Douglas College

Co-operative Education is optional. The program page says students who take the option complete 9 additional COOP 1100 credits, graduate with 69 credits and should plan two semesters ahead. This is a program-specific option, not a college-wide placement promise. The program footnote states that the work term is at least 420 hours, must be taken through Douglas Co-op, can begin only after two semesters and 18 credits, and cannot be the last semester.

Douglas's current co-op page lists the CSIS diploma among programs offering co-op and describes the work experience as full-time and paid. It also says students return for at least one full-time academic term after the work term. The current sources conflict on the pre-work credit threshold. The CSIS catalogue footnote says the term can begin after at least two semesters and 18 credits. The general Co-op page says students complete at least 27 credits before beginning. Ask the Co-op Office which threshold applies to the current CSIS cohort. Neither source guarantees a position.

The 808 Royal project is described as a future building across from New Westminster Campus with 368 student beds. Douglas says completion is anticipated in late 2027, opening timing and exact room rates are not yet finalized, and demand is expected to exceed supply.

The 808 Royal page still describes the project rather than an available residence application. Until Douglas publishes an opening date, room types, rates and assignment process, plan housing through the current off-campus guidance and treat the future bed count as project scope rather than personal availability.

On October 3, 2026, Douglas said construction began in late 2023, completion is expected in late 2027 and student housing is projected to open in early 2028. The 20-storey building will offer three room types: traditional single rooms with a shared floor bathroom, connected single rooms that share one bathroom between two students, and four-bedroom suites with two bathrooms, a kitchen and a living room. Housing fees will cover the furnished room, utilities, Wi-Fi and 24/7 security, but rates weren't published yet.

Until then, most international students start in homestay. Douglas names FCI, Cypress Accommodations and CanBeHome Canada Homestay as placement services, and Global Education City as a student-housing provider. View a place in person before you sign or pay. Your student fees include a U-Pass, which you load onto a Compass Card for unlimited bus, SeaBus and SkyTrain travel in the Vancouver area, so a longer commute doesn't add a transit bill.

For standard 15-week Fall 2026 courses, the refund page gives a 100% tuition-and-fee refund through September 14. The non-refundable tuition deposit is not included. Drops from September 15 through 21 receive a 50% tuition refund per class. Withdrawals from September 22 through November 9 receive no refund and record a W. New first-semester international students follow a separate policy. Not paying does not remove fee liability.

Bursaries require demonstrated financial need. They are supplemental funding. Douglas warns payment may not arrive until mid-term. General awards normally require returning-student status. Douglas Counselling Services provides free, accessible and confidential individual or group support and workshops. These are for personal, career and academic concerns. Services have limitations for students currently outside British Columbia. Use the linked resources for other options. Do not assume equivalent remote access.

Counselling is not the emergency route. If someone is in danger or there is an immediate safety concern, the page directs students to call 911 and notify Douglas College Security when on campus.

The New Westminster Fitness Centre in N1315 is free for Douglas students and employees. Before a first visit, complete the informed-consent waiver; bring a physical Douglas student or staff ID each time because a spoken ID number is not accepted. At Coquitlam, register at Pinetree Community Centre using Douglas ID and a myAccount login to obtain the activity card required for recreational services.

Library group rooms are for currently registered students. The current study-spaces page lists six rooms at New Westminster and six at Coquitlam, with bookings up to two hours per day, twice a week and one week ahead. A room not occupied within 15 minutes becomes available to someone else. The page also lists quiet areas, online-course carrels, private study booths and media rooms; check the location and equipment before booking.

Student clubs and collectives are administered by the Douglas Students' Union. It operates at both campuses but is separate from the College. Use its current directory to join or start a group. The College page also identifies DSU services. These include its health-and-dental plan, locker rentals and emergency food bank. Eligibility and terms belong to the DSU.

Douglas identifies a course as university-transferable when it transfers to UBC, UBC Okanagan, SFU, UVic or UNBC. The College names the BC Transfer Guide as the place to check course transferability and recommends academic advising for program planning.

Transfer is not automatic: Douglas says receiving institutions may evaluate courses and calculate GPA under their own policies. For prior learning coming into Douglas, current applicants and students with post-secondary courses completed within the past seven years may submit a Transfer Credit Request. Official transcripts must arrive within two weeks; in-progress courses are not evaluated, detailed outlines may be required, and documents not in English need official translations. Outline reviews can take one to three months or longer during peak periods.
