How to apply for these awards

Each award says how you show you're eligible. Some ask you to self-identify on the form. Others ask for an essay or a reference about your community. Open “Who can apply and steps” in the table for each award's own list.

University entrance awards often start with your admission application, so apply to the university first. National awards have their own forms and dates.

  • Put every date from the table in your calendar today.
  • Ask a teacher, coach or community leader for a reference at least three weeks before the date.
  • Keep one document with your activities, roles and dates. You'll reuse it on every form.

Awards open to everyone still count

Awards for Black students are a small share of the money out there. Many university entrance scholarships are automatic when you apply, and national awards like the Loran Award are open to every Canadian student who meets their rules.

Run the Scholarship Finder to see group awards and general awards together, ranked by how well you fit. For the full process, read how to apply for scholarships in Canada.

How this list works

Every award here comes from the same checked list as our Scholarship Finder. Each record links to the provider's own page and shows the day we last checked it. We never copy award details from aggregator sites.

Awards that are closed for this cycle are left out of the tables. They come back when the provider posts new dates. Dates refresh on their own, so a passed date drops off the page.

A listing isn't a promise that you qualify. Each provider sets its own rules and picks its own winners. Read the official page before you apply.
