Campus life, transit, and the winter reality
Living on the main campus puts residence, class, recreation, and the CTrain within one walkable footprint—useful in a city where winter temperatures regularly sit well below freezing and students commute through snow for months. Budget for real winter clothing and use the UPass that every full-time student already pays for instead of assuming a car is necessary.
University-published counts
Clubs, Dinos varsity sport, and recreation
UCalgary advertises more than 400 student clubs and 50 intramural leagues. Dinos varsity teams compete in hockey, football, basketball, soccer, swimming, wrestling, and other sports. Students get free tickets to on-campus regular-season games. The campus also houses the Olympic Oval, gyms, a pool, and climbing facilities.
Club and league counts are marketing figures that change; confirm a specific club is active before planning around it.
