Confirm eligibility and priority

Housing is open to students in eligible programs who are at least 17 or have graduated high school and study full time or part time, in person or digitally. Apprenticeship, practicum, internship, co-op and program research placements can qualify.

Priority goes to Indigenous students, current and former youth in care, and students in full-time study or at least nine academic credits. Approved accessible-learning accommodations can make fewer than nine credits full time; ElderCollege, Joy of Lifelong Learning and Youth Academy are excluded.

Apply and budget in sequence

Applicants first apply to NIC, obtain an NIC email, apply through the housing portal and pay a non-refundable $50 fee. They then monitor NIC email for a room offer; an application and fee are not confirmation of a particular unit.

Monthly figures range from $980 per person for a quad to $2,200 for a family unit, while actual rent is the nightly rate multiplied by the month’s nights. NIC’s 30-day labels do not reconcile for Nano, Quad or Family, so confirm the priced room offer before budgeting. Water, electricity, heat, Wi-Fi and parking are included; laundry is pay per load.

Fall 2026 runs September 7 to December 19 with full-term rent due August 1. Winter 2027 runs January 4 to April 24 and is due December 1; Spring runs May 2 to August 14 and is due April 1. Monthly payment follows NIC’s instalment schedule and adds an administration fee with the first month; NIC does not publish its amount on this page.
