Manage registration and schedules in Omnivox

My JAC Portal and Omnivox provide course registration, course schedules, invoices and payment, attendance validation, personal-file updates, MIO messages and a progression chart. Returning students can request a program change for the following semester through the Program Change module; new students use the program-adjustment route instead. Course selection guides and individual registration times appear through the Registrar's Omnivox community.

Check English and French placement

English placement is waived for a student who currently attends or left a Quebec English high school less than two years ago and earned at least 80% in final Secondary IV English Language Arts. The accepted course codes are 632-406 or 630-416. Completing or currently taking CEGEP English 603-101-MQ is another exemption. Placement is generally required for Quebec French-school applicants, many out-of-Quebec applicants and older or adult-education records.

French placement can be required for students educated outside Quebec or whose Quebec schooling is older. A student without an English Eligibility Certificate who completed French langue seconde at a private English high school must also test. French placement normally does not affect admission, though it may affect a specific program. Results arrive through the JAC Portal or Omnivox after testing.

Choose the right student service

The Access Centre supports equal access, while Academic Advising helps with diploma planning, course selection and program changes. Use MIO or an appointment for an individual decision rather than assuming a general portal instruction applies to your program.

John Abbott's services directory links students to Academic Advising, the Academic Success Centre, Counselling, Health and Wellness, the Employment Centre, Student Activities and the Indigenous Student Resource Centre. Use the named office for the task instead of treating Omnivox as the answer to every support need.

Document qualifying involvement

The Student Involvement Recognition program can record qualifying community, cultural, entrepreneurial or sport involvement on a student's college transcript and provides a certificate. Eligibility depends on the program's criteria; club membership or volunteering is not automatically recognized.

  2. Review the schedule

Check course prerequisites, sections and the Registrar's current guide.

  3. Ask before changing

Message Academic Advising before a program change or course choice that affects progression.

Decision checklist

  • Use Course Registration and Course Schedule for current term details.
  • Remember that new students request program adjustments, not the returning-student Program Change module.
  • Contact the Access Centre early when you need accommodations.
