How adviser matching works

Four questions, then up to three advisers who fit what you told us.

Who it's for

Students from Grade 9 to a gap year, and parents helping them. If you're choosing between offers, the match looks first for advisers at the schools you're comparing, so you can ask someone who studies there now.

The four questions

We ask where you are (from Grade 9 to a gap year), the help you want, the schools you're aiming for and the programs you're interested in. Every answer is a choice from a list. If your school or program isn't listed, choose Other and type it in.

How we match you

We compare your answers with each adviser's university, program and listed specialties. A shared school counts most, then a shared program, then the help you asked for. You see up to three advisers. Our advisers are verified current university students, so the match is about real, recent experience at the schools you care about.

After you see your matches

Without an account, you see how many advisers fit. With a free account you see who they are and can request one. Your first consultation is free. After that, we agree the help you need and the cost with you before anything starts. See advising services for what an adviser can help with.

If no adviser fits yet, we'll say so honestly. You can still ask for help through the contact page and we'll tell you whether a verified adviser is available.

Your answers and privacy

Your answers are used to find matches. Anything you type in Other is never sent to analytics, and neither are adviser names. Read our privacy policy for the details.

Getting a better match

Pick every school you're seriously considering, not only your first choice. More schools give us more chances to find an adviser who studies at one of them. If you know your program, pick it too, because a shared program counts almost as much as a shared school.
