Book accessibility services early

Student Wellness and Accessibility has staff at all three campuses. If you start in September, book your intake appointment in early May. A learning disability needs a psycho-educational assessment from the last 5 years or done as an adult. Other conditions use a Functional Assessment Form from a regulated health practitioner. An IEP alone doesn't confirm a disability, but you don't have to share a diagnosis to get accommodations.

Accommodations, testing and wellness

Registered students can use assistive technology support, accessible test centres and alternative-format textbooks. Interim accommodations are possible while you wait for documentation. The same office offers counselling, health services and crisis and after-hours support, open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Varsity, intramurals and fitness

The St. Lawrence Surge play men's and women's basketball, soccer, rugby and volleyball in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association. Co-ed intramurals run each semester. Kingston's Student Health and Athletic Centre has more than 40 cardio machines. Full-time Kingston and Brockville students can use local YMCA locations with their student card at no extra cost.

Libraries and study space

The libraries give 24/7 online access to more than one million items, including e-books, newspapers and streaming video. Each campus library has quiet study areas and group rooms, which you book online in advance.

Indigenous student support

Each campus has a Waasaabiidaasamose Indigenous Centre, and Indigenous Student Advisors support students throughout their studies. Any self-identified Indigenous student can use these services without proof of ancestry. Indigenous students can also apply for SLC Indigenous bursaries.

Decision checklist

  • Book an accessibility intake by early May.
  • Gather documentation before classes start.
  • Use your student card for YMCA access.
