Compare credential types

The current catalogue groups certificates, diplomas, apprenticeships, full degrees, Continuing Education courses and micro-credentials. Compare the actual credential, required courses, published length, delivery and admission conditions rather than choosing from a subject label alone. A short credential, a two-year diploma, a four-year degree and the first stage of a transfer route lead to different costs and completion decisions.

Review local and collaborative degrees

NWP’s degree page describes local four-year bachelor’s routes in business administration, computing science, elementary education and secondary education. It listed Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bachelor of Social Work as coming in 2026/2027. The page separately describes the collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing and university-transfer study that begins at NWP for one or two years. Applicants should verify whether NWP or a partner controls application, registration and later-year tuition for the chosen route.

Test a specific computing option

Computer Systems Technology is a useful scoped example. Its diploma page requires a high-school diploma and at least 50% in Mathematics 30-1 and English 30-1, or accepted equivalents. The curriculum combines software development with hardware, problem solving, networking and data communications, with second-year options including computer graphics, image processing, digital hardware and networking. These facts belong to this diploma and do not define every computing program.

Treat transfer as a separate decision

Transfer and collaborative language does not promise automatic progression, recognition or admission at a receiving institution. The general requirements page notes, for example, that University of Alberta Commerce does not admit directly to year one and requires a competitive pre-professional year for consideration for year two. Check the intended receiving institution and program before selecting NWP courses, and preserve written advising records when a later transfer decision matters.

Decision checklist

  • Compare the exact credential and curriculum.
  • Check who controls later-year registration.
  • Verify transfer with the receiving program.
