Domestic applications
Diploma and certificate applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca, where you track your status, get your offer and confirm it. Ontario Colleges charges a non-refundable $150 fee for up to five choices, no more than three at one college. Fall offers come on or after February 1, and winter and spring programs make offers on a rolling basis. Confirm a fall offer by May 1.
Competitive programs
Competitive programs include the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Practical Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technician, Companion Animal Physical Rehabilitation and the veterinary programs. Northern gives priority to the highest marks in the required courses, and Ontario residents come first, then other Canadians, then international applicants. After February 1, applications are waitlisted or accepted first come, first served.
Requirements and mature students
Most programs need a high-school diploma, but you may qualify as a mature student if some time has passed, and Academic Upgrading is free if you're missing courses. Some programs also need health and immunization records, CPR and first aid, a criminal record and vulnerable sector check, a toolkit, or a hearing or vision test.
International applicants
International students apply through the Ontario Colleges international portal for a $100 fee and should apply at least 8 months before the program starts. Send notarized transcripts with English translations and an English test. Most certificates and diplomas need IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5, and the BScN needs 6.5 with no band below 6.0. New international students in select programs may get a $2,000 entrance scholarship.
