Ontario universities you can apply to with a 70% average

For Fall 2027, with a 70% average, you can meet published minimums for Trent's regular arts, business and biology routes, Lakehead's English and business programs, and Algoma's psychology and business degrees. Lakehead also publishes a 70% general minimum on its Civil Engineering page. You still need each program's required courses.

Work out which marks belong in your average

Your school report average might not be the figure an admissions office uses. Begin with the exact degree. Trent asks for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, called the OSSD, and six Grade 12 U or M courses. U means university preparation and M means university or college preparation. Its general requirements include program prerequisites and at least 60% in ENG4U, Grade 12 university English.

Write each required course beside your current mark. Then check the university's calculation rule. Lakehead's program pages say top six Grade 12 U or M courses and separately require the program subjects. Keep both statements on your checklist. Don't omit a needed science or count a course at the wrong level just to reach 70%.

Treat the result as an eligibility check. A published minimum tells you where consideration can begin. It doesn't show that every person at that mark received an offer. Lakehead warns that demand can require higher averages. Read the Ontario admission averages overview if you're comparing a minimum with a forecast or an entering-class average. Those labels aren't interchangeable.

Use arts requirements to choose a real subject match

Trent's Honours Arts minimum is 70%. Lakehead publishes the same general minimum on its English degree page, with ENG4U as the Ontario program prerequisite. These are useful starting points if you want to read closely and write about ideas. Compare the actual subjects you can take. A broad arts entry and a named English degree won't give you the same course plan.

Algoma's Ontario table lists Psychology at 70%. The BA needs ENG4U, while the BSc also needs a U/M Math and two U/M Sciences. That distinction can change which degree fits your completed courses. Algoma lists Sault Ste. Marie and Brampton for Psychology. Check where your intended degree route is offered before you decide where you'll live.

You can also research Algoma's English or History degrees, which list a 65% minimum and ENG4U. That lower published floor doesn't make an offer certain. It does give you another official program rule to examine. Use the Algoma program chapter and Lakehead university hub to compare the subjects with your interests.

Business options have different maths requirements

You don't need one universal business course set. Trent's regular Business Administration minimum is 70%, with ENG4U at least 60% and a 4U Math. Its Durham page gives a 70-75% estimated admission range for the regular BBA. Keep that range attached to Durham and keep the word estimated. The central minimum and campus range describe different measures.

Lakehead's business page pairs its 70% general minimum with ENG4U and one of Advanced Functions, Calculus and Vectors, or Data Management. Algoma's Business Administration table asks for ENG4U and two U/M Maths at a 70% minimum. It recommends Data Management. If you have only one eligible math course, those two published subject sets lead to different checks.

Look at the degree's required first-year courses before choosing it. Ask yourself if you want accounting and business analysis to be part of your studies. Don't select a business degree only because its entry number matches yours. Start with Trent's program chapter, then compare Lakehead's named major and campus. Confirm whether your application choice is regular or co-op.

A 70% science average still needs the right subjects

At Trent, Biology requires SBI4U and SCH4U alongside English. Those are Grade 12 university Biology and Chemistry. The published overall minimum is 70%, and a 4U Math is recommended. Trent Chemistry uses a different set: Chemistry and either Advanced Functions or Calculus and Vectors. You can't use the Biology list as a substitute for the Chemistry requirements.

Trent's Biomedical Science minimum is 75% and its required subject list is longer. A Biology offer doesn't mean you've entered Biomedical Science. Compare the program names in full. If you're interested in laboratory work, read the courses in the degree you can actually apply to. Don't assume that similar names give you an automatic route between programs.

Algoma Environmental Science lists a 65% minimum, ENG4U, MHF4U and two U/M Sciences. Its Biology degree instead lists 75%. These rules show why a university-wide science label is too broad. Use Algoma's admissions chapter to keep each program separate. If you're missing a prerequisite, ask admissions about an approved way to complete it before relying on that choice.

Read the Engineering floor without promising an outcome

Lakehead's Civil Engineering page displays a 70% general Ontario minimum. Its Civil row requires ENG4U, Advanced Functions at least 60%, Chemistry and Physics. Calculus and Vectors is strongly recommended. You still need the OSSD and six eligible Grade 12 courses. The page also says higher averages may be needed where demand is greater than available spaces.

That 70% applies to one named Bachelor of Engineering option. Don't assume every Engineering degree has the same threshold. Ontario Tech's Comprehensive Engineering page, for example, gives a Mid-70s expected cutoff. Its separate 70% figure applies to the combined prerequisite math and science average. It isn't an overall 70% entry cutoff.

Use the Lakehead Engineering requirements guide for the full route. Lakehead also lists a Common Year in Applied Science with another subject set. Don't quietly replace direct Civil admission with that separate route. Ask the university which entry option fits your record and what it leads to. Save the written answer with the exact program you plan to select.

Co-op can change the number you need to check

A work placement option can have its own entry requirements. Trent's central Ontario table gives regular BBA a 70% minimum and co-op an 80% minimum. The Durham campus table gives BBA co-op an estimated range of 87-92%. These aren't the same label. Neither number lets you describe 70% regular entry as 70% direct co-op entry.

Algoma provides a different example. Its Computer Science co-op row lists a 70% minimum at Sault Ste. Marie. It requires ENG4U, MHF4U and another U/M Math. The regular Computer Science row has a 65% minimum with different course sets for its degree routes. Copy the co-op row if that's your intended application. Don't borrow a regular requirement from the line above.

Compare the course load and campus as well as the mark. A program with co-op in its name still needs its own eligibility check. Use the Trent university hub to find the relevant campus information. If your grade is below a published direct-entry co-op minimum, ask about the regular degree on its own terms. Don't base your choice on an unconfirmed later transfer.

Build your Fall 2027 plan from what each page says

Most pages don't print an entry year beside their averages. They're current planning guidance, not confirmed Fall 2027 cutoffs. Revisit each official program page before submitting your choices and read any conditions in your own offer when it arrives.

If your studies are still in progress, Trent says an offer is conditional on meeting the program's minimum requirements. Keep the final conditions where you can find them. An early offer doesn't remove the need to finish a required subject or reach the stated final average. If a course plan changes, contact admissions before assuming that another subject will satisfy the same condition.

Make a short list you would be willing to finish. For each choice, record the exact degree and campus. Add its required subjects and grade label. If your mark changes, you'll know which rule to check again. Ask admissions a precise question if the calculation or a course is unclear. Include the program name and course code so the answer addresses your situation.

Compare what you can afford before you accept a place. Start with Trent residences or Lakehead residences if you'd need to move. Read Lakehead financial aid for funding options to investigate. Keep admission and funding decisions separate. An eligible course set won't tell you the amount of aid you'll receive.
