Canadore College Careers and Placements

North Bay, Ontario

Experiential learning is curricular preparation; students remain responsible for clearance, costs and any separate job search.

Separate experiential learning from employment

Canadore distinguishes broad experiential learning from work-integrated learning with an external partner. Full-time programs include curricular experiential opportunities, but the format can be a lab, simulation, capstone, applied research, field or clinical placement, job shadowing or apprenticeship. That commitment does not promise a paid role, an employer match or the same placement structure in every program.

Complete placement clearance early

Students must be cleared before a required placement. Depending on program and host, requirements can include a vulnerable-sector check, immunization evidence, first aid and additional agency onboarding. Students pay the related costs. Canadore warns that clearance may take weeks or months and that missing a posted deadline can delay progression until the next offering and add fees. Placement-location requests are possible only in some programs.

Check Work Study eligibility and timing

Work Study positions are part time, limited to 10 hours per week and posted in early September and January. The retained eligibility rules require a previous-semester GPA above 2.0 and Ontario residency as defined for OSAP—12 consecutive months before attending full-time postsecondary study. Students receiving Second Career funding and international students whose enrolment is not reported for set-aside funding are excluded. A posting remains an application opportunity, not a job guarantee.

Check iCanWork eligibility and timing

iCanWork positions are summer roles lasting at most 15 weeks at 35 hours per week. Students must be between academic years and returning to Canadore in the fall, and the same financial eligibility rules apply. Canadore says these positions are posted in March. Placement contacts remain separate: health sciences, human and social sciences, and sport and recreation have named routes, while other students contact the responsible faculty member or program coordinator.

Decision checklist

  • Identify the exact experiential component in the program sequence.
  • Start every required clearance item before the posted deadline.
  • Check Work Study hours, GPA, residency, funding exclusions and September or January postings.
  • Check iCanWork return-to-study status and March postings.
