Yukon University serves learners at 13 campuses. Its main campus is Ayamdigut in Whitehorse. It became a university in 2020. Its college roots go back to 1963. It is small by design. It has two of its own degrees. It has three partnership degrees conferred elsewhere. Its catalogue is still mostly diplomas, certificates, trades, and upgrading.

Canada's first university north of 60°

YukonU traces its history to the Whitehorse Vocational and Technical Training Centre founded in 1963, became Yukon College in 1983, moved the Whitehorse campus up the hill in 1988, and was granted university status in spring 2020, when all thirteen campuses were renamed Yukon University. The Whitehorse campus was opened with a potlatch in October 1988 and named Ayamdigut—a Tlingit name meaning "she got up and went"—by Mrs. Angela Sidney.
The college roots are not a footnote. Trades, upgrading, and vocational certificates are still a large share of what YukonU delivers.

Ayamdigut Campus in Whitehorse—situated on the Traditional Territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta'an Kwäch'än Council—is the main campus and the only site with campus housing.

The published programs list is dominated by certificates, diplomas, notices of completion, trades, and upgrading. Degrees are a short list: Business Administration, Indigenous Governance, Northern Environmental and Conservation Sciences, Social Work, and two Education (YNTEP) routes—degree and after-degree. Public Administration is the only graduate listing. Several programs, including Heritage and Culture, Millwright, Pipe Trades, and Carpentry for women, are currently marked "Not accepting applications."
Program availability changes intake to intake. Confirm the exact credential is open for the term you want. Do this before building an application plan around it.

Fall 2027 dates are now published on YukonU's important-dates page. Domestic applications open for Winter 2027 and Fall 2027 on Thursday, October 1, 2026. International applications open for Fall 2027 on the same day. International applications close for Fall 2027 on Tuesday, June 1, 2027. Domestic applications close for Fall 2027 on Thursday, July 15, 2027. YukonU adds that individual program application dates may vary. It also says dates are subject to change.

English evidence varies
For several university-level routes, current examples include IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0. They also include TOEFL iBT 87 with no section below 20, and PTE 59 with no section below 53. Lower-tier credentials use lower scores. The live program-specific table controls.
Transcripts and access routes
Official transcripts are required. Applications without them cannot be processed. Current Grade 12 students submit a transcript and recent report card. Applicants who need an external evaluation must use the evaluator named in YukonU's live international tables, currently IQAS Educational only. Missing prerequisites may be addressed through University Assessments or University Access Pathways.

The YukonU application page says some programs have early application deadlines between March and May. It directs applicants to the program advisor listed on each program page. Verified current-cycle examples: the Bachelor of Social Work closed April 14, 2026. YNTEP closed April 17, 2026. Both have a single intake per year. Northern Environmental and Conservation Sciences uses a May 1 deadline for Fall and November 15 for Winter.
The named April and May dates belong to the Fall 2026 intake. Expect an equivalent mid-April window for Fall 2027 and confirm on each program page rather than relying on the July 15, 2027 university-wide close.

Published current examples include English 12 at 65% for Northern Studies, Liberal Arts, Northern Outdoor and Environmental Studies, Early Learning, and Visual Arts. English 12 at 65% plus Math 11 (Foundations or Pre-Calculus) is needed for Business Administration and Aviation Management. Mature-student and age rules

Academic Regulation 2.08 allows an applicant who will be at least 19 before the first day of classes to be admitted. They must meet the applicable entrance course requirements. They can be admitted even without a Secondary School Graduation Certificate or Adult Graduation Diploma. Regulation 2.09 requires the Registrar's permission for anyone under 17. It applies the same age rules to open studies. Students may take up to six credits per term as an open-enrolled student without applying to a program. Some professional or limited-enrolment programs exclude open enrolment.

Transcripts control processing

YukonU states that applications without official transcripts cannot be processed. High school graduates submit an official transcript. Current Grade 12 students submit a transcript plus their most recent report card. They arrange a final transcript later. Mature students are defined here as 19 or older, or 17 and out of school for at least one full academic year. They submit a high school transcript and may be required to write University Assessments. Letters of acceptance and all later correspondence are emailed. Registration is not automatic after an offer.

Applicants missing Math or English prerequisites may gain entry by successfully completing University Assessments. Domestic applicants can demonstrate English proficiency either by the grade-level achievement named as the admission requirement or by scoring at the prescribed level on the Accuplacer Next Generation Reading and Writing Assessment including WritePlacer. YukonU also asks students with disabilities to contact Accessibility Services as early in the application process as possible.

Only one credential evaluator is currently named

For applicants who did not graduate from high school in Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, the USA, or the UK, YukonU's international admission tables state "We currently accept evaluated transcripts from: International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS), Assessment type: Educational." IQAS is the only evaluator named across every program table, and YukonU recommends starting the evaluation before or as soon as you apply.
Earlier YukonU material also named an ICES Comprehensive Report. The live tables no longer do—confirm with admissions before paying for an evaluation from any other agency.

They also publish PTE Academic 59 with no section below 53, or ILAC University Pathway PW 3.3. These programs include the BBA, Science, Liberal Arts, Northern Studies, Earth Sciences, Northern Environmental and Conservation Sciences, Aviation Management, Early Learning, and Visual Arts. Multimedia Communication sits lower at IELTS 6.0. Culinary Arts and Office Administration sit at IELTS 5.5. University Access Pathways and ESL sit at IELTS 5.0.

Conditional offers, wait lists, and deregistration

Direct-entry applicants must give a final secondary school transcript. If the deadline comes before secondary studies end, YukonU gives a conditional offer. That offer states a transcript deadline. YukonU deregisters students who miss it. Outstanding prerequisite conditions give a student two terms to finish the course. If the student does not finish, the student is moved into University Access Pathways and must reapply. Missing documents must reach the Office of the Registrar by the first day of term. A wait list is created when a program is full. Refused applicants are told the reason, how to upgrade, and their right of appeal.

Not yet published. YukonU states that the Admissions and Transfer Credit sections will be removed from the Academic Regulations. This will happen once standalone Admissions and Transfer Credit policies and procedures are approved. That transition is anticipated in November 2026. The current provisions remain in effect until then.
Recheck the policy library after November 2026. The mature-entry, conditional-offer, and transfer-credit rules quoted here may move to new documents. This may happen before Fall 2027 applications close.

Programs and Pathways
Yukon-made degrees, partnership degrees, and northern science
The credentialing institution and entry point differ by program. Compare who grants the degree. Compare how many prior credits are required and where the program is delivered. Also check whether the route is open for the intended intake.
Business Administration
This is a Yukon-made Bachelor of Business Administration, diploma, and certificate. It has northern and decolonial context. Some courses have community or online delivery. It also has Yukon First Nations core competency.
Indigenous Governance
A 90-credit Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Governance. At least 45 credits must be completed at YukonU, and many courses are available by distance.
Northern Environmental and Conservation Sciences
Years three and four of a University of Alberta BSc in Environmental and Conservation Sciences, Northern Systems major. Students complete the first 60 credits at YukonU or another recognized institution; the University of Alberta confers the degree.
Social Work
This is a University of Regina Bachelor of Social Work. YukonU delivers it. To enter, you need 30 university credits and a 70% average. You also need named English and social-work courses, plus supplementary selection. Qualified Indigenous applicants have half of the limited seats reserved.
Yukon Native Teacher Education Program
This is a four-year, 120-credit University of Regina Bachelor of Education. It has a northern specialization, cultural camp, practica, and internship. Applicants complete YukonU and University of Regina admission steps.
Science pathways
The 30-credit Science certificate commonly supports transfer into second year of a BSc. Northern Science (Biological Sciences) and Earth Sciences diplomas provide more northern field and laboratory routes.
Public Administration (MPA)
This is YukonU's only graduate listing. The University of Alaska Southeast delivers it online. UAS sets tuition. YukonU publishes an average of CAN$1,400 to $2,800 per course. YukonU states the programme is ineligible for NASPAA national accreditation because of its size.
Trades, vocational, and upgrading
Carpentry, Electrical, Welding, Heavy Equipment Technician, Commercial Driving, Culinary Arts, Health Care Assistant, Practical Nurse, and University Access Pathways make up a large share of the catalogue. Several trades routes are currently marked as not accepting applications.
Partnership details matter
The University of Alberta confers the Northern ENCS degree, the University of Regina confers Social Work and YNTEP, and the University of Alaska Southeast delivers the Public Administration MPA. Those routes use additional admission stages and should not be summarized as ordinary direct-entry YukonU degrees.

Two degrees are YukonU's own: the Bachelor of Business Administration and the Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Governance. Three are partnered—the University of Alberta confers the BSc in Northern Environmental and Conservation Sciences, and the University of Regina confers both the Bachelor of Social Work and the YNTEP Bachelor of Education. The Public Administration MPA is delivered by the University of Alaska Southeast. Reading the credential rather than the campus name is the single most important comparison step here.

Business Administration: a laddered, de-colonial BBA

YukonU describes the BBA as "distinctive in that it has been created from a de-colonial perspective," rooted in low population densities, vast distances, remoteness, and higher costs. Entry is English 12 at 65% plus Math 11 (Foundations or Pre-Calculus). The certificate, diploma, and degree ladder carries completion limits of five, eight, and ten years respectively, and graduation requires a cumulative GPA of 2.00 plus the Yukon First Nations Core Competency. Many courses run part-time day or evening in Whitehorse, and several are available through the community campus network or by distance. The capstone places student teams on a real northern business, government, or nonprofit problem.
YukonU states many Business Administration courses have recently been revised. YukonU states transfer agreements are currently pending. Verify BCCAT transferability with a program advisor. Do this before planning to move credits elsewhere.

Indigenous Governance: the first made-in-Yukon degree

The Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Governance requires 90 credits. This includes FNGA 341 or 342 and the FNGA 343 capstone. It requires a residency requirement of 50% (45 credits) completed through YukonU. It requires a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA (grade point average). It also requires the Yukon First Nations Core Competency. Admission is English Studies 12 at a minimum 65% OR five years of manager-level work experience. Many courses are available by distance through web conferencing or online delivery. So students can participate from home, any YukonU campus, or off-campus locations.

Northern ENCS is a University of Alberta transfer degree

YukonU delivers years three and four of a University of Alberta BSc in Northern Environmental and Conservation Sciences. The major is Northern Systems. U of A and YukonU faculty both teach it. Students first complete up to two years (60 credits) of transferable coursework. They can do this at YukonU or elsewhere. Students coming from a YukonU diploma should complete at least 24 credits (8 courses) from the recommended list. Transfer credit requires a grade of C- or higher. Applicants must also meet the entry requirements of the U of A Faculty of Agricultural, Life, and Environmental Sciences. These include a minimum admission GPA of 2.3 plus Biology 12, Chemistry 12, and Pre-calculus 12. Students apply directly to the University of Alberta after pre-screening by the ENCS Program Advisor.

Social Work is a University of Regina BSW with a selection process

The University of Regina grants the BSW. The program is accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education. Entry requires a minimum 30 university credit hours with a 70% average. This includes two English courses at the 100 level or higher with a 70% combined average, Social Work 200, and 21 general university credits. There is one intake per year with limited seats. Half are reserved for qualified Indigenous applicants. YukonU states qualified Indigenous applicants are given first priority. The full package adds a personal statement, three references sent directly by referees, a current Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check, and a resume. An interview with faculty and community-based social workers follows in April and early May.
The Fall 2026 BSW deadline was April 14, 2026 and the YukonU application fee was waived for that cycle. Confirm both the Fall 2027 deadline and whether the fee waiver repeats.

YNTEP: a 120-credit BEd with Indigenous priority admission

YNTEP began in 1989 in response to Together Today for our Children Tomorrow. It is a four-year, 120-credit Bachelor of Education credentialed by the University of Regina. Graduates qualify for both Saskatchewan and Yukon teacher certification. They are eligible for certification throughout Canada. Seats are first offered to qualified applicants of Indigenous heritage. Priority is given to Yukon First Nation applicants. Applicants who did not graduate from high school can enter in another way. They must be out of full-time secondary school for at least two years. They must demonstrate ability to succeed through life or work experience. They must reach a minimum 65% in ENGL 060 or equivalent plus acceptable Math assessment scores. Applicants are accepted only after both YukonU and the University of Regina confirm acceptance.
The Fall 2026 YNTEP deadline was April 17, 2026. There is one intake per year and a waived application fee. Confirm the Fall 2027 equivalents before planning.

The only graduate listing is an Alaska-delivered MPA

Public Administration is listed as a graduate credential but the degree is delivered by the University of Alaska Southeast, online through synchronous and asynchronous classes. UAS is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and is an institutional member of NASPAA, though the page states plainly that "Due to the size of the MPA program, we are ineligible for national accreditation with NASPAA." Tuition is set by UAS, with course costs averaging CAN$1,400 to $2,800 per course.

University Access Pathways is the upgrading route

University Access Pathways offers math, science, English, and computing courses. These go through Intermediate, Advanced, and Provincial Adult Basic Education coursework. Students can meet prerequisites for YukonU and other institutions. It can also be completed as a diploma in its own right. Admission is English 8 at a minimum 65%. Courses run face-to-face and online in 2026-27. Independent study may be available. The Yukon First Nations Core Competency applies. YukonU warns twice that acceptance into the program does not guarantee enrolment or a space. It requires a program advising appointment after the letter of acceptance.

Ayamdigut campus housing has four buildings, 92 units, and capacity for 112 students. Applicants need a valid offer and full-time registration. Allocation is first-come first-served within a published priority sequence, and students reapply each year.

Official housing fee conflict
The live housing application page says C$30. The 2026–27 housing fee PDF says C$50. This guide does not choose between conflicting official figures. Verify the charge displayed in the application before paying. YukonU also warns international students that Whitehorse has a housing shortage. Arrange a backup early.
Four buildings, 92 units, 112 beds

All campus housing is at Ayamdigut in Whitehorse. The 500 Building holds 47 individual dorm spaces in 48 units. It has shared kitchens and washrooms and is attached to the main campus. The 510 Building is a quieter detached dorm. Its 13 units are only for students over age 25. The 500A Building has 8 two-bedroom split-level family apartments. The 520 Building offers 60 individual rooms in two- and three-bedroom self-contained apartments. This starts once its change from family units is complete. These are published totals per term. Each combines rent with a $25.00 activity fee and a laundry fee. An Individual Dorm in Building 500 or 510 costs $2,247.00. That is $2,142.00 rent plus $80.00 laundry. An Individual Large Dorm in Building 500 costs $2,451.00. An individual room in a two- or three-bedroom unit in Building 520 costs $2,655.00. A Family two-bedroom in Building 500A costs $5,041.00. That is $4,896.00 rent plus $120.00 laundry. Damage deposits are $250.00 for dorms, $350.00 for shared apartments, and $700.00 for family units. There is a $400.00 Additional Adult Occupant fee on family contracts. The academic year runs September 1, 2026 to April 20, 2027. The damage deposit is due June 15. Installments are due August 15, October 15, December 15, and January 15.
Refunds tighten fast. If you cancel within 30 days of move-in, you forfeit the damage deposit. After 45 days of occupancy, no housing fee is refunded.

This guide does not pick between two official figures. Check the amount displayed in the housing portal at the moment you pay, and keep the receipt—the fee is non-refundable in every published refund scenario.

Ancillary costs vary by course
YukonU's 2026–27 ancillary schedule lists extra charges. These apply to selected field, studio, capstone, culinary, trades, and other courses. So a 30-credit tuition multiplication is a baseline. It is not a complete cost of attendance.
Awards use their own criteria
The live awards database includes entrance, continuing, program-specific, Indigenous, and limited international awards. Intake labels and deadlines differ. So check the exact award year. Do not carry a prior-cycle date forward.

This applies to programs and courses in the 2026-27 academic year starting September 1, 2026. Undergraduate credit courses cost $152 per credit, or $456 for a three-credit course. University Access Pathways courses cost $96 per credit, or $288 for a three-credit course. Full-time vocational and Culinary Arts cost $2,100 per term. Pre-apprenticeship trades programs cost $3,275 per program. Graduate-level courses cost $500 per credit. So 30 credits of undergraduate study is $4,560 in base tuition before fees.
YukonU sets one Canada-wide rate. It also gives this rate to Alaska residents. There is no separate out-of-territory Canadian rate.

Mandatory non-refundable fees

The application fee is $30 for domestic students and $100 for international students. Each term, the Student Union fee is $55 full-time and $15 part-time. The technology fee is $105 full-time and $26 part-time. The student activity fee is $37 full-time and $20 part-time. That is $197 per term for a full-time domestic student. Invigilation is $75 for the first three hours, plus $25 per hour after that. Students who miss the payment deadline are blocked from future registration. They also lose access to transcripts and library loans.

International tuition, deposit, and insurance

International credit courses in certificate, diploma, degree, and University Access Pathways programs are $400 per credit. That is $12,000 for 30 credits. The Culinary Arts program is $9,900. Admission costs include a $100 non-refundable application fee. There is also a $6,000 non-refundable tuition deposit and a $50 non-refundable deferral fee. Health and dental insurance is mandatory for all international students at $216.30 per term. It is optional in Spring if not enrolled. The deposit is refunded in full only if YukonU cancels the program. An IRCC study-permit refusal refunds the deposit less a $300 processing fee. This applies if the refusal letter is provided within three months.
The international admission tables list Business Administration. It is the only undergraduate degree open to international applicants. Check that your target credential appears there. Do this before paying a deposit.

The 2026-27 ancillary schedule adds charges per course, not per program. Science lab fees are $50 to $60. SOVA studio fees are $165 to $200. ANTH 144 Heritage and Culture Field School is $500. PHED 222 and 225 Northern Outdoor Pursuits and Leadership are $400 each. ECCU 390 Yukon First Nations Culture and Values on the land is $600. SW 352 Culture Camp is $840. FNDS 103 Foundations in Indigenous Governance is $500. FNGA 340 Indigenous Governance Capstone is $750. LEAD 111 Quest 100 is $500. Trades tool kits and instructional material fees are $200 to $500.
A tuition-times-credits calculation understates the real cost. This is true in exactly the northern, land-based, and studio courses that make YukonU distinctive.

Named entrance awards and their values

The Yukon University Entrance Scholarship offers five awards of up to $3,500 toward first-year tuition over two sequential semesters. Students need a minimum 80% average. It prioritises graduates of Yukon high schools, then Canadian post-secondary institutions, then Canadian high schools outside Yukon. The Academic Potential Entrance Award offers one award of up to $3,500. It is for applicants who cannot supply a Canadian transcript averaging above 80%. It requires an essay and a community letter of recommendation. The Winter Entrance Award offers two awards of up to $1,750 toward Winter tuition on financial need. All require Canadian citizenship or permanent residence. All require full-time registration of at least 9.0 credits.
The two $3,500 awards carry a May 15, 2027 deadline. Their eligibility text still names Fall 2026 entry. YukonU has not yet updated the semester label. Confirm the entry term with the Funding Advisor before applying.

Activities and student-run clubs are free. They are open to current students and staff only. Four clubs are currently listed. The YukonU Beading Club meets weekly with Elders on campus and gives supplies free to students. The YukonU Volleyball Team aims at local tournaments. The Technology Club is also listed. The YukonU Rotaract Club was founded in 2025 and is sponsored by the Whitehorse Rendezvous Rotary Club. A new club needs at least three active student members to be officially recognized. YukonU keeps a list of proposed clubs still looking for members.
YukonU publishes no varsity athletics programme. If you are choosing a university for competitive sport, this is not that campus.

Students can work with faculty or at the YukonU Research Centre, and hiring runs all year—full-time, part-time, summer, or during the semester. SW 348 Social Work Practicum 1 requires 225 hours in placement. This is typically two days per week over 15 weeks. It also requires a two-day orientation before the field placement and bi-weekly seminars. It is graded pass/fail.
