The University publishes standing deadlines by applicant status and separate dates for selected programs and contingents. This guide uses the current live calendar as a planning benchmark; applicants should recheck the table for the target program before submitting a Fall 2027 application.

Not yet published as a dated cycle. Université de Sherbrooke's first-cycle deadline table carries no cycle year at all: it publishes standing dates — March 1 for Fall and November 1 for Winter for Québec and other Canadian applicants, January 15 for Fall and June 1 for Winter for international applicants — that recur each year. The only explicitly dated material is the 2026 entry cycle: the doctorat en médecine ran November 1, 2025 and March 1, 2026, and the admission-scholarship criteria are written for a Fall 2026 start.
Treat March 1, 2027 and January 15, 2027 as working planning dates because the framework is standing rather than dated — but verify the deadline table and the specific program record before submitting, because UdeS states program-specific dates override the general table.

Language of instruction — the decision an anglophone makes first
Université de Sherbrooke is a French-language institution. Teaching, program records, deadline tables, and cost pages are published in French, and there is no English-language undergraduate degree route. Programs publish a required French level at admission ranging from B2 to C2, and the university requires that all four fundamental competencies — compréhension orale, compréhension écrite, production orale, production écrite — be assessed. A Caribbean or Canadian anglophone applying here is choosing to complete a degree in French.
There is no bilingual undergraduate option comparable to uOttawa. Sherbrooke's own English-language pages are limited to international services and the Centre de langues; the degree itself is delivered in French.

Size and student population
UdeS published 33,007 students in 2024–2025: 17,276 at the first cycle, 13,143 at the second, and 2,588 at the third, split 20,741 full-time and 12,266 part-time. It reports 3,655 international students from 100 countries and territories. The largest faculties by headcount in 2024–2025 were Education (8,384), Medicine and Health Sciences (5,199), the École de gestion (4,999), Letters and Human Sciences (4,372), Engineering (4,029), Sciences (3,093), Law (1,760), and Physical Activity Sciences (840).

Three campuses, and your program decides which one
The Campus principal sits adjacent to mont Bellevue in Sherbrooke and holds most faculties, the institutional leadership, and the support services. The Campus de la santé is at 3001, 12e Avenue Nord in Sherbrooke. The Campus de Longueuil, at 150, place Charles-Le Moyne on the south shore of Montréal, offers some 120 programs across all three cycles drawn from every faculty plus continuing education, with indoor access to the Longueuil–Université-de-Sherbrooke métro station and the local and intercity bus station.
Residence rates in this guide are for the Campus principal only. Confirm where your program is actually taught before signing a lease or planning a commute.

University-wide acceptance rate
UdeS does not publish one undergraduate acceptance-rate percentage. What it publishes instead is a general admission condition, capacity limits and cote R barèmes per program, contingent structures in professional programs such as medicine, and a per-program French level. Use that evidence rather than an unsourced campus-wide percentage.

Start with applicant status, then verify country or province equivalency, program prerequisites, French evidence, selection documents, and the correct date. Admissible applicants are not automatically selected when a program has limited capacity.

French is measured across four skills
The current program table ranges from B2 to C2. Engineering, Medicine, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, and several education routes list C1; Applied Political Studies lists B2; Communication and Professional Translation list C2. A program page overrides the summary table if they differ.
The University evaluates international credentials
UdeS says applicants do not need to pay an external organization to establish credential equivalency for admission. Submit complete, readable transcripts and diplomas in the requested format, plus any program-specific material, by the applicable deadline.

Current fee schedule
Sherbrooke's own application and the C$106 file fee
UdeS runs its own online application — there is no OUAC equivalent in Québec — and the international steps page states the form allows two program choices. The fee to open and analyse a file is C$106. UdeS states the fee is not refundable and is the same regardless of the level of program sought, and the application is only evaluated once the fee is received.

Standing deadline framework and the program overrides
Full-time baccalauréats, certificats, and microprogrammes: March 1 for Fall and November 1 for Winter for Québec and other Canadian applicants; January 15 for Fall and June 1 for Winter for international applicants. Part-time study uses August 1 for Fall, December 1 for Winter, April 1 for Summer, April 1 for the May–June half-term, and June 1 for the July–August half-term. Program-specific dates override the table: the BAA is July 1 for Fall and December 1 for Winter, education programs range from June 15 to August 31, physiotherapy and occupational therapy are March 1 for Québec college applicants with zero university credits and February 15 for other contingents, and medicine is November 1 except for Québec college applicants with zero university credits, who apply by March 1.
UdeS also tells international applicants to allow a minimum of three to six months for immigration documents after admission — the real constraint is usually the permit, not the deadline.

The general first-cycle condition
Admission requires a Diplôme d'études collégiales (DEC) issued under the Québec ministry responsible for university preparation, or a préparation jugée suffisante — formation équivalente, or acquis et compétences recognised by the university. Meeting the general condition is only the floor: the program record sets prerequisites, the French level, any entrance test or interview, and the selection method, and UdeS points applicants to its general admission policy (Politique 2500-006).

Current requirement
Educated outside Québec? You need 13 years — and the fix differs by faculty
UdeS states plainly that a person who studied outside Québec must have completed 13 years of schooling. A Canadian provincial secondary diploma or most international secondary diplomas represent 12. Unlike Université Laval, Sherbrooke does not run one university-wide 30-credit qualifying year; the remedy is faculty-specific. Engineering may require an année préparatoire, which UdeS offers on campus. Sciences may offer preparation to an applicant with an excellent academic record. Management and Letters and Human Sciences offer no préparatoire and instead issue a conditional offer requiring the applicant to complete a thirteenth year at another institution.
This is the fact most often missed by applicants from Ontario, the Caribbean, and West Africa: a 12-year secondary diploma alone does not start the degree clock at Sherbrooke. Budget the extra year, and note that in Management and Humanities you must arrange it yourself elsewhere.

French levels by program and the tests that count
Required levels at admission run B2 to C2. C2 applies to communication appliquée, études littéraires et culturelles, and traduction professionnelle. C1 applies to most engineering programs, teaching programs, sciences infirmières, psychologie, kinésiologie, and more than twenty others. B2 applies to géomatique appliquée à l'environnement, histoire, musique, orientation, philosophie, and the baccalauréat multidisciplinaire. Accepted evidence includes the DALF for C1 and C2, the DELF for B1 and B2, TCF and TEF variants, and the Bright test with the Five Star module — and all four fundamental competencies must be assessed. UdeS states directly that the TFI and SEL tests are not equivalent to its admissible tests and diplomas.
Exemptions exist for applicants who completed secondary or postsecondary study in French — a Québec DEC, Canadian Grade 12 in French, or a French baccalauréat — or who already satisfied a French requirement at a recognised francophone university.

Current program requirements
The same C1 label means different things in different programs
Génie informatique defines C1 as a result equal to or greater than 500 out of 699 in each of the four fundamental competencies on a recognised test, unless the applicant is exempt. The baccalauréat en informatique handles French differently again: rather than a test score at admission, admitted students sit a French knowledge and mastery test during their first term, and passing it becomes mandatory at the start of second year. There is no single university-wide French cut-off, and the program record prevails over the summary table.

Current process
No paid external credential evaluation — but strict document rules
UdeS states that for admission it is pointless to pay an external organisation to establish the equivalency of foreign diplomas; the university committee that studies applications establishes equivalency during file evaluation. In exchange the document rules are strict: transcripts must cover every result obtained before the deadline trimester; Canadian and US institutions must send transcripts directly to the registrar; only documents certified by the issuing educational institution are accepted, with embassy or notary certification rejected; non-French and non-English documents need certified translations by a consulate, embassy, or a translator accredited by the Québec order; and originals must be presented in person on arrival.
This is an admission assessment, not an immigration Educational Credential Assessment. The two are not interchangeable.

Current requirements
French baccalauréat holders have their own table
UdeS publishes required specialities by program family: mathematics, physique-chimie, and sciences de la vie et de la Terre in première with mathematics and physique-chimie in terminale for science, health, and medicine routes; mathematics in both years for informatique and mathematics; mathematics only for a specialised or double finance concentration in administration; and LLCE-Anglais for translation and English teaching. Engineering applicants must additionally either take the listed Québec complements — biology, chemistry, calculus, linear algebra, and physics — or complete UdeS's certificat préparatoire. Applicants from the Québec lycées Marie-de-France and Stanislas are assessed on the cote de rendement collégiale; those from lycées outside Québec are assessed against a minimum cumulative average set by country.

Caribbean qualifications are not on the published equivalency table
UdeS's international equivalency page maps Québec credentials to European LMD licences and US bachelor's and master's degrees, and names country-specific exceptions for France, Belgium, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Lebanon, Mexico, Brazil, and the United States. CAPE, CSEC, and WASSCE are not listed on that page; UdeS instead points to a separate Guide des niveaux de formation pour l'admission générale for other countries.
Do not assume a CAPE or WASSCE profile satisfies the 13-year rule. Ask the Bureau de la registraire in writing how your exact credential is counted before paying the C$106 file fee, and keep the answer.

Programs, professional routes, and cooperative structures
Compare credit count, intake, French threshold, direct versus contingent selection, cooperative eligibility, and whether a preparatory year applies. Program names alone do not reveal those differences.
Business Administration
A 90-credit BBA with cooperative study available. The business school's cooperative pattern combines academic terms with three paid, full-time stages of roughly 12–15 weeks.
Computer Science
A 90-credit BSc with regular and cooperative routes and six pathways: general, cybersecurity, software engineering, artificial intelligence, systems and networks, and an integrated video-game-development option.
Computer Engineering
A 120-credit, full-time cooperative engineering degree. The published sequence includes five four-month stages, while the integrated bachelor-master route requires at least four.
Medicine
A first-cycle professional MD with distinct Québec college, Québec university, Atlantic, other-Canada, international, and other contingents. Eligibility, deadlines, selection, and seat rules differ by contingent.
Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy
Integrated bachelor-master professional routes with category-specific admission rules. Québec college applicants without university credits and applicants with university study use different dates.
French-language humanities, education, law, and environment
Program availability spans the Faculties of Education, Law, and Letters and Humanities plus environmental study. French thresholds and intake dates can be stricter than the general university rules.
Computer Science and Computer Engineering are different routes
Computer Science is a 90-credit BSc with regular and co-op options; Computer Engineering is a 120-credit, full-time cooperative engineering program with a preparatory condition for many applicants educated outside the Québec college system. Compare credential, prerequisites, duration, and work sequence—not only the word “computer.”

In 2024–2025 UdeS published 439 programs: 145 at the first cycle, 235 at the second, and 59 at the third. By type that is 51 baccalauréats, 63 master's, 34 doctorates, 95 diplômes, 51 certificats, 143 microprogrammes, and 2 minors. The institution comprises eight faculties and schools — Droit, École de gestion, Éducation, Génie, Lettres et sciences humaines, Médecine et sciences de la santé, Sciences, and Sciences de l'activité physique — plus the Centre universitaire de formation en environnement.
The 439 figure is dominated by microprogrammes and diplômes. For a school-leaver the relevant number is 51 baccalauréats.

90 credits over about three years, offered in the régime coopératif on a full-time basis, with Fall and Winter admission on both the Campus principal in Sherbrooke and the Campus de Longueuil. The published grids alternate study sessions and work terms across lettered group configurations, with three work terms distributed through the three-year degree. The program record does not publish a cote R minimum on its face; UdeS keeps CRC thresholds and capacités d'accueil in a separate reference.

90 credits with both a régime régulier and a régime coopératif, Fall and Winter admission, and six cheminements: général, cybersécurité, génie logiciel, intelligence artificielle, systèmes et réseaux, and a cheminement intégré with the second-cycle DESS en développement du jeu vidéo. Admission bases include the DEC in sciences de la nature (200.B1), sciences, lettres et arts (700.A1), the international baccalaureate (200.Z1), a DEC plus specified calculus and linear algebra, or a DEC technique in informatique with a software-development component. The co-op sans-arrimage grid runs four work terms. Teaching is on the Campus principal; Longueuil is restricted to the DEC-BAC pathway and the second-cycle game-development courses.

Baccalauréat en génie informatique
120 credits structured over five years in the régime coopératif à temps complet, Fall admission only, on the Campus principal. Students complete five four-month stages accumulating 20 months of paid work experience. Admission bases are the DEC in sciences de la nature (200.B1), sciences, lettres et arts (700.A1), the international baccalaureate (200.Z1), the DEC in sciences informatiques et mathématiques (200.C1), or selected technical DECs in electronics, computer systems, avionics, or IT. After 105 of the 120 credits and at least four successful stages, students may enter the master's in electrical engineering in fifth year, replacing the final stage and study session with two master's sessions.
Computer Science and Computer Engineering are genuinely different degrees at Sherbrooke — 90 credits versus 120, optional co-op versus compulsory co-op, two intakes versus one. Compare the credential, not the word.

The doctorat en médecine is a contingent system, not an average
For the 2026 cycle UdeS published contingents for the Québec collegiate category, a Québec collegiate Voie médecine pour la diversité socioéconomique, the Québec university category, Québec university profils particuliers, Québec international medical graduates, First Nations and Inuit in Québec, the military medical studies program, New Brunswick (DSS and university categories), Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Canadians outside Québec and outside the Atlantic contingents, and an international contingent. The deadline was November 1, 2025 for most contingents and March 1, 2026 for Québec collegiate applicants with zero university credits at that date. CASPer is required of all applicants except those eligible only through the First Nations and Inuit contingent, and selection includes mini-entrevues multiples (MEM).
UdeS does not publish the number of places per contingent on this page. Do not carry the 2026 dates into a Fall 2027 plan until the new cycle is posted.

Five first-cycle law pathways, three with co-op
The Faculté de droit publishes a cheminement général, a cheminement coopératif with three cooperative stages, common law et droit transnational leading to a Juris Doctor alongside the bachelor's, droit et sciences de la vie combined with a master's in biology and with an optional co-op, and a droit-MBA coopératif with three cooperative stages. The application deadline for all five pathways is March 1, with additional documentation required for the co-op routes and for adult and Indigenous applicants.
These routes are unavailable to international applicants, who UdeS states are not eligible for first-cycle law.

The University publishes rooms in complexes E and G on the main Sherbrooke campus. A form is only the start: applicants validate the request, accept lease conditions, and pay the advance before the request is processed.

Lease terms, not a calendar
The University publishes leases of eight or twelve months, with a four-month rental possible for the winter and summer sessions only, within designated rental periods and under certain conditions. It does not publish a dated reservation calendar on the live reservation page.
Availability changes
At this August 14, 2026 review, the live reservation page says its form is closed and that additional places become available on September 1. There is no published residence guarantee, so monitor the live form and prepare an off-campus backup—the University prices a 4½ apartment in Sherbrooke at C$1,062 a month and a studio at C$712.

2026–2027 residence rates by complex
Complexe E: a small room of 8.4 m² (90 sq ft) with a single mattress at C$431 per month, and a large room of 12.4 m² (133 sq ft) with a kitchenette at C$600. Complexe G: a small room of 10.1 m² (109 sq ft) at C$441, a large room of 15 m² (161 sq ft) with a single mattress at C$555, and a large room of 15 m² with a double mattress at C$611. The 2026–2027 Complexe G rates carry a 2% credit on the indexation rate, reducing them from C$449, C$566, and C$623 respectively.
At C$431 to C$611 a month these are among the cheapest published university residence rates in Canada — a genuine and verifiable cost advantage over Ontario residences, where a room plus a compulsory meal plan routinely exceeds C$15,000 a year.

Current buildings
Two complexes, and what the rent actually includes
The Campus principal has two housing complexes: complexe G at the foot of Mont-Bellevue and complexe E in the heart of campus. Published room furnishings include a 9 cubic-foot refrigerator, a chair and work desk, a dresser and closet, shelving, and curtains. No cooking appliance may be used in a room except in the large Complexe E rooms that include a kitchenette; shared communal kitchens are provided. UdeS does not publish a total room count or capacity for either complex.
UdeS publishes no compulsory residence meal plan on these pages — residents cook in the shared kitchens and buy their own groceries. Confirm current terms in the lease annexes before signing.

UdeS publishes a rent comparison for the city: C$1,062 a month for a 4½ apartment and C$712 for a studio. The current international fee page lists a C$2,000 bachelor admission scholarship deducted from the first full-time term and faculty excellence awards of C$5,000–C$7,500 following academic assessment. Applicants should confirm eligibility in the offer and live award rules.
Do not reuse 2026 scholarship dates
The faculty admission-scholarship page currently applies to Québec residents completing a DEC in 2025–26 and uses March 1 and May 1, 2026 checkpoints. Those criteria cannot be relabelled as Fall 2027 until UdeS publishes the new cycle.

UdeS's worked 15-credit example for a Québec resident on a study term totals about C$1,980: registration C$41.72, tuition rights C$1,513.35, ancillary fees C$351.49, student association fees of roughly C$50 depending on faculty, and a C$19.50 foundation campaign charge. For other course loads UdeS publishes an estimated base of C$500 for the first three credits plus about C$122 for each additional credit.

Canadians from outside Québec pay a provincial forfaitaire on top
The 15-credit example for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is not a Québec resident totals about C$5,190: registration C$41.72, tuition and the montant forfaitaire C$4,723.50, ancillary fees C$351.49, association fees of roughly C$50, and the C$19.50 foundation charge. Per credit, UdeS publishes about C$1,140 for the first three credits plus C$335 for each additional credit. The forfaitaire is a lump sum set annually in the Québec government's budget rules. Applicants who believe they qualify as Québec residents can submit an Attestation de résidence du Québec with supporting documents; processing takes up to 30 days. Doctoral students are exempt from the forfaitaire.
Unlike Université Laval, UdeS does not publish a French-language study exemption that lets an out-of-province Canadian undergraduate pay the Québec rate. On these pages the only route to the Québec grid at the first cycle is qualifying as a Québec resident, and the only published forfaitaire exemption is for doctoral students. Do not budget on a Laval-style exemption here.

International tuition by field and whether the program has stages
Two bands for a 15-credit study term. Arts, environment, letters, human sciences, and education: C$11,595 without stages and C$11,820 in a program with stages. Law, management, engineering, computing, pure sciences, physical activity, and health: C$14,655 without stages and C$15,615 in a program with stages. Ancillary fees are C$465 on a study term and C$105 on a stage term, and a stage term itself costs about C$545.
The with-stage band is charged on the study term as well, so a co-op program in the second band costs about C$960 more per study term than the same field without stages before the stage term is added.

International admission awards and the majorés exemption
The international fee page publishes a C$2,000 admission scholarship for full-time baccalauréat entrants, deducted from the first full-time term, and faculty excellence scholarships of C$5,000 to C$7,500 awarded on assessment of the academic file. Separately, international students whose home country holds an agreement with Québec may receive an exemption des droits de scolarité majorés and pay the Québec-resident grid instead.
Neither award is universal. The exemption depends on a bilateral agreement with Québec, not on merit, and the excellence awards are discretionary faculty decisions — do not budget either as automatic.

France and francophone Belgium under the Québec agreements
French students at the first cycle are billed on the grid applicable to a Canadian student who is not a Québec resident — not the international grid. At the second and third cycles they receive the exemption on the increased fees and pay the Québec-resident grid. Eligibility requires a valid French passport, a study permit compliant with Canadian immigration rules, and a Québec acceptance certificate. From the Summer 2026 term, students in microprogrammes are no longer eligible and are billed international rates.
The page carries a separate heading for personnes étudiantes belges francophones but published no rate under it at this verification — confirm the Belgian grid with the Bureau de la registraire rather than assuming it matches the French one.

Current standing rules
The confirmation deposit and its five-year credit
Accepting an offer requires a dépôt de confirmation: C$300 for Canadian applicants, and C$1,200 for international applicants, which UdeS states also covers the cost of the compulsory health insurance. The published payment dates are May 1 for Fall, December 15 for Winter, and April 15 for Summer, none of them labelled with a cycle year. The deposit is not refundable beyond the deadline and is not transferable to another person's file, but if the conditions on the admission letter cannot be met in time it stays credited and may be used for a subsequent admission within five years. International applicants may be refunded in full if the CAQ or the study permit is refused.
The May 1, December 15, and April 15 dates carry no year on the page. Do not carry them into Fall 2027 as confirmed dates; re-check when the cycle opens.

Two different international deposit figures on UdeS's own pages
The Bureau de la registraire's page on responding to an offer states that international applicants pay a C$1,200 confirmation deposit which also includes the compulsory health-insurance cost. The USherbrooke International admission-steps page instead tells international applicants to pay a C$300 confirmation deposit and to cover health insurance separately. UdeS does not reconcile the two figures on either page.
Budget the higher figure and confirm the exact amount billed in your admission letter before paying. Do not quote either number as the single official international deposit.

2026–2027
2026–2027 compulsory international health insurance
International students must join the Desjardins Sécurité Financière group health and hospitalization plan. For 2026–2027 the cost is C$900 for September 1 to August 31, C$600 for January 1 to August 31, and C$300 for May 1 to August 31, with exchange students and visiting interns billed C$300 per trimester. Coverage begins no earlier than August 15 for the Fall term, December 15 for Winter, and April 15 for Summer, or on arrival in Canada, whichever is later. Nationals of Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, and Sweden may be exempted under Québec reciprocity agreements if they present RAMQ confirmation by October 31, February 28, or June 30 depending on the term.

Domestic admission scholarships are written for Québec DEC holders
The published criteria require Québec resident status, obtaining a DEC during the 2025–2026 academic year, never having enrolled at a university, a cote de rendement au collégial within the barème set for each program, an admission application submitted before March 1, 2026 with the scholarship program listed first, admission to that first choice by March 1, 2026, acceptance of the offer and payment of the C$300 confirmation deposit by May 1, 2026, full-time enrolment of at least 12 credits as of September 15, 2026, and abandoning no more than one course in Fall 2026.
Read the first criterion carefully: as published, this scheme is closed to applicants who are not Québec residents and who did not obtain a Québec DEC. An Ontario or Caribbean applicant should plan around the international awards and faculty-specific bourses instead. These criteria are explicitly Fall 2026 and cannot be relabelled for Fall 2027.

The Faculté de droit publishes one C$1,000 award for the droit et sciences de la vie pathway, two C$1,000 Richard-Crépeau admission scholarships covering the general, common law, co-op, and MBA co-op pathways, and one C$500 admission scholarship for a university candidate. Letters and Human Sciences publishes up to C$3,760 for the baccalauréat en géomatique appliquée à l'environnement. The École de gestion states that excellence awards on admission to the BAA and the baccalauréat en économique are presented at the end of the first session without publishing amounts on this page.
The faculty pages do not label an entry year for most of these amounts. Confirm both the value and the entry cycle with the faculty before counting on an award.

UdeS bills tuition by trimester and its cost pages are labelled Coûts en vigueur — Trimestre d'été 2026, with rates set by the Québec ministry responsible for higher education according to Québec residency status. What learning in French actually looks like day to day
The Centre de langues offers French as a Second Language courses semi-intensively twice a week or intensively five times a week throughout the year. Each language course is three credits and 45 hours, and the intensive route lets a student complete up to six regular courses in one semester. Certificates run from a beginner level of three courses and nine credits, through functional, advanced, and language-and-culture certificates of five courses and 15 credits each, to a comprehensive 30-credit FLS certificate. International students in a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral program whose program requires French can receive a tuition exemption on the FLS courses — but UdeS states those courses do not count toward the degree or the GPA.
Be honest with yourself about the timeline. FLS credits do not shorten the degree, so an anglophone arriving below the program's B2, C1, or C2 threshold is adding time and workload, not substituting for it. Sherbrooke is a French-first city as well as a French-language campus — housing, banking, health care, and part-time work will all be in French.

UdeS describes the Campus principal as adjacent to mont Bellevue with vast landscaped green spaces and access to hiking trails and bike paths. On campus are a sports centre with an indoor stadium, an aquatic complex, and basketball courts; a cultural centre holding what UdeS calls the largest performance hall in the Estrie plus an art gallery; multiple libraries and dining facilities; a cooperative bookstore selling convenience items and IT equipment; a hair salon and ATMs; teaching laboratories in chemistry, quantum physics and biology, engineering workshops, a music school, a law clinic, and a kinesiology clinic; and a local and intercity transit terminal.

Agreements between UdeS, the Société de transport de Sherbrooke, and the student associations let students on the Sherbrooke campuses access STS public transit on simple validation of their student card. The Campus de Longueuil sits beside the St Lawrence at 150, place Charles-Le Moyne and offers some 120 programs across the three cycles from every faculty plus a wide continuing-education catalogue, with indoor access to the Longueuil–Université-de-Sherbrooke métro station and the bus terminal. It is an urban commuter campus on Montréal's south shore — the residences, mont Bellevue trails, sports centre, and STS transit access described elsewhere in this guide belong to the Sherbrooke campuses.

UdeS says it was the first to introduce the régime coopératif more than 50 years ago, and L'UdeS en chiffres reports 4,989 paid stages, a C$67.0M intern payroll, and a 95.7% placement rate across 49 programmes et cheminements in 2024–2025. Sequences and eligibility still differ by program: confirm whether entry is direct, how many stages apply, and whether international work authorization is required.
Business
The BBA and Economics cooperative routes publish three paid, full-time stages of approximately 12–15 weeks and 35 hours per week, creating roughly one year of work experience within the degree.
Engineering
The Faculty of Engineering publishes five stages totalling 20 months of relevant experience, all obligatorily paid, with two to three study sessions before the first stage. An integrated bachelor-master route can change the final stage pattern.
International students
A closed work permit tied to the co-op program is required, along with a UdeS letter confirming that all students in the program must complete placements to graduate, and the co-op employment must not exceed 50% of the total program. UdeS says only certain programs are open—validate yours before choosing Sherbrooke for co-op.

L'UdeS en chiffres reports paid stages of 4,843 in 2020–2021, 5,159 in 2021–2022, 4,935 in 2022–2023, 4,886 in 2023–2024, and 4,989 in 2024–2025. The intern payroll rose from C$49.9M to C$67.0M across the same five years. Placement rates were 93.2%, 99.7%, 99.9%, 98.0%, and 95.7%. The number of programmes et cheminements offering co-op was 49 in both 2023–2024 and 2024–2025.
This is the strongest work-integrated-learning evidence any Québec university publishes about itself: five labelled years of stage volume, payroll, and placement rate rather than a single marketing figure.

The Faculté de génie publishes that during an engineering degree a student completes five stages accumulating 20 months of relevant experience — an average of four months each — and states that all stages are obligatorily paid. In the régime coopératif students complete two to three study sessions before the first stage. The faculty says more than 50 people work together to deliver close to 4,000 stages a year, and that the average weekly salary varies by employer and by the number of stages already completed.

Co-op as an international student is conditional, not automatic
To work a co-op stage an international student needs a closed work permit tied to the co-op program. UdeS states the requirements: being in a régime coopératif or a program with stages, holding a letter from UdeS confirming that all students in the program must complete professional placements to graduate, holding valid study and work permits, and ensuring the co-op employment does not constitute more than 50% of the total program of study. UdeS says only certain programs are open to international co-op students and tells applicants to validate whether their intended program is part of the pilot project. A medical examination may be required depending on the work sector.
This is the single biggest gap between the co-op marketing and an international applicant's reality: the régime coopératif is a flagship, but access to it depends on a permit and on your specific program being included. Confirm both before you choose Sherbrooke for co-op.
