Programs and Pathways

UdeM programs and the three-year versus four-year distinction

A program’s published credit count assumes its entry credential. Québec students normally complete pre-university CEGEP first, so a 90-credit bachelor’s is commonly three university years. Eligible applicants from 12-year school systems can add preparatory study through an integrated four-year route.

Program or routeCurrent structure
Computer ScienceA 90-credit bachelor’s degree with General, Honor, and COOP orientations. The COOP orientation is selected from the second term and includes three mandatory company internship terms alternating with full-time study.
Four-year Fundamental and Applied SciencesOne application combines the preparatory first year with a selected Faculty of Arts and Sciences discipline. The published family lists ten fields, including chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, bioinformatics, and combined routes.
Four-year Humanities and Social SciencesA four-year route for eligible applicants educated outside Québec, with preparatory and disciplinary work in the first year followed by the selected three-year bachelor’s discipline.
Four-year Arts and LettersA four-year route covering eligible literature, language, philosophy, and related disciplines, with optional internships listed on the current program page.
Medicine, law, dentistry, optometry, and other professional routesThese use their own applicant categories, prerequisites, deadlines, capacity rules, and selection. Do not treat admission to a preparatory route as automatic access to a quota or professional program.

Computer Science’s R score is not an Ontario cutoff

The current Computer Science page lists a minimum Québec CEGEP R score of 25, and the admitted Fall 2025 CEGEP group shows a maximum R score of 36.318 with an average of 29.057 — evidence of competitiveness, not an Ontario cutoff. UdeM does not publish an official conversion from an R score to one Ontario Grade 12 average. Ontario applicants should first confirm the four-year route and mathematics preparation, then assess competitiveness without inventing a percentage conversion.

Compare UdeM’s science degree with the separate engineering institution Polytechnique Montréal. Polytechnique has its own application, engineering prerequisites, French evidence, and stages; affiliation with UdeM does not merge the two admission processes.
