Arrange support through the correct service

Courtenay, British Columbia

Accessible learning and counselling have separate intake, documentation, appointment and service-scope rules across NIC campuses.

Arrange academic access

Accessible Learning Services supports disability-related academic access. Students begin an intake and provide current documentation where available; arrangements depend on functional impacts and are developed with an access-services adviser.

Because accommodations can take time, contact the department before classes and exams. Campus contacts differ for Campbell River, Comox Valley and Port Alberni, and the service's academic arrangements do not replace program admission requirements.

Use counselling within its scope

NIC describes counselling for registered students as free, professional and confidential support for personal, career and educational concerns. Students choose the current booking route and appointment format rather than assuming immediate or continuous clinical care.

Counselling pages also direct urgent or crisis needs to appropriate emergency and crisis resources. A college appointment is a bounded support route, not a substitute for emergency services or a promise of a specific treatment outcome.

Decision checklist

  • Start accessible-learning intake early.
  • Provide the documentation requested for an arrangement.
  • Use emergency or crisis resources for urgent needs.
