Identify the WIL form
Bow Valley College says all career programs include a work-integrated learning component. These include apprenticeship-style learning, field placement, practicum, service learning and projects. The program decides the form. So you should not assume every experience is an off-campus paid job. You should not assume two programs use the same schedule.
Check placement conditions
Placement options may include applying in greater Calgary or elsewhere. You may propose a placement. You may work with a current employer. You may get credit for prior relevant experience. The College qualifies those choices. Options vary by program. They remain subject to approval and availability. You must review the program requirements before starting. A curriculum requirement does not itself guarantee a host, location, wage, schedule or immigration authorization.
Connect learning to the program
Software Development describes hands-on learning and real projects. These cover the development cycle. This may prepare a portfolio in a different way. A clinical or field-placement program may prepare a portfolio differently. Before you choose any career credential, find the actual WIL course or project. Find the prerequisite sequence. Find the full-time or part-time demands. Find the placement checks, equipment and extra costs. International students should verify something separately. Check whether the program and experience fit current study- and work-authorization rules. The College program label is not an immigration decision.
Keep outcomes separate
Transfer is another possible next step, but the receiving institution controls it. Bow Valley College directs learners to its pathway listings and Transfer Alberta. It warns that meeting a general pathway does not guarantee credit acceptance. Career planning should keep three records separate. One is completed credential and WIL evidence. One is employment-search materials. One is written transfer advice from the receiving institution. None alone promises employment, licensure, admission or a specific amount of advanced standing.
