After acceptance, the general page instructs students to watch their MyMHC email. It instructs them to pay a $250 registration deposit to hold the program place. They register through the portal or Registration Office. The application fee and registration deposit serve different purposes. An applicant should retain the offer and payment receipts. They should check for conditions and follow the deadline in their correspondence. They should not assume that paying the application fee reserves a seat.

International applicants must be at least 18 by the program start date. The international page lists a $125 application fee due with the ApplyAlberta application. It states that it is non-refundable for any reason. It also identifies several Humanities, University Transfer and related routes. These routes require an interview and paper application through International Education. They do not use the ordinary online route. International capacity can be competitive. This happens when qualified applications exceed the seats allocated to a program.

Admission criteria vary by program and applicant history. High-school, mature and prior post-secondary applicants should use the selected program's requirements; some programs accept an Accuplacer placement assessment for some or all criteria. International applicants also need the College and government requirements that apply to their status. A letter of acceptance is an academic decision, while study-permit authorization is separate. Check intake availability and current deadlines before paying because open and closed program lists can change.

Information Technology illustrates a career diploma route. Its page offers Network and Systems Administration and Software and Internet Development majors. It also offers an optional IT Co-op program. That program admits students at the end of first term based on academic standing. The co-op adds one 490-hour work term after first year. Enrolment in ITEC 291 follows successful obtainment of co-op employment. Suitable employment is ultimately the student’s responsibility. IT faculty do provide support. Prior-learning assessment may be possible for extensive work experience.

University Transfer: Science has a different purpose. MHC describes it as a year of science courses intended to prepare for transfer to another institution. Students are encouraged to choose their intended university and degree early and plan courses with an MHC Academic Advisor. The page tells students to choose the intended university and program, then consult an MHC Academic Advisor for appropriate course planning. Verify that plan for the named destination before registering rather than assuming every science course serves every intended degree.

Practical and clinical requirements also change the comparison. The Kinesiology diploma requires an unpaid practicum. You must complete the first three semesters satisfactorily first. A placement supervisor may require a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. Current First Aid plus CPR-C is required. Students pay related fees. This example shows why program planning must include progression rules, placement documents, time and costs. It must include these alongside tuition and course titles.

MHC describes residence units as shared by four students, with a kitchen, living room, dining space and two bathrooms. Its residence hub covers housing at both Medicine Hat and Brooks and links the applicable rental agreement and campus handbooks. Room features, policies and location should therefore be matched to the actual offer rather than inferred from a general photo or description. Review move-in dates, furnishings, utilities, conduct rules, cancellation terms and academic-break access in the current documents.

The full-time schedule separates regular, large and renovated bedrooms and lists parking and the mandatory Residence Life fee independently. Internet is included. Match the room description and semester period in an actual offer, then add food and other personal living costs that the table does not cover.

Apprenticeship housing uses weekly room and parking periods rather than the full-time semester schedule. Internet and utilities are included. Short stays carry separate tax and levy conditions, so normalize the contract period and add food, laundry, transportation, deposits and insurance before comparing residence with a private rental.

University Transfer–Education Year 1 is a useful domestic example. The official row shows each charge before its two totals. Another program, year, course load or health-plan situation can differ a lot. Use this comparison only for the named 2026–27 row. Check the student account before you pay.

Financial Aid says many support applications take six to eight weeks. Students should plan early. Loan funds arrive only after classes begin. So books and supplies need an interim plan. Students expecting late loan funding should contact the office about available options. The page also describes emergency funding for eligible students. It is for unexpected needs after other resources have been explored. Availability and an urgent need do not establish automatic approval.

Student awards use one online application to enter students for awards for which they are eligible. Scholarships are based on academic standing. Bursaries are based on need. Combined awards use both. The page says the application will open in March 2027 and that each donor's criteria differ. It also describes a Grassroots Bursary tuition credit of up to $500 for eligible financially needy students in qualifying non-credit study. Read the live application criteria instead of relying on the maximum or opening month alone.

Academic planning is especially important for transfer and sequenced programs. The program directory directs students with questions about courses, admission grades and pathways to Academic Advising. The 2026–27 planning guides give an intended course sequence, but the course catalogue warns that offerings vary by term, program requirements, capacity and enrolment. Review the plan before registration and again if a required course, campus or delivery mode changes.

Financial wellness intersects with daily life. Financial Aid is located on the main floor of Centre Core beside the Employment and Career Centre and publishes weekday hours, appointment help, loans, awards and emergency funding. Residence, food, transportation, books, health coverage and placement checks can all sit outside base tuition. Bring the current cost estimate and real housing terms to funding discussions so the plan reflects the student's actual program and responsibilities.

Campus identity matters because MHC operates Medicine Hat and Brooks locations. The program finder has a campus filter, residence materials distinguish the campuses, and Brooks publishes its own contact and advising details. Confirm where classes, labs, practicum preparation and the services you expect to use are located. A service listed institution-wide may have a different appointment method or travel requirement for a Brooks, online or distance learner.

Kinesiology provides a concrete boundary. Its practicum is unpaid and starts only after satisfactory completion of all courses and requirements from the first three semesters. A placement may require a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. First Aid plus CPR-C is required, and the student pays associated fees. Those conditions affect schedule and budget. However, they do not describe every MHC placement. They do not imply that every WIL experience is unpaid.

As of April 1, 2026, IRCC says eligible post-secondary international students do not need a separate co-op work permit. This applies to a required student work placement. Eligibility includes full-time study at a post-secondary DLI. It also includes a valid study permit with the required work condition. It includes a DLI letter confirming the required placement. And it includes placements totalling no more than 50% of the program. MHC tells affected applicants to upload its co-op support letter with the study-permit application. Some public-health placements require an immigration medical exam. The same IRCC page keeps older lower-page instructions about co-op permits. So students should use its dated April 2026 change notice and current eligibility section. Seek IRCC guidance if your documents conflict.
